    He guested during the 7 Worlds Collide Neil Finn shows in Auckland in 2001 (along with Eddie Vedder & half of Radiohead). And he played guitar on (and I think co-wrote) one or two tracks on the most recent Crowded House album 'Time on Earth'.

    So, not a member of Crowded House, but a guest.

    No Vedder this time, but these will be brilliant shows, hope I can get tickets to at least one of them!

    Wow.

    Wow, wow, wow. Still buzzing from the most amazing concert I've been to in years, perhaps ever.

    I can't do a full setlist, but I will tell you 80% of the new songs written and recorded are uptempo. Fast, furious, fun. None of that midtempo ballad stuff like on the last CH album (and the last 2 Neil Finn albums).

    There are some slowies of course, like the amazing 'Murder ballad' written ad perfomed by Bic Runga and KT Tunstall (and KT's new husband playing his leg). Plus Bic's new 'country waltz'. And Phil Selway's beautiful song about his son and family life;

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXbsnQurkL4

    Here's a new one by Johnny Marr (possibly with words by Jeff Tweedy, written at Piha on Christmas Eve)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY1mqTGPuog

    Yeah, so they're not *all* 'uptempo' :p

    The show was about 3 hours long, with up to about 20 musicians rotating on and off stage. Liam Finn, Johnny Marr & Neil seemed to be on the most, but often in supporting roles, filling out the sound on Wilco numbers and supplying keys, guitar and bv's for the songs sung by KT, Don McGlashan, Lisa Germano.

    Some of the "old" songs I recall played were;

    Distant Sun (Neil)

    White Valiant (Don)

    Second Chance (Liam)

    Down on the Corner (Johnny)

    Fake Plastic Trees (Jeff Tweedy w/ Phil & Ed + others)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwkc0yuOYAA

    Bodysnatchers (Neil Finn w/ Phil & Ed & others)

    There is a Light that Never Goes Out - Neil & Johhny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxza_gXkTc4

    Four Seasons In One Day

    I Got You (Neil - Eddie Rayner on keys)

    She Will Have Her Way

    Weather With You

    Throw Your Arms Around Me (Neil, Jeff, Liam, Johnny)

    Don't Dream It's Over (acoustic - just Neil & the sound guy on hammond, can't recall his name)

    Something in the Air (everyone)

    Wilco played about 5 of their songs, stunning, but I'm presently unfamiliar with their names. This will be recified soon. Oh - "I'm a Wheel" was one of them. Brilliant.. Lisa Germano's electric violin really added to the sound on those countryesque numbers, though her own two songs were a little... odd. One about a monster in the basement, and one in the finale about the sun coming out to shine. Both sounded like they were written by a 9 year old, but everyone was having fun with them. Liam's theremin solo was the highlight of the Sun Shine song (whatever it was called).

    In fact Liam basically stole the show. He's absolutely mesmerising. The way he puts his soul and his body into everything he plays, be it guitar, drums, theramin, vocals or tambourine is spellbinding.

    The show was being recorded for DVD. Wheter a standalone of a CD/DVD bundle, I don't know. Maybe more will be coming soon on the 7 Worlds Collide Youtube channel:

    http://www.youtube.com/7worldscollide

    The youtube links above aren't all from last night, but should give an indication of the fun being had durinig the 3-night residency!

    Hope it's not 7 years until the next such gathering!

    Wish you were here,
    JP

    Oops, "Please Please Please" (youtubed above) is a Smiths song that Johnny sang last night, not the new one by Johhny & Jeff Tweedy.

    Free download of the new Crowded House single "Saturday Sun" here.

    Also, great rendition of Don't Dream It's Over using the Auckland Town Hall's pipe organ at their concert last week;

    Has it actually been confirmed? I know there are album remasters in the works, I thought each might have its own bonus disc.

    He's been leaving hints via Twitter that it is a box set. Though, I have read a little about re-issues too so perhaps he changed gear. I'd personally prefer the box set.

    Neil Finn is livestreaming rehearsing for his new album. Plus playing old favourites and answering skype questions from fans.

    Last week he was joined by Crowded House bassist Nick Seymour via skype (Nick's in Ireland) for a song (it was a hilarious trainwreck). This week his brother Tim will be a guest (in Neil's studio). It was a great set last week (the first single was recorded, and has been released already). This is week 2 of 4.

    I can't see it outlasting the tour, but who knows. Mike Campbell is obviously looking for a new band.

    Yeah, Campbell I can see as possibly being permanent. He has the guitar skills and the songwriting talent.

    Neil Finn, while perfectly suited to the role, will probably just be on board for the tour.

    If you look at his activities since the early 2000s, he's gone: solo to supergroup to Finn Brothers to reforming Crowded House starting a new band with his wife to touring with Paul Kelly back to solo to recording and touring an upcoming album with his son and now Fleetwood Mac.

    I see Neil as the type of guy who would think taking on a full time role in ANY band would be a step backwards. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he wakes up one morning and decides to start a band called Pet Sounds where his band members are assembled from strays at a local lost dog shelter.

    Interviewer: Neither you Mike, nor Neil, think of this as a temporary gig?

    Neil: not at all

    Hmmmm...same here.

    He'll definitely last the tour but Neil is definitely his own boss while also being creatively minded and very studio oriented.

    When's the last time Fleetwood Mac recorded an album? I can see him getting bored of the touring lifestyle on a scale this large, not to mention a potential clash of ego with Stevie.
