That was quite a scare, but I'm glad things worked out well.
That must have been very frightening for all of the Skywalkers. I am glad too that baby teeth that were already loose came off.
Did I catch a subtle reference to Star Trek?
Thanks for updating!
Aww... Poor Ben, thinking they love Beru more than him. And that whole situation had to be really scary for him.
Ben was so cute with his apology, but I'm sure after a week of being grounded he probably won't feel the same way.
How Cuuuute. I've seen a couple other authors able go back into their fics and just rewrite the fic themselves. That seems to fix the coding, cause the word count doesn't affect new posts, just old ones.
Awww, I missed little Beru! Very glad to have these family viggies back. Poor Beru and Ben. That was a rough night for both of them! (And one which Beru will be holding over her brother's head for a long time, methinks).
I’m going to try a new thing for Dancing Inside. If you reply, you get a tag, that’s how you know a new post is up.
@Jade_eyes : Thanks. This kinda showed how ‘normal’ L/M can be
@Jedi_Lover : In my universe, L/M are good parents (*grumbles something about stupid DNT*). My CP never earned me any sympathy from my siblings. My sister once gave me a black eye and my brothers and I are always fighting. The other day I was in my wheelchair, he came up behind me to attack me and I managed to flip him. I then proceeded to run him over. Hey… that gives me a plot bunny!
@Hazel : I’m mean, aren’t I?
@Lady_Misty : Star Trek? Possibly, I wrote this long ago, so I can’t remember.
@mavjade : Being grounded changes EVERYTHING.
@CurtisZidaneZiraa: I could go back and edit it, but once the truncating problem is fixed, it will automatically go back to what is stored in the archives, so basically, if I do it, I may have to do it twice, once to fix the truncating problem, then when the boards restores all posts, to fix the weird symbols0 that I have going on.
@ginchy : I missed little Beru too! And I foresee blackmail in Ben’s future!

Luke crept back into the family’s apartment in the early morning, trying not to wake anyone. He had been gone on a mission, but he was back two days early. He wanted to surprise Mara with the fact that he was back for Liberation Day – the day that marked the end of the Emperor’s natural life. It also marked the death of Luke’s father, so he always preferred to spend it with family. It was a happy holiday, so Luke did his best to look at it that way.
As he searched for Mara’s presence, he found her awake and in Beru’s nursery. He walked down the hall and palmed open the door to see her in a blue nightgown and rocking their sleeping one-year-old in her pink pajamas and fuzzy white slippers. Although he had only been gone for five days, Luke swore his little girl visibly grew in that time.
Mara smiled when she looked up at him. “You’re home early.”
“Yeah, talks with the Neimoidians went better than I predicted.” He walked into the room to kiss his wife and get a better look at Beru. “Did she wake you up? I can take her if you want to go back to bed,” he offered.
“No. She actually slept through the night. It was me that woke up early. I couldn’t go back to sleep so I flipped on the Holonews. They were doing a report on what has improved in the galaxy since the first Liberation Day. One thing they listed was the treatment of those with disabilities. I just thought about all the experiments and the extermination policy on humans who were quote: ‘different.’ I thought about Beru and how she wouldn’t have stood a chance in the Empire. I just had to hold her,” Mara explained.
Luke nodded and bent down to kiss his daughter’s cheek. “Why don’t we bring her to our room so I can hold you and her?”
Mara stood up and smiled. “I’d like that.”
Sweet moment. Yes, I think that's a great way to handle tagging--less confusion about who's around, who's just lurking, etc.
Thanks, Bri, for answering my confusion about if I edit stuff that's truncated now I'd just have to do it later again so I'll just wait until the posts are restored. It's hard though
So sweet. Mara and Luke should have had more than one kid in the profics, but I guess with the war going on that would be rough.
Very sweet and a very sobering realization about little Beru's possible fate if she had been born earlier. I love the three Skywalkers heading off to snuggle together.
That was very sweet indeed!
You are very evil, Bri. But we love you anyway.
Good point. Can't always tell with these things. Patience it is.
Squee and lovey as always. I adore these one-shots. Any chance of all your fics being posted on your LJ as well, or are you getting as annoyed with that as other people are these days?
@Jedi_Lover I think they should have had atleast one more kid. And their age should be no excuse. Tendra was like 55 when she had Lando Jr.
@ginchy Thanks. I think those thee snuggle a lot.
@Hazel LOL! I think you've pretty much summed up how people feel about me in one sentence
@CurtisZidaneZiraa Thanks. I've kinda given up LJ now that these boards are back.

“Farmboy?” Mara called as she tapped the screen on her datapad to read the next page of her novel. “Are you coming to bed?’ She was already in bed, wearing a white nightgown.
“Yup,” he answered as he came out of their in-suite ‘fresher wearing plaid pajama pants and nothing else. “Just let me check on the kids.” He left their room and walked down the hallway. He entered Ben’s room first.
The boy was sound-asleep but the left half of his body was hanging off his bed. Luke let out a low chuckle and gently repositioned the 12-year-old so he was actually in the bed. He kissed his son on the cheek before tucking him. He left Ben’s room and palmed opened Beru’s door.
