The CR is great, I love the use of more orchestral sounds like the classic Bonds, and less on synths and stuff like the modern.

    Can't wait to get YKMN!

Is the YKMN track available on the iTunes UK store per chance??

Agree on the soundtrack; I didn't want Arnold to do it because thus far I haven't been impressed with his work, I see him as a DJ more then anything else, but he did a great job and glad he went for a more orchestral sound.

I will find out the unit price for the suitcase set, but I'm surprised by how small the profit margins are in general so it probably did cost a fair wack but they wanted to beat HMV to it :p

I may end up seeing the Prestige this weekend after all, but I do plan on another CR viewing soon :D

I'm not sure about YKMN, last I heard though it was on ITunes for purchase so good luck finding it!

I looked around online and think Virgin are still selling the Attache Case for around the £200 mark, so who knows what profits they're looking at getting? In store it will probably be something like £250.

Ohhh and I've still not managed to catch The Prestige yet, but my 4th Casino Royale screening will be on Sunday! Can't wait, I have to say!

I still have an old iTunes (due to having an old Mac OS) so can't access the iTunes store but will be getting me new iMac in the next month (or sooner :D :D) so it'll be the first thing I download from there. What an exciting life I lead :p

I'll sit it out until Dec 11th for the single, I've never been into I-Tunes and stuff, as I don't even have an MP3 player!

Make sure you catch the Prestige, definitely worth watching. Not a classic, but worth a watch. There's some great acting and a good story that's a little 'bleh' at the end IMO. The worst thing about the film is Christian Bale's accent. Just no!

Saw Casino Royale for the first time last night. Thought it was an alright film. Not really a Bond film though. I thought the action was well done, loved the running chase scene. I thought there was a lack of humour and Bond's one-liners were particularly weak. The plot was also a little over-complicated.
Perhaps my biggest greivance is the fact that Bond didn't get himself out of the chair scene, he had to be saved. Very un-Bond.
Things I liked: Bond breaking into M's house. Poker scene. Running chase

I will deffo try to catch The Prestige, looks my kind of mystery/thriller!

Glad you liked Casino Royale, but sorry about the quarms you found. I wont start putting my view across (as I didn't find fault), but nice to see other opinions.

I guess I liked the way Bond didn't use hidden gadgets or allies to get out of bad situations like the tortue sequence, I guess it felt more real and it was all down to Bond and his power to resist the torture and rile Le Chiffre until death, which I found very patriotic!

I was going into and reviewing the film as a Bond film, not a film. A lot of the the things that bothered me I wouldn't have noticed in a non-Bond film.

I saw it last night too (don't kill me Northerners, I promise I'll still see it with you and won't spoil it)

I noticed that it was very unlike all other Bond films, but I knew that they were going for a different style to these films, so I could accept it for what it was. A good, but not brilliant, Bond movie.

    UPDATE ON THE CR TAKINGS:

    UK Opening
Taking in an overall $82.8 million worldwide over the first weekend of release, Casino Royale was the 9th biggest all time UK opening day of £1.7 million as well as the biggest ever opening in the UK for a James Bond film. It beat the previous record holder, 2002?s Die Another Day (which took in £1.1 million), by 46%.

Casino Royale also made its way into the top three all time biggest UK weekend openings with $25,524,511 (about £13.49 million).

    US Opening
Casino Royale opened #1 in all of its 27 countries during the opening weekend, with the exception of the US, where it grossed $40,833,156, narrowly beaten by Happy Feet, which took in $41,533,432. This was most likely a result of a much shorter running time for the animated penguin film, as well as playing on some 3,800 screens compared to 3,434 for Casino Royale. However, James Bond opened #1 in the US on Friday with $14,741,135, beating Happy Feet, which took in $12,257,221, for that first day win.

According to Sony, Casino Royale?s opening audience was 55% male and 57% over the age of 25.

During the Thanksgiving weekend (week two), Casino Royale grossed $30,785,874, but was beaten once more by Happy Feet, which took in $37,038,046 - reports Box Office Mojo.

    International Openings
For the first weekend openings, Casino Royale set a record in India where it earned $3.2 million at 427 playdates, beating Spider-Man 2?s opening by 87% for biggest debut of a non-Indian film.

Sony Pictures Releasing India MD Uday Singh, said: ?Casino Royale has exceeded our expectations at the box-office. This unprecedented opening is the largest for a foreign film in India. Backed by a 360 degree marketing campaign, synergy partnerships from the Sony Group Companies and our brand alliances, we took this franchise to a wider audience base. Critical acclaim from the media further helped in building the buzz.?

Other box office totals include: Russia with $3.8 million (eighth largest opening for a non-Russian film), Greece with $1.34 million, Thailand with $1.1 million, Taiwan with $1 million, Singapore with $900,000, Malaysia with $800,000, Poland with $735,000 and the United Arab Emirates with $635,000.

For the second weekend openings, Casino Royale continued its success in 18 new countries, including: Germany with $12 million, France with $8.4 million, Spain with $4 million, Switzerland with $3 million, Denmark with $2.5 million, Sweden with $2.1 million, Netherlands with $1.8 million, Austria with $1.6 million, Norway with $1.5 million, and Belgium with $1.5 million.

Deadline Hollywood Daily reported that Casino Royale was #1 in 40 of the 50 countries during the second week.

    Estimates
Many box-office gurus are predicting that Daniel Craig?s debut as 007 will become the most successful Bond film yet, with estimates exceeding $575 million worldwide.

