Before he could ruminate on the images of Arianna again he was caught off guard by Vikka’s soft moan. She moved slowly and Nephros saw as she squeezed her eye lids together. Vikka opened her eyes and Nephros noticed the bluish green colour in them. They were so much more vibrant in person, intoxicating even. Vikka looked directly at him and stared into his scarlet red eyes for a few moments. She was not surprised by Nephros’ presence at that moment but she was uncertain how to react to him. Would he finish what Nyeb had started or would he free her? Vikka looked at the restraints on her wrists and then back at Nephros who had not moved or spoken a word yet. He was difficult to read but she did not sense any aggression from him, not yet.

He noticed her eyes, hein? And she also is interested in his life & his person. Well... I wonder where this will both lead them.

Here is the last part of chapter 19. Thank you for reading.

    Chapter 19 Part 4

Darth Nephros stormed through the massive super star destroyer hunting Lorn Nyeb. He was heading towards the command level until he started to sense Nyeb’s presence becoming faint which meant he was going the in the wrong direction. Nephros turned and took a lift down to the hanger bay deck. As the lift’s door opened, an eerie scene of empty corridors presented itself to Sith and then a sudden realization came to him. Cyrax’s forces were evacuating the ship, perhaps it was time for Nephros to leave himself.

The ship is being evacuated Vikka.” Nephros warned her over their Force bond. “You may want to leave.”
We need this ship, the naval battle depends on it.” Vikka replied. “The least we can do is disable it and make certain it cannot threaten us anymore.”
Letting them destroy the ship will accomplish the same thing.” Nephros reasoned.
I understand but if we take it back we have the advantage. We’re at the bridge now…”

Vikka had closed down the connection leaving Nephros with his own thoughts which had turned on him. He began ask himself the reason for warning Vikka of his discovery. Nephros began to justify it by telling himself that it was not an honourable way for her to die in a ship explosion, she deserved more. Vikka deserved a warrior’s death at the hands of a warrior. There was no honour in losing her life to a coward like Cyrax and his minions. The next question was, if Nephros was to be that warrior, would he do it? Nephros’ thoughts had begun to betray him and the lines of his relationship with Vikka had begun to blur. He needed to refocus his attention on to the task at hand, he needed to focus on the Dark Side.

The troubled Dark Lord arrived at a massive storage room that he had to cross in order to reach the hanger bay that berthed the Furious Rancor. Suddenly the Force warned him that he was not alone and a significant signature approached him. The presence was unmistakable, Lorn Nyeb was waiting for him. Nephros continued forward as the thought of Nyeb stalking him had only enraged him further. His senses heightened in the moment and as Nephros passed a number of storage containers and crates he felt the Force warn him again. In the next second Nephros lashed out and caused an eruption for Force power that blew away everything around him that was not bolted to the ground. The other thing standing in the midst of the clearing was Lorn Nyeb with his lightsabre drawn.

“You’re a brute Lord Nephros.” Nyeb said with sarcasm. “You have no direction and your faith in the Dark Side wavers. A pathetic excuse for a Sith.”
“Says the man that was the emperor’s lackey attack dog.” Nephros snarled in a low tone. “You chose the light and then fled to the Dark Side out of survival. Where are your convictions Nyeb?”
“Exactly where they need to be. In a place where I will survive no matter what happens in this rebellion.”
“You’re not getting off this Star Destroyer Lord Nyeb” said Nephros as he ignited his dual lightsabre staff.

Nyeb ignited his own blade and went at Nephros for an attack and Nephros did the same. Their sabres smashed against one another and the act repeated itself numerous times in the next few seconds. The two blade masters attacked with ferocity and at times savagery. These were two men that truly hated each other and their kill strikes were a spot on representation of that hatred. Nephros gorged himself with the Dark Side of the Force as it emanated from both combatants. Nyeb did not use the light nor did he bask in the dark but he used the Force as he knew it, to augment himself. He relied more on his considerable lightsabre skills and as such, he met all of Nephros’ kill strikes.

Nephros pushed Nyeb back and quickly used the Force to fire a dozen different objects that were on the floor at Nyeb from all directions. Nyeb sensed the danger and leaped out of the way of the oncoming attacks. Nephros did not relent and fired a wild barrage of Force lightning that Nyeb intercepted with his lightsabre and a smile. Nyeb’s cockiness only enraged Nephros further and the Dark Lord pressed his lightning attack to the point that he was grinding his teeth into powder. Nyeb realized that Nephros’ attack was going to eventually overwhelm him, he knew it, and he also knew he would not be able to stop it.

