Creating Lightning for a movie?

    Hello, I was wondering if I could take lightning that I made in maya and some how overlay it on a avi movie that I recorded so that it looks like a person in the movie is force lightning something..

    Do you have After Effects or any other compositing software? This is really simple task, the difficulty is getting the lightning to look good, not getting the lightning into the movie.
