Today is the 61st anniversary of "Operation Overlord" on the Normandy beaches, or "D-Day". Please take a moment to remember the Allied forces that jumped from C-47's over St. Marie Elglise & Peagus Bridge, and waded ashore from landing craft onto beaches named Sword, Gold, Juno, Omaha & Utah 61 years ago this morning.

Thank you to all of the veteran's from "the greatest generation".

    Valor, Fidelity, and Sacrifice

    Wow!

There's quite a difference in reaction to yesterday between The United States of America and Great Britain.

    They haven't forgotten!

Not a peep from the USA. How sad.

    awww, that's too bad. :(

I was talking to my male residents about D-Day. They are very proud to have been a part and I am so grateful to them and all the other people in our allied countries who put an end to WWII. :) I think we could learn a thing or two from the greatest generation.

I need not say, I sure as hell haven't forgotten the Greatest Generation.

I was just away from the boards, and I certainly remember what happened 61 years ago.

I'm horrible with dates (seriously, I don't even remember my own father's birthday) so I forgot when D-Day is, but I'll never forget what D-Day is.

Never have Americans worked so closely and sacrificed so much to battle such an ultimate evil. That generation should always be remembered.

    The true British Bulldog
There are many quotes by him here - http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/w/winston_churchill.html

It takes a brave soul to face an enemy with the intent and power to destroy you, your family and everything you believe in. The men who fought in WW1, WW2, and any other war where people's freedom was at risk were the bravest of the brave. I don't think there will ever be people quite like them again.

And for as long as we both seek democracy and freedom for all our people, I hope the US and the UK stay strong friends. Through thick and thin. There will never be the same friendship between any other two countries. For all our differences, we are very much the same. And I think the rest of the world does get jealous of that lol.

    Well said, Tim.

IMHO, Great Britain is still our greatest FRIEND. We have plenty of allies but the US & GB have worked together, shed tears together, bled together and died together.
