Ok, looking for a second cpu for one of our server. It's a PenIII 500. Price: $500 from Dell. There are no listings for it on pricewatch.com. Now, on pricewatch, you can buy a PenIII 667 XEON for $65. Something just isn't right.

 

Yeah, if you are buy from Dell so that you can get an identical stepping processor, I would recommend just buying two new identical processors for cheap online. That's what I did

 

But..according to Intel, you shouldn't have to do that with the new cpus.

 

Yeah, but they will ultimately drop down to the lowest speet of the two CPUs, so it's best to just get two new ones.
