Well, of course they'd say that about their next release. However, since this is
A) an Essential Chronology
B) Up to date
C) Written by Dan Wallace
I have every reason to believe that they are absolutely correct.

 

The original EC was pure awesomeness, and I can't wait for the new edition.

And the 5 Handmaidens are impossible to beat in the training spar as a whimpy lightsider!

[face_cry] But I loved the original Planets! I was really looking forward to a new one. Ah well, this new EG looks great, it's just the damn things get out of date too fast. :p

 

I hope they edit out the glitches they had in the last one, by dumping the Infinities stuff they accidently put in.

 

We didn't even have Infinities back then.

 

Yeah we did. For example, they included the Dark Woman's death from a Tales comic in there. However, I liked that story.
So as long as Dan keeps putting Infinities stories in that I approve of, it's ok by me

 

You're thinking of the New Essential Guide to Characters.

The EC was written before the Dark Woman was ever written.

 

I wonder how they'll fix the CW3/LoE screw up ...

 

I'm soooo buying this!
I promised myself that I'd buy the first guide or dictionary or whatever that had the full story of Anakin becoming Vader in it. Before it's all been Anakin the footnote with lot's of Vader. The fall being comprised of 'Then the Emperor seduced Anakin into becomming Vader'. Plenty boring, but what could they do?
The fact that it's a new EC just sweetens the deal.
I loved the first one

 

Tales is only kind-of Infinities. Some of it clearly is, some of it looks pretty clearly not, and some of it is annoyingly gray area.

That said, anything that gets referenced from it isn't Infinities anymore, so the facts of the Dark Woman's death and Mara's mission that included General Madine, for example, are all now canon.

 

New update at the Official Site about the NEC. They de-Hyperspaced those some pictures for all to see.

And that cover still looks awful.

 

well, other then that, this looks really good. It may be the first Essential Guide that I buy

The choice whether to buy hardcover or not is not challenging.

 

Those pictures look like crap.

In spite of myself, though, and of KJAs unfortunate input, I'm looking foreward to this. I'll have to pick it up for my younger brother.

 

IIRC, Anderson's "input" is little more than passages lifted from the original.

Although, I gotta admit, my desire to get this has dropped significantly. Not only because of the fact that they're doing both a hard and softcover version (like I didn't have enough money problems), but the artwork doesn't look that inspiring.

 

Come now good TIE. The artwork is a lot better than the ones in the old one. At least these have colour in them.

 

But at least they looked like people. I mean, who the hell are these people?

Had a feeling that was Callista. As for the Daragons...well, they look different than they did in the original book and the NEGTC.