The attack was all too familiar to Nyeb as he recalled the battle Darth Nephros had with the Jedi Masters on Nar Shaddaa. The lightning began to spill over his lightsabre and Nyeb’s arms began to tingle from the electric shocks, and in seconds the intensity of those shocks multiplied. He felt his arms began to stiffen and with a massive effort Nyeb freed one of his hands. He fired a blast of Force energy that Nephros did not expect. Nyeb had managed to give himself an opportunity to get out of the way. Nephros stopped his attack and watched as Nyeb had dropped to a knee with his lightsabre in a defensive guard.

“You’re fading Lord Nyeb.” Nephros taunted. “Come, let’s finish this so I can attend to your master.”
“You’re too confident Nephros. Cyrax has grown in power since you met us on Nar Shaddaa. You will find him much more willing to confront you.” Nyeb replied.
“My confidence isn’t baseless. Your so called master feared me then and he still does now.” Nephros said.
“You’re not who you were then either Lord Nephros.” Nyeb said as he stood up. “Your judgement has been clouded as well. And for what? A woman. A Jedi no less. I know Vikka is beautiful, but to throw away your destiny for her is the ultimate sign of your weakness. I’ll say it again, you’re pathetic.”

Nephros knew that Nyeb was right to a certain extent. He had allowed his feelings for Vikka cloud his judgement and Nyeb would never allow him to forget it. Nephros would have to choose at some point but at this moment the only thing that he could focus on was crushing Nyeb’s windpipe with his bare hands. The Dark Lord charged forward again and with his dual bladed lightsabre he came at Nyeb at all angles within milliseconds of each other. No matter how he felt about Vikka, Nephros could always drop himself into the Dark Side and bring out the beast that raged within him.

Nyeb began to falter as he could not match Nephros’ intensity and speed. The brute force of the Sith’s strikes were taking their toll and finally Nephros struck Nyeb’s leg and dropped him to a knee. Nephros went for the killing blow and without warning a barrage of laser fire came from a corridor and a bolt had struck him in the shoulder. Nyeb took advantage and Force pushed the Dark Lord away. He picked himself up and then left the hanger through the battle droids that had arrived. Nephros rose to his feet and saw that Nyeb had escaped the hanger. The Sith took two steps towards the droids and was about to chase after Nyeb until Vikka commed him.

“Marcus?” Vikka said in a quiet voice. “The Tiber is set to self-destruct. We can’t stop the count down, but we did stop its trajectory of ramming into our battle station. You’ve got to get off the ship now.”
“How much time do I have?” Nephros asked surprised by Vikka’s warning. He understood why she was speaking in hushed tones. She was hiding the fact that she had reached out to him.
“Twenty minutes maximum. Get off the ship.” Vikka then closed the comm-link down.

Nephros was annoyed that he hadn’t finished Nyeb but it was obvious that he had to leave now. He replaced his lightsabre on his belt and used Force enhanced speed to get to the hanger that the Furious Rancor was berthed in. When he got to the hanger he noticed red emergency lights blinking and an alarm was blaring and warning every one of the ship’s demise. Nephros was too bent on killing Nyeb that he had failed the notice the obvious signs. He started the launch sequence and took off out of the hanger bay of the massive Star Destroyer and made for Coruscant’s surface.

Nephros had to admit that it was a smart play by Cyrax to destroy the Tiber. If he could not hold the ship, he would make sure no one could have it. Nephros was content of one thing. He had successfully helped the Empire and had at least slowed Cyrax’s progress by helping Vikka escape. Nephros now needed to understand what the situation was on Coruscant’s surface. He still had access to Darth Erebus’ contacts and he called up a report from the surface. Nephros saw that the situation on Coruscant itself was grim. Cyrax had unleashed his virus, and it had already infected hundreds of citizens. The CSF and the Jedi had wisely quarantined the infected at the Fobosi Medical Centre and had seemingly stopped the spread of the virus. Nephros believed the chances of this being a permanent solution were slim. A virus had to be incinerated and by keeping the infected alive, the CSF and Jedi were only keeping the virus alive. Their short-sightedness would be their downfall if they allowed this to continue. Nephros knew what had to be done.

    ***

“Get off the ship.” Vikka said as she quickly placed her comm link back onto her belt. She watched Darth Nephros, or Marcus think for a moment and then leave the scene on the security cameras. Vikka had just witnessed the Sith Lord defeat and bring her former master to his knees. She was impressed more and more every time she watched Nephros fight. His ferocity and intensity were unmatched and made up for those times when his opponent was more skilled than he was. His ability to use the Force with such rage only spoke to his commitment to the Dark Side. Yet, Vikka could not help but think that there was a crack in his dark faith and that she could be the one to save him.

