    ODI Tri-Series

So, New Zealand, our trans-tasman enemies and our much derided motherland are locked into gladiatorial warfare for the next month. England, fresh from a 5-0 Ashes pasting and 20-20 hiding along with New Zealand fresh from their 2nd lowest ODI score in history (and the biggest losing margin ever) take on the Australian team. Why couldn't NZ and England have played first up? Both teams face Aussie before we get to face each other.

On the bright side, Aussie don't have McGrath and at least nobody on the England or New Zealand team has ever stooped to this new low.

So - a month of sledging, pain, joy and all round bad-sportsmanship. And that's just in this thread!

Bring. It. On. (but not too hard, eh Australia?)

    lol @ Lee

Australia v New Zealand final looks likely at this stage. we need Vettori and Bond to fire to have a chance. England are terrible at ODI's, i really can't see them sustaining any kind of challenge.

Uh, McGrath didn't retire from ODIs. He's playing on until the World Cup. Unless there's something saying he's not playing the Tri Series? I may have missed it.

Can't wait for Australia Day :)

Damn, I thought that may be the case but couldn't be bothered researching it last night when I started the thread. Maybe he'll get injured? :p

Overcast, but no sign of rain.

I can't decide whether to go to this match tonight or the 20/20 final tommorrow.

So, as someone who understands Cricket very little, what the hell does ODI stand for?

One Day International. It's the short form, a one day contest, of a Test Match, which normally lasts a maximum of five days.

And JP, don't get my hopes up like that :p I want a contest this time, not a one sided slogging.

Tentative start by England, but they're doing OK so far. Hopefully after Vaughan and Strauss get their eye in they'll free the arms a bit.

So, I'm following a commentary of the Cricket match ongoing currently and I am semi-confused. Can some nice person here explain it to me? Maybe by PM?

The annoying thing is, the telecast doesn't start here till 2pm (perth time). Though I can get the replays on my phone if needs be, I hate being delayed for ODI's, but not the test matches.

Oooh Gilly! Dropped! And missed on 2nd attempt in the slips.

RealMadrid, are you listening on the internet?

    Text commentary here;

    http://content-nz.cricinfo.com/cbs/engine/match/249232.html

And RealMadrid, it's easier to understand if you can see what's going on, rather than just listening / reading. See if this helps any; Idiot's Guide to Cricket - it's the "One Day" areas that should be paid the most attention

    What does this mean?

    Andrew Strauss c Hayden b Bracken 12 (1-20)

Well, isn't this great? I can tell you that the score is 18 for 0 after 4.3 overs,

PM sent. Come back after you've read it :p

That score means 4 overs and 3 balls have been bowled, the batting side have scored 18 runs, and the 0 means nobody has got out yet. But it's out of date :p

    And that message means:
Andrew Strauss caught by Hayden, Bracken bowling at the time. He scored 12 runs, and the team score is now 1 wicket down for 20 runs scored.

42/1 off nearly 10 overs - pretty solid start from England.

Now Vaughan's out. Very bad for England, he was looking dangerous.

I'll try and find you an Aussie radio station online simulcast - that'll be a lot more entertaining!

For a Live Sport station, there's a heck of a lot of ads on that station. They bowled nearly a whole over before they went back to the game :p