He entered his daughter’s room and was surprised to find the girl asleep. Because she had issues relaxing her muscles, she often had problems falling asleep. He made sure all her pillows were positioned right so she would not be in pain in the morning. Luke kissed Beru’s cheek and left since Mara was waiting.
* * *
Luke and Mara woke to horrific screaming. They grabbed their lightsabers and ran to Beru’s room even before their brains processed the idea that they were now awake. They entered and thrust on the lights.
The scene nearly broke their hearts. Beru was still asleep in bed, thrashing like she was fighting for her life. Blankets and pillows were being thrown every which way. She was banging her fist against one of the rails of her bed so hard that the back of her hand was bleeding.
“Luke, don’t wake her,” Mara instructed as she grabbed a pillow to cushion the hand Beru was banging.
“What?!” Luke practically yelped in disbelief. He did his best to try to restrain their daughter without hurting her.
“I don’t think she is having a dream. You remember that huge vision I had after she was born? The one where Jacen went to the dark side?”
Luke shivered. He remembered alright.
“Well, I don’t think I had that vision, because I have never been one to have visions of the future, not before then and not after. I think Beru, as a baby, had that vision and somehow transferred it to Ben and me.”
He nodded, it made sense. “Okay.” He stroked Beru’s cheek and whispered to her. “It will be over soon Baby-Girl. I promise. It will all be over soon.”
“Mom? Dad?” Ben appeared in the doorway. “What’s wrong?”
“Beru is having a vision,” Mara explained to her son.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” he asked.
“Can you get one of her special cups and fill it with water for when she wakes?”
Ben nodded then disappeared down the hall.
A few minutes later, Beru’s eyes snapped open with a final shriek. It frightened both parents, not just the action, but the fact that her eyes were pure white with no iris or pupil. Moments later the white haze dissipated and her normal blue eyes filled with tears.
Luke picked up the tiny shaking form and held her against his bare chest. He held her tight as he walked out into the living room and sat in his lounger. He began to rock her while Mara went to get supplies to bandage Beru’s hand. Ben gave his sister the cup full of water. Luke helped her hold it as Ben got the large grey blanket from the back of the couch and spread it over his sister.
Beru was starting to calm down until she noticed her hand was bleeding. She started to freak out.
Luke held her small head against his chest with his large hand and started to draw small circles with his thumb on her cheek.
“Calm down Baby-Girl. We are all here. We are all here for you.”
Mara came back and knelt at their feet. She took Beru’s tiny hand, applied bacta to it and wrapped it in gauze.
Luke helped her drink more and she was soon calming down again.
“Beru,” he started gently. “We think you had a vision of the future. Can you tell me what you saw?”
She sobbed once more. The Tenicji and Embassy Districts in Coronet city on Corellia are going to have massive earthquakes late in the morning today.
Luke and Mara were both surprised at her detail. “How do you know this?” her father asked.
Beru started to shake and cry once more.
“Okay, okay,” Luke hushed her. “You don’t have to tell. Your mom and I will contact the other masters and get them to help us contact the authorities on Coronet and we will have them evacuate everyone. But while we do that, can you snuggle with Ben in our bed?”
Beru nodded once. Luke stood up and walked back to the master bedroom with Beru in his arms. He laid her in the bed on his pillows. He briefly stopped Ben before the youth got in the large bed.
“Thank you for the help with your sister.” Luke embraced his son.
Ben gave his father a lopsided grin. “What are big brothers for?” With that he set Beru’s drink on his mother’s nightstand and got into the bed. He hugged his sister.
Beru waited a few minutes after her father left until she confided in her brother. I didn’t want to tell Daddy this because he’ll fuss over me if he knows, but I need to tell someone.
Her bottom lip quivered. I saw people die. I saw people dying in my vision. It was like I was there. I felt them die. Thousands of them. I was fighting for my life with them.
Ben held his little sister close and rubbed her back. “I know that must have been scary, but you need to know that isn’t going to happen. Mom and Dad are going to make sure it doesn’t happen.”
Beru nodded and eventually fell asleep in her big brother’s arms.

The next day, the Skywalker family was having a nice, peaceful family day with no lessons or work. Ben and Mara were playing a card game at the table while Luke and Beru snuggled on the couch – both were sound asleep despite Luke’s loud snoring. The holonews played in the background.
“We now return to the top story today,” the newsbeing, a male bothan with copper fur, stated. “The earthquakes in the Tenicji and Embassy Districts in Coronet city on Corellia have destroyed billions of credits in infrastructure yet no casualties have been reported. We are being told that Jedi Apprentice Beru Skywalker, daughter to the infamous Luke Skywalker, had vision of the earthquake last night which prompted the evacuation of the two districts.”
Mara looked over to the viewscreen to see an image of her daughter there.
The other newsbeing, a female human with brown hair and brown eyes, spoke up. “You can be a supporter of the Jedi or a critic of them, but there is no denying that the girl is a cutie.” Her counterpart nodded his head in agreement. “I wonder what Beru is doing now.”