It was undeniable that there was a connection between them and Vikka was beginning to enjoy the intensity that Nephros emanated. She felt that it was something she understood and she respected it. However, Vikka’s respect for Nephros had turned into something more after the events on the Tiber. She did not know what she felt anymore. Nephros had saved her and had shown her compassion as he understood it. He had dropped his defences, and his hate for Jedi at a time when she needed help. Vikka became hopeful that Nephros was softening but she knew that there was much more she needed to do to bring the good out of him. Perhaps maybe, even the love out of him.

“Vikka!” Trip called out to her. “What are you doing there?”
“I was looking for Nyeb on the security system.” She replied while closing down the station. “It looks like he’s escaped.”
“What about Nephros?” Trip asked with an edge in his voice.
“What about him?” Vikka replied with the same edge in her voice. “It looks like he’s gone too.”
“We’d better get to the hanger bays with the crew. There’s not much more that we can do.” Trip said. “It’s such a shame that we couldn’t take the ship back.”
“We saved dozens of crew and eliminated a major threat against us Trip. We did well.” Vikka replied in a calmer tone while she rubbed Trip’s upper arm. “Let’s get back to Coruscant before the ship detonates.”

Vikka, Trip and the freed crew members fled to the hanger bay and boarded three transports, including Vikka’s personal freighter. They escaped the Tiber and plotted course to the CSF station on Coruscant. Trip confirmed with Master Baron the people that he and Vikka had saved. Trip was told to report to Master Joy and Master Baron to discuss the next phase of the planet’s defence. Trip stole a look at Vikka who was in the pilot’s chair. She looked exhausted and he wanted to be able to comfort her. Unfortunately all he could think about was Vikka’s hand on Nephros’ chest.

Trip suddenly realized that he forgot to address the fleet. “Imperial Forces, this is Jedi Knight Trip Vrand. Everyone brace for a massive shock-wave. The dreadnought Tiber is going to explode. Clear the blast radius and regroup at station Sword.” Trip warned his crews and over the comms to all of the Empire’s forces.

The loud sound of the massive explosion rang out seconds later Vikka’s ship vibrated heavily from the force of the Tiber’s destruction. All of the ship’s view ports were filled with a blinding white and orange light from the massive fireball. The hull of the Ulik made a groaning sound as it twisted slightly because of the force coming against it. The debris from theTiber’s wreckage was pelting Vikka’s ship and a piece even slammed against the viewport which thankfully had not cracked the reinforced cockpit glass. The Tiber’s debris was akin to an asteroid field as there was a variety of different pieces and their sizes could either tear a ship in half or bounce off them harmlessly. Both the Imperial forces and Cyrax’s forces would have to be weary of the wreckage or risk being destroyed by it.

After Vikka levelled the ship out, she put in a course to CSF headquarters in the midst of the now stalled space battle. Both navies had cleared themselves from the Tiber’s blast radius and now each group had to take stock. Vikka could see with just a glance that the Empire was still outnumbered by the enemy ships. She hoped that with the destruction of the Tiber, the Empire’s forces could rally and apply real pressure on the invaders. To push back the invaders, the Empire needed more ships and Vikka was not sure where they would get them from. Not only did they need more numbers in space, the Empire required more boots on the ground to defeat Cyrax’s droid forces and mercenaries on the planet’s surface.

Vikka looked at Trip and did not say anything except to give him a simple nod as she navigated to Coruscant’s surface. She wanted to talk to him more about what had happened with Nephros but she feared that she already knew how he would react to that conversation. With her ship full of Tiber crew members, she could not speak to him freely at that moment no matter how much she wanted to. Vikka would have to wait until they reached the surface. She wanted to tell Trip that everything would be fine between them but she knew that was not true anymore. Something had ignited between her and Nephros and even though she did not understand it fully, Vikka would not reject it, at least not yet.

Ha, she calls him Markus and he reacts to his old name without holding one of the usual darksider speeches.

There is hope for him and he is kind to Vikka... [face_love]

Loved the duel by the way. Fierce blades & fierce words! =D=

Too bad that Nyeb could not be dealt with decisively after all. That was as much of a victory as they could hope for and now they can plan the next step. Wow, just. Vikka and Nephros are diverging onto totally unexpected feelings for each other. She wanted to redeem him; he to recruit her at the very least. [face_thinking] And poor Trip looks to be left out in the cold. =D=

    Thank You early. :) I wouldn't say that...yet? Maybe? :p

Thank you Azure. :) I'd like to think that Nephros knows he has a past and he can embrace that. Besides, it is probably more of a Vikka thing than anything else. He's smitten. :p

Thank you Nyota. :) Yeah, everytime I try to kill that guy, I'm just not ready, yet. :p It's safe to say that Nephros doesn't want an apprentice, there's something else...:p

Hopefully I will get something up this weekend.

