Wings and Pistons had many fine years. You need to stop crying.

I'll try. Never liked basketball, but at least we had them, yep!

Football was always my favorite sport, the Lions my favorite team. But the Lions are soul crushing. They had Barry Sanders when I was growing up, who was by far the most exciting athlete I have ever had the pleasure to watch. But they won a total of one playoff game in his ten year career, in 1991, then got destroyed by Washington and haven't won any since. Barry basically retired because he was depressed.

The Tigers weren't very good while I was growing up, either. Then, in 2003, they lost 119 games.

To start off the 2007 season, the Wolverines lost to App State, and then got crushed by Oregon. Recovered nicely to beat Tebow's Gators in a bowl game. That felt good.

In 2008, the Wolverines went 3-9 for the first losing season since I've been alive, and the Lions went 0-16.

All the while, Detroit and Michigan were struggling terribly during the recession.

I really haven't been the same sports fan since. I just don't watch very much anymore. Too depressing.

But the Tigers have done so well, you say. Been to the WS twice (and lost both times).

The Pistons won it all in 2004.

The Lions had Megatron setting records, a worthy successor to Barry, and have been to the playoffs twice (leaving Megatron yet another great Lion to retire having never won a playoff game).

'Tis all for naught. That period around 2008 broke my heart beyond repair. I don't think I'll ever follow sports the same way again. Honestly, I don't want to.

I still remember an article Mitch Albom wrote for SI, "The Courage of Detroit". It was published January 12th, 2009. It captures the feeling well. I don't identify with all of it, but I see a lot of truth in it. I especially like the parts about modesty and humility, and why we stay.

    I didn't know you were from Detroit, CT-867-5309! :)

Also, I went on a 2 week liquid diet to see if my blood work numbers would improve, and they got worse. :(

I'm a Michigander as well, so I feel your pain my friends. At least we have Michigan, Michigan State and the other College Teams for football to watch. I'm primarily Michigan, but I live in Mount Pleasant, so I have been cheering for CMU.

Has anyone figured out if Mitch Albom is an alien or just has strange ears?

Organizing a wedding. 58 more days. I can't wait for this to be over.

My fiance and I addressed the save the dates and invitations the same way - to the people we WANT there. In my 36 years on this planet I know that proper etiquette dictates that if guest isn't listed or a person isn't listed they are NOT invited. So far we have had two people add a third person. In both cases it's a child. Children are not invited save for family. I want to say something but she does NOT so right now this is me venting because I can't do anything else about it.

guys i just checked something out to a guy with the incredibly improbable hyphenated last name "cyr-moore". this is more of a "good share" tangentially related to the cry more thread, but i thought you would all want to know anyway.

My nephew left the headlights on in the car and drained the battery, so now it won't start. And no one in my 10 member family can help me jump it. I called AAA, but they're taking forever. I will probably be late to dinner with my friends. :_|

My bf's cat took a satanically vile dump in his litter box, and 20 minutes later the apartment still stinks.