Mara smirked as Luke snored rather loudly and Beru grunted in her sleep, almost as to tell him to ‘shut up’.
If the reporters only knew….
Wonderful viggie, and love the support Beru got from her brother and parents. Is there anything more off putting than snoring Kinda puts a damper on ... the mood and ambience -- Mara wearing ear plugs and all I'll just chalk it up to a momentary fluke and exhaustion -- right
Wait a second...did I miss something...why is Beru the daugher of the infamous Luke Skywalker? Did Luke go darkside again? Maybe Mara liked those black pleather pants and cape on him from Dark Empire.
It is nice that nobody got hurt. Go Beru!
Well at least it wasn't a night terror. I'd wake the whole house as a small child. My oldest sister quickly learned that if she wanted to sleep through the night she needed to keep either the nightlight or the florescent light on, the cassette tape needed to be turned over before I realized that it wasn't playing anymore and to now and then hold my hand.
But it is good that so many people were saved from death.
Luke and Mara might see it as a curse as time goes on..
No, I'm just a dummy and I don't know how to use words. Let's blame it on my brain, it has too much going on right now.
It was great that they could save all those pleople.
I adore Ben in this.
Scary dream, but it resulted in a lot of fluffy cuddling! It's true. No one can deny it: Beru is the cutest thing ever!
Book-Geek this is a fact although, of course, Daddy! Luke especially with a girl child is just over the top lovable (This is one opinion I know is unanimously held by all L/M specialists)
Poor Beru. She's got her grandfather's curse of visions. But at least she can affect goood change with hers. I love how supportive all the Skywalkers are and I loved the scene with just Beru and Ben. Excellent update, gal!
@Jedi_Lover: I’m not an English major. That is all I have to say about my fluke
@Lady_Misty: Luke and Mara are going to see it as both a gift and a curse
@Hazel: I love Ben in this too
@Book-Geek: D’aww! Thanks
@ginchy: Thanks. I agree
I Want Another One
Timeframe: During SNASAHM
Leia slowly rocked her two-week old niece as her husband sat beside her. Mara was currently taking a much needed relaxing bath and Luke was walking Ben to his class, so they had intrusted their precious daughter to her aunt and uncle.
Beru was having a moment. A really bad moment. She was just starting her breathing medication for the day and was screaming her displeasure for the entire planet to hear. Leia tried her best to hush Beru.
Han rolled his eyes. “Here, let me try,” he said, holding his arms out for the bundle of pink and purple blankets. Leia reluctantly passed Beru to him and leaned on his arm as he began lightly bouncing the cranky child.
“I miss this,” Leia sighed.
“I do too,” Han admitted.
Leia opened one of Beru’s tiny fists and let the girl grasp her aunt’s finger. This seemed to calm her down a bit. Han and Leia shared a smile.
“I want another one.” Two years ago, they had lost their youngest. Anakin had died barely a man, but to Leia, he had only been just a baby.
“I do too,” Han repeated. “But I think our time is done.”
Leia struggled to hold back tears. The realization hit her hard.
“Please don’t cry, Sweetheart,” he whispered, holding back tears of his own. “Or else I’ll start to cry and we’ll both end up looking like Beru here.”
Leia let out a light laugh. “We could always kidnap her.”
He chuckled. “We could, but I think Mara and Luke would kill us.”
“Have you seen those two lately? They are so tired, we could easily take them down.”
A grin grew across Han’s face. “And then we would be both Beru’s and Ben’s legal guardians.”
“It’s two for the price of one,” she exclaimed. Both began to laugh.
At that moment, Luke walked in the door, looking bagged even though it was only mid-morning. He slumped down on the armchair across from them. “What’s so funny?”
“We’re plotting your death,” Leia answered with a maniacal smile. “We want your children.”
AN: I want to thank you all for keeping up with this vignette series. This will probably be the second to last one, at least for a few months. I am writing an original novella and the main character is similar to Beru, so the plot bunnies and motivation have dropped off for this series significantly. Plus I am starting a diary in the new year so that will probably take up most of my fan fiction writing time.
Anyways. For my last vignette, I want to write a holiday vignette for my readers, so is there anything anyone would like to see in a Beru vignette? I will try to incorporate as many things as I can.
Nice H/L moment, very in character and wistful L/M mush is at the top of my list - natch but I also want mugs of cocoa with marshmallows since Luke likes the drink and Beru would probably eat the marshmallows out of the bag like I do Also, Ben wanting to act like he's too grown to want to spend time with his family but liking it anyway.
Sooo, H/L want to keep the Skycrawlers and kill their parents? Bri - you should be careful about waving there bunnies in front of other writers noses, someone could easily turn this into one evil crack!fic.
ROFL! I can only imagine the look on Luke's face as he slowly edges across the room and snatches Beru out of Han's arms at that, knowing full well that if Han and Leia are plotting it, chances are they will go through with it. "It's okay, Beru, Auntie Leia and Uncle Han won't really go to the Dark Side. Though, considering family history... No, they won't go Dark."