Thank You for reading Ladies. Much Appreciated and I hope you enjoy this next part. :D

Chapter 20 Part 1– Coruscant – CSF Headquarters

Fleet Admiral Dalporte entered the command centre of CSF Headquarters with an entourage of soldiers. He saw that Grand Master Joy and Master Darius Baron were looking at holo-screens that were showing the aftermath of the destruction of the Tiber. With the death of Taric Raywood, Dalporte had to direct all military operations now instead of solely the ground deployments. Raywood’s loss was a major blow the Imperial cause and the Emperor himself had even commented on how he regretted the loss. For Dalporte, this was not a time to mourn Taric’s loss, it was a time to honour him by fighting back and maintaining the Empire from Cyrax.

Dalporte also knew that there was another threat, his former colleague and friend Marcus. He was not surprised when he had first found out that Marcus had returned to the Galactic Core as the Sith Lord Darth Nephros. It was a sad day all those years ago when Marcus had escaped Jedi Master Sarro and killed a Cor-Sec general. Dalporte had to feel eternally grateful that Marcus had spared his life that day. Now Dalporte was charged with eliminating all threats to Coruscant including Marcus. Shortly after Marcus’ attack, Dalporte left Cor-Sec to further his military career on his home planet of Coruscant with the CSF. The move had paid off as he had risen through the ranks very quickly and he was now second only to Emperor in terms of political power and stature throughout the Empire.

Dalporte had used his influence with the help of the Emperor to persuade the Hapan Consortium to aid in the battle. They promised three capital ships and about a half dozen destroyers with a full complement of fighters. The only issue was that it would take time to organize and deploy their home based fleet. The Hapans feared that their position within the Empire would make them a target for Cyrax and that was why they did not send their fleet. Dalporte and Emperor Vox were thankful for whatever the Hapans could send their way and for Dalporte they could not arrive soon enough.

The Situation on Coruscant’s surface seemed to be a little grimmer than what was happening in the planet’s orbit. The Jedi Temple was in ruins as it was one of the first targets along with the Senate building to be destroyed in the initial bombing runs. The Emperor had deployed most of his ground forces to crucial points of the planet that included power plants, medical centres and essential services that kept the planet operating during the attacks. The Emperor had deemed the defence of the Senate building and even Imperial Centre as non-priority buildings. He had allowed Cyrax to have his symbolic gesture of power. The seat of government had moved to CSF headquarters as it was heavily fortified, well placed for defensive purposes and the building was connected to ship docking bays that made transport of supplies easier. It was also where the Jedi had regrouped after the temple.

Master Joy, Master Baron and select group of Knights had remained with the CSF to coordinate the ground forces that had Jedi Knights accompanying them. The Emperor had correctly predicted that the fighting would be around utility plants and not major urban areas. Citizens had been moved to massive shelters in the lower levels of the planet that could sustain thousands of beings for months. Cyrax had taken up residence at Imperial Centre after he spared a part of it to make his own command centre. The infected beings of Cyrax’s virus had been quarantined at the Fobosi Medical Centre. It was a crucial stroke of luck that the infection did not spread as fast as Cyrax wanted due to the precise evacuations. That part of Cyrax’s plan had fallen short and now the CSF and Jedi could concentrate their efforts on taking down Cyrax.

The CSF and Jedi however underestimated Cyrax’s ground forces. It had become painfully evident that the Sith Lord had been stock piling thousands of B1 battle droids for some time. Imperial commando surveillance had uncovered massive storage facilities after the fact. Cyrax had done a masterful job in his preparations and his advantage on the field were a testament to that. The Jedi and CSF cleared numerous battle droid divisions but the number of droids that were still operational was astounding. They also had issues defeating the mercenary led groups.

Coruscant in this age was a planet for those that lived everyday normal lives. It was home for a generation of beings that had never seen war zones. They had not been associated with planets that were heavily militarized. Recent history had shown that Coruscant was not in need of such societies. However, ancient histories from the Old Republic showed a very different view. The Republic of Master Yoda’s Jedi was another example of a war torn time. Even the New Republic of Luke Skywalker and his sister Leia Organa Solo was a lesson that any peaceful society may one day be engulfed in the flames of war. The last time war had come to this planet was almost three hundred years ago when Darth Krayt remade another Empire. His defeat kicked off a lasting peace as the galaxy was truly weary and decimated by war. No society had the stomach to carry on the madness. It was time to rebuild and mend the scars.

