I'm reaching here but maybe it's because Lucas can't write dialogue worth a damn?!

    Yeah, you're reaching allright.

There's nothing whatsoever wrong with that line.

People just spout the same old cliche complaints about Lucas
even when they make absolutely zero sense.

There were few lines that made me cringe.

During The Duel, Obi Wan jumps on the cliff. "Anakin! I have the highground!"

    That made me snigger.

First of all, you didn't even quote it right. It's "Anakin it's over. I have the high ground."

There's nothing cringe-inducing about the line. Obi-Wan is stating the truth, simply,
and accurately as a warning to Anakin.

Some of the people who criticize dialogue have no ear whatsoever for dialogue or writing.

Um, actually, it's "It's over, Anakin! I have the high ground!"

Yeah those who overly criticize the dialogue in the screenplay, let's see you write something better.

"Sith lords are our speciality" is not only cringe-inducing, it's also incorrect.

    it's also incorrect.

    Actually, it is correct.

Considering the Sith have been defeated, hiding and forced underground for what,
about a thousand years and there's only 2 of them at any given time, whereas the Jedi have a temple, and thousands in their ranks, and the support of the Republic, I think the Jedi are fair to say that Sith Lords are their specialty. The Jedi OWNED the Sith for centuries. The problem with the Sith is a new development, historically the Jedi have beat the Sith.

It's a valid and clever line and had great panache. And Ewan gave it a great delivery. While Obi-Wan got defeated by Dooku in AOTC, let's not forget he sliced and diced Darth Maul Beni-haha style in TPM.

Where to start? I know I cringed on over half of Padme's and Mace's lines - I believe a combination of subpar acting, directing and writing lead to those. Just as an FYI, while Matthew Stover keeps with GL's mandate to follow the movie, point-by-point, he does take enough artisic license in the Novel to correct alot of the worst dialogue sequences.

Just about everything Padme said in ROTS was cringe-inducing. Her only good line was "So this is how liberty falls. With thunderous applause." That line was great. But the ones about preparing the baby's room on Naboo...ohhh very bad.

This line in the Senate showed the "old" Padmé, the eloquent politician which I was rather fond of! She had such a strength in TPM and AOTC which clearly showed in that scene again.

I'm reaching here but maybe it's because Lucas can't write dialogue worth a damn?!

Lucas didn't write the dialogue in the movie.

Tom Stoppard did. He's never been known for writing cringe-inducing dialogue.
He's one of the most gifted and creative writers in the English language.
And he often works uncredited on major Hollywood features, such as Tim Burton's
SLEEPY HOLLOW. He also wrote the script for Steven Spielberg's EMPIRE OF THE SUN.
Stoppard is top-drawer talent, a script doctor.

If you have an ear for writing and writing styles and you compare the dialogue
in ROTS and other films Lucas wrote, it's obvious Lucas didn't write the dialogue for ROTS. It's written by someone who is SMOOTHER and more gifted at writing dialogue than Lucas. The perfect example is the Opera scene where Palpatine tells Anakin the story of Darth Plagueis.
No way Lucas wrote that scene. He told Stoppard what he wanted in it, and gave him the basics of what needed to be said. But he let Stoppard decide HOW it was to be said. And he did a beautiful job.

I think Stoppard wrote more than Lucas is letting on, but which scenes were all him we'll never know...with the exception of the Opera scene. There's no way in hell Lucas wrote that.

I also don't really like the "You're going down a path I can't follow". Using a "path" as an analogy to life is something fit for cliche-ridden high school graduation speeches.

here's my list of cringe-inducing lines, i call it the ROTS cringe top 10.

    1) Oh I see them...oh this is going to be easy.

    2) Good Anakin good!...kill him. Kill him now.

    3) Wait a minute, how did this happen? We're smarter than this!

    4) If you have warriors, now is the time.

    5) He is the traitor, aaah!

    6) I will do whatever you ask...GOOOOOOD!...just help me save Padme's life!

    7) Henceforth, you will be known as Darth...Vader.

    8) You're going to kill him aren't you?

    9) Don't make me kill you!

    10) Not if anything to say about it I have!

AND NOW FOR THE MOTHER OF ALL CORNY LINES:

"From my point of view the Jedi are evil!"

    HAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAA!!

Oh come on, I think 'NO!' can become the STar Wars Wassup. Look at the other films and how No was said-

Episode 1- Obi-wan's screaming of NOOOOOO!!!
    Episode 3- Vader's NOOOOO!!!
Episode 4- (after Obi-wan is struck down)Luke's meek NO!
    Episode 5- Luke's whiny NOOOO!!

Make a tape of those and make it like a Wassup moment. It'll be hilarious.

Are you Stoppard? Damn, it sounds like you are either Stoppard or Lucas or someone who is trying to impress one of them.

I'll admit that the dialogue for this movie was worlds better than the other two prequels. But that doesn't mean that every line was perfectly dealt and perfectly written.

There are plenty of cringe-inducy lines, and if you don't think so, then you are just fooling yourself.
