Malinga out of tomorrow's game against NZ.

    [image=http://media.apn.co.nz/webcontent/image/jpg/ACFTCA2_aqG0.jpg]

The often unplayable fast bowler with the round arm action will not be bamboozling the Black Caps at the Grenada National Stadium tomorrow (1.30am Friday NZT) after he failed to complete training today.

Scans on the tournament's equal leading wicket taker (15 at 14.26) revealed a grade two tear in a left ankle ligament yesterday. He tested the heavily strapped joint briefly today, but was well below optimum pace.

Always sad to see an impact player out through injury, but y'know... [face_whistling]

    You should remedy that. :D

    NZ vs Sri Lanka.

Boys, you've got your work cut out for you now. Great job by Styris (century!) but everybody else has fallen apart. From what I've read, Vaas was on his game today.

So off of your 50 overs, 219. Very chasable for Sri Lanka.

Now let's find out if Bond is on the ball today.

he's done okay, but hasn't taken wickets. 1/100. game over. our total was never enough. this is the problem about crusing the tournament playing nobody and then facing the best three right at the death.

South Africa will be the easiest opponent of the three. that's the one we want.

    Yes, disappointing batting effort. :(

    And very average fielding.

    Ah-ha...hahahaha

If I just said that Australia has already beaten Ireland before I've gone to bed - does that showcase the thrashing enough?

    :p

Australia should have reversed their batting order with that total. Give the bowlers a chance to practice :p

Yay! NZ books semifinal spot with 5 wicket win over South Africa.

Slow but sensible batting effort, except Oram's silly shot with 2 runs required.

So many matches in this tournament are being determined by pitch and toss. I hope the semis and final aren't.

    S. Africa looking a bit fragile. Don't say the English are going to sneak in!

Anyone for a "tournament so far" team?

    Hayden
    Gilchrist
    Ponting
    Kallis
    Gibbs
    Pietersen
    Styris
    Vettori
    Malinga
    Bond
    McGrath
    Murali

There's 12. One or 2 spinners depending on the pitch.

You can't put Gilchrist in, he has been up to **** all in the World Cup!

That's what I thought until I looked at the stats and found he'd scored more runs and at a higher average than McCullum, Boucher or Sangakkara. As a keeper he's at least as good as any of those. Who would you pick?

Jayasuriya should be somewhere in that team - probably for Pieterson or Ponting, but it's a tough call.

    I wondered about him. He's got 367 runs at 52, with 2 100's and 1 50. Ponting 345 at 69 with 1 100 and 2 50's. KP has 341 at 56, 1 100 and 3 50's. Jayasuriya provides another bowling option too.

I'd swap him for Pieterson. Still, tough call. I saw a ranking of the highest scorers and wicket-takers in the paper earlier, and I love how McGrath is #1 for the bowlers. :D

Bangladesh take on Ireland tonight. Hehe.

    134 for 7!
    Get in, Ireland!

    (I'm an Indian)

    My world cup 11:
    Hayden
    Smith
    Ponting
    Clarke
    Kallis
    Sangakarra
    Vaas
    Malinga
    Bond
    Muralitharan
    McGrath

Gilchrist has been better with the bat, but Sangakarra has been outstanding behind the stumps.
I know I've got 4 seamers in there.

5 if you count Kallis. Still, you can go to Clarke for a second spin option if necessary. Interesting line up.

Well done Ireland. Good to see each of the minnows come away with a super 8 win.
