Books CRUCIBLE by Troy Denning: The Official Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

I'm referring to a "Mary Sue" scene in Star by Star in which the WYLD KNYGHTS


are the most awesome Jedi squadron ever, much better than Kyp's dozen (Denning hated Kyp, you see), and Kyp is all flabbergasted by how awesome they are.

 

Oh for kark's sake...

typos creating new characters? recasting creating new characters? adi gallia's sapient hat?

 

Kyp and the Barabels. It was the last straw.

I can't explain it. Reading about that scene with Kyp and the Barabels completely broke whatever string was still attaching me to the old EU. Now I'm just baffled and stuck repeating the word kark.

I have moments where I break down crying over the wasted potential of the post-NJO and the desecration of Jacen Solo.

 

Bring on the new stuff, because I am just so done with this.

Kablob is broken, now he is going to go re-read A New Dawn and revel in the reboot.

 

I will say this for Denning: at least he made his pet Jedi Master a female lizard alien instead of yet another white dude whose name begins with "K".

 

SERIOUSLY WHAT IS WITH THE NUMBER OF JEDI MASTER WHITE DUDES WHOSE NAME BEGINS WITH K?

Kyle Katarn, Kyp Durron, Kent Hammer, Kam Solusar, even Corran Horn counts.

This forum has gotten strange since the reboot.

 

Oh, and who can forget another of Star by Star's sins, the introduction of Alema Rar? Especially since he basically just killed off her sister and then replaced her with identical twin Alema for some reason, I guess because he liked Numa's concept but didn't think her personality was slutty enough.

 

Star by Star was originally going to kill off Kyle Katarn in the prologue, and Kyp Durron at some point because Denning just didn't like him. Killing Kyp was forbidden, and Kyle was saved because LucasArts had first dibs.

i dont get it. Star By Star was awesome. yes it was heartbreaking, but awesome. I liked Tatooine Ghost as well, except for all the swoop parts

 

I don't like to make new threads.

 

Of course I find it heartbreaking, but probably not for the reasons you do.

 

I re-read the last two chapters of TUF over the past couple of mornings on the way to work. ARGH, MY FEELS. It's so shiny and hopeful. *squishes Kindle*

Due to being out of Star Wars novel reading for a very long time I'm looking forward to the new set of novels that are coming. However I have been thinking about going back and checking out some of the novels I've missed out on after the NJO story was finished. One of them is Crucible, especially with it seemingly being the last story of the old EU. Worth checking out without a lot of the back story leading up to it? Better to just check out a summary? Anything essential I should look at first before going into it?

 

It is literally the most terrible trainwreck of a book ever.

Don't bother with anything after NJO, because it's the most awful crap imaginable.

 

Read X-Wing Mercy Kill. That is all. And read the Legacy comics while you are at if you haven't read those.

Now I feel very old. Because I had those movies my entire childhood AND the EU my entire junior high and high school years. By the time I read Vector Prime... it was heartbreaking, man.
