Nah. Star Wars doesn't use profanity and it should stay that way. Part of the charm is SW harkening back to the pulp era of planetary romance. Flash Gordon, John Carter of Mars, Buck Rogers, Commando Cody, it's pretty cool to see that the spirit of those pulp characters and serial's live on in Star Wars.

Not everything needs to be grim and gritty.

Seems among all the fantasy stories these days, SW is the only one capable of still giving serious stories while still keeping them tolerably whimsical and tasteful

Gritty works for Dark Fantasy. Game of Thrones/Ice and Fire is based on the real life 14th century, and that was pretty much mud, blood, and outdoor plumbing. I don't mind it, there, mainly because in the real world a lot of it was worse. But Star Wars is a different thing with a different aesthetic. By the same token (since i brought up Flash Gordon, John Carter of Mars, Buck Rogers, and Commando Cody), Robert E. Howard's pulp stories from the early to mid 1930's were pretty grim and gritty. Including, obviously, Conan of Cimmeria but also Solomon Kane, Kull of Atlantis, and especially Bran Mak Morn. That stuff works as well, but that whole pessimistic style of writing would not fit Star Wars at all. Star Wars is, at it's heart, pretty optimistic. Dark Fantasy is just that, dark. Star Wars can go dark, but at the end of the day it isn't.

I wouldn't be surprised if we heard an s-word or a b-word in the film. I definitely see JJ Abrams doing that.

Don't believe so, but it appears that the notes on the script are full of them

If any, I think they are on the same level as in the OT ("damn", "hell" even if the latter wasn't used as a curse).

Leia's political advisor is Malcolm Tucker. That's how much cursing there will be in this movie.

I'll be dissapointed if there's any swearing in any of these movies. Never needed it before so there's no need for it now.

No Earth bound curses in SW. If I ever hear one I will be very disappointed. That will take me right out of the movie.

Bantha Fodder, Blast!, Kark, Stang, Nerf Herder and Oh Sucking Void! (comics) work just fine for me.

That's the one that came to mind lol.

I've always liked barve (or barv?).

Stang was always kinda weird to me. Kriffing is okay, but I think it would sound weird on-screen. Battlestar Gallactica found a niche with Frack, which worked in that universe, I guess.

    Hell

    1. "Well he better have those droids in the south range by mid day, or there'll be hell to pay" -Owen
    2. "Then I'll see you in Hell!!" - Han

    Damn
    1. "He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some 'damned fool idealist crusade', like your father did" - Obi-Wan, quoting Owen
    2. "Damned fool, I knew you were gonna say that." - Han

By the pattern I'm seeing, I wonder which character would end up cursing in the ST...hmmmmmmm...

(By the way, I can't think of the third instance of "damn") Anyone know?