?Casino Royale is on course to pass 2002?s Die Another Day (which took in $432 million worldwide) to become the top-grossing Bond flick,? said Rory Bruer, head of distribution at Sony.

Updates to come in the future.

khabarakh23 it's funny that you didn't like Christian Bale's accent in The Prestige because Bale says that it's the closest to his own that he's ever done in a movie which is funny. I'm seeing Casino Royale for a third time on Saturday can't wait. [face_dancing][face_dancing]

Saw The Prestige on Sunday and it is a fantastic film. Quite a different beast to CR but equally as good. Bale's accent does take a bit of getting used to and it's like his accent in Reign of Fire, but I also think it's because half the films he's made have required an English accent, the other half American so he's all over the place :p

I thought the one liners in CR were great and I didn't want them to go down the Corny route because Brosnan wore them all out several times over. And if viewing CR as a Bond film, you do have to bare in mind this is in essence the first bond film (in terms of the character) so it shouldn't really fit the mould of the previous films anyway. I always think changing and pushing things forward is the way to go, so this new style for Bond is exactly what I wanted to see, but I can understand why people prefer it to stick to the classic Bond structure and style.

My only fear was that the few recent Brosnan movies were making a mockery of the Bond formula and as Michael G Wilson said, it was getting "too fantastical" and losing street cred. I think this just simply brings it back down to earth, hard-as-nails and still super as that British super spy!

The thing with some of the previous Bond films is that Bond didn't act like what he was: an assassin. Apart from a few ruthless parts, he was far too, I dunno, theatrical. The thing I love about Royale is that it feels like Bond's a hitman.

Yeah, I liked that. He gets paid to do what he has to do, as you said, be a killer. Stop the threats and eliminate the targets with nothing fancy or dubious about it.

It was great to see this new sort of Bond and new action hero.

    :D

And on the Bond front, look what two snippets I found from CommanderBond.net:

'The Guardian reports that Casino Royale has remained at the #1 spot in the UK for a second week, after a record breaking opening on the 16th of November.

Taking in an estimated £8.5 million, the newest James Bond film outgrossed all the other films in the top 10 combined. This brings the current UK total for Casino Royale up to £27.9 million.

In second place was Borat, which took in just under £1.5 million.'

    AND

'Still labeled by many 007 fans as the best James Bond game ever, the popular GoldenEye 007 may be making a big comeback - reports HEXUS.

In an interview with MTV, Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that his company is doing everything in their power to bring back the GoldenEye 007 game for the new Wii console, which was released only a few days ago.

?Would I love to see it on virtual console? Absolutely. But there are a lot of issues there,? he said. ?Suffice it to say we would love to see it, so we?re exploring all the rights issues.?

What some of these issues entail is that both Microsoft (which purchased U.K.based Rare Ltd, the company behind GoldenEye 007) and Activision, the current holder of the Bond video game rights, would have to agree on this title being released once more.

    Time will tell?'

I hope Goldeneye does make it on the Wii's virtual console (still my fav FPS ever, may I add). The good news is that Rare still make games for the GBA, so hopefully Microsoft wont mind them releasing it and Activision are supporting the Wii so everyone can only end up a winner if they give it the go ahead. Gotta love that Reggie too, he's a leg-end!

I'm not too bothered by how much a film makes financially because it doesn't make a film better or worse, but I am pleased to see that it's on course to over-take DAD and shows that changing a financial successful formula has proved a risk worth taking....if anything it's helped increase profits so take note Studio bosses :p

    Breaking news from CommanderBond.net:

'According to Variety, Casino Royale has already earned more money from the UK box office in its first two full weeks than the entire UK box office take for 2002?s Die Another Day.

The newest James Bond film, in only two full weeks of release in the UK, has already earned $60 million. The most recent 007 film, Die Another Day grossed roughly $59 million in its entire UK box office.

Casino Royale was the 9th biggest all time UK opening day of £1.7 million as well as the biggest ever opening in the UK for a James Bond film. It beat the previous record holder, 2002?s Die Another Day (which took in £1.1 million), by 46%.

Casino Royale also made its way into the top three all time biggest UK weekend openings with $25,524,511 (about £13.49 million).'

    News from CommanderBond.net:

'Record-breaking is a term that accurately describes the success of Casino Royale?s openings in several premieres around the world. Reuters reports that yet another record is set to be broken by the 21st official James Bond film: the most successful 007 film overseas.

The film has earned nearly $200 million from the overseas box office, and Sony executives are predicting a final foreign gross of ?up toward the mid-$300 millions.? Such a feat would make Casino Royale the most successful Bond film overseas, beating the current record of $271 million held by 2002?s Die Another Day.

CBn previously reported that Casino Royale earned £5.3 million (about $10.5 million) in its third week, adding to a grand total of over £37 million, ($70 milllion+) more than the take of any previous James Bond film.

Casino Royale will open in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Hungary this upcoming weekend.'

    AND

'Reuters reports that James Bond simply cannot be beaten when it comes to the UK box office. Casino Royale has remained at the #1 spot in the country for the third straight week.

Earning £5.3 million (about $10.5 million) in its third week, Daniel Craig?s debut film as 007 has now grossed over £37 million ($70 milllion+) in the country, more than the take of any previous James Bond film.

However, Happy Feet?s penguins (which took the #1 spot for the opening weekend battle with Bond in the US) will finally be moving in on Casino Royale?s success in the UK this week, when the film opens on Friday.'
