Dantooine WIP

Having seen Dantooine popping up in a couple recent Star Wars games, I decided to do my own take on the planet. It isn't like LucasArts has any consistent idea of what it looks like. Here's what I've got so far.

Since this is a Star Wars planet, I'll be sending this to Zoo to put on Sci-fi 3d when I'm done.

 

Very nice start, hopefully your cloud maps will look as good as your terrain maps

For a basic idea of how I make my planet maps, bobabert, check out the "Dean's Honor Scholarship Project" video in the Films section of my site. If necessary, I can also create a quick tutorial on the making of a planet in Photoshop. Just specify what kind.

EDIT: What planet type do you guys want me to do the tutorial for?

 

Dathomir... or Corellia (with big ass cities)

 

Big-ass cities aren't my forté, so I'll interpret that as "terrestrial."

 

Why don't you create a tutorial on Dantooine? It only seems logical as it has terrain and oceanic aspects.

 

Yeah, I planned on doing that. And I've got most of the image supplements I need, since I saved a number of images of my progress on the texture map.

The first section of the tutorial is finished. You can find it here. The second part, which I have yet to begin, will explain how to map the planet in 3ds Max.

I'm doing a bit more than I previously expected on this map. One more polar ice cap to go.

It's finished. I sent it to Zoo, but apparently there's a policy about not accepting non-canon submissions to restrict the flow of crap that might otherwise pour in. Oh well; I'll remember to make a planet from the movies next time.