As of that moment Fleet Admiral Dalporte and the Jedi Masters could see that Cyrax’s forces had stopped their progression for the time being. He assumed that Cyrax had ceased his assault to get an update on his operations in space. An idea of attacking Imperial Centre had crossed Dalporte’s mind but he felt that he would need as many Jedi as possible and at that moment he only had three of them. The two of the most powerful masters of the Order and a Knight who seemed more technically inclined than anything else and his name was Forge. That young one never seemed to leave Grand Master Joy’s side. It was Dalporte’s belief that Master Joy was awaiting the two Knights that had been responsible for neutralizing the Tiber. It would have been more productive if they had taken the ship back but the actual result was satisfactory in that Cyrax had lost it as well.

“Master Joy,” Dalporte started. “Any news of your Knights and the Tiber’s crew?”
“They are on their way back here Admiral.” Joy responded. “The crew is also with them. They are inbound with three freighters.”
“That’s good news. We’re going to need to start planning our next move. I believe that we should strike Imperial Centre now that Cyrax’s force’s resolve has been shaken with the loss of the Tiber.”
Master Joy turned to Dalporte and said “They are not the only ones returning from the Tiber Admiral. Lorn Nyeb escaped and Knights Gratua and Vrand encountered Darth Nephros. I can feel through the Force that there their part to play is yet to be revealed.”
“I sensed it as well Admiral.” Master Baron confirmed. “The Force continues to shift towards the Dark Side I fear.”
Dalporte knew where this conversation was going. “So we wait to see what they do? I feel we need to push back and with a show of strength Masters.”
“Nyeb will most certainly rejoin Cyrax. What I can’t see and what I fear the most is what will Darth Nephros do. I sense his presence already.”
“We should meet our enemies on the battlefield Master Jedi.” Dalporte pleaded. “Let them react to us. I would organize a charge but I know that Cyrax’s Dark Jedi would be there to meet us. We need the Jedi Knights to take the fight to them.”
“You aren’t wrong and I would also like to change tactics Admiral but there is that one unknown that we cannot ignore.” Master Baron added. “Master Joy’s reflections need to be heeded when it comes to matters of the Force.”
“I don’t like staying idle Masters. I know the virtue of patience but in this case we need a victory for morale at the very least. Losing the Tiber isn’t enough. The men need something tangible.”
“I fear that your men need to take solace in the smallest of victories then Admiral.” Master Joy said while looking at the holo screens again. “The darkness is approaching. Immolation is at hand.”
“I will not sacrifice my people that easily Master Jedi” Dalporte said in anger. “Support this attack or I will use my sway with the Emperor to make you give me the Jedi Knights I need.”
“Do what you must Admiral. The battle for the Force is on two fronts with Cyrax and Lorn Nyeb at one and Darth Nephros on the other.” Master Joy explained. “The fight against Cyrax cannot move forward unless we know what Nephros intends to do. His actions may tip the balance and I need to know what those actions are so I can support them or counter them.”
“You think that Sith will help us?” Dalporte asked.
“No. I think he will attempt to rid the galaxy of Cyrax and Nyeb who he feels are false Sith. If he does that, then we can support that. If he tries to attack the Jedi first then we must face him and defeat him.” Joy finished saying as she turned to her newest Padawan Forge. “Nephros will determine the tides of this battle and we will have to navigate through them. But not until I know where that tide is coming from.”
“One being cannot affect this battle that much, you’re giving Marcus too much credit.” Dalporte countered.
“Marcus is gone.” Master Joy said grimly. “Darth Nephros has arrived,”

    ***

    Imperial Centre

Cyrax sat in room that was only lit by holo-screens and the desks were littered with data pads that had schematics of Coruscant and information about the current state of the planet. The Emperor’s office had access to real time information about every critical building in Imperial City. However, all Cyrax was seeing at those buildings were battalions of CSF soldiers being led by Jedi Knights. His ground assault had progressed but they had not taken any vital targets that would force the Emperor into surrendering the planet. Cyrax was impressed with the practicality of Emperor Vox and how he had easily abandoned buildings such as Imperial Centre and the Senate knowing that they served little in terms of military importance. The only advantage that Cyrax had was that the Fobosi Medical Centre was full of infected citizens.

Cyrax’s virus had been slowed and the Empire’s response to it was holding for the time being. They had quarantined thousands and Cyrax had plans of freeing all of them by bringing the medical centre off line. By unleashing all the infected citizens, it would simply add to the chaos. Cyrax would then be able to bring the Empire to its knees by showing himself as the lone being who could stop the virus and end the conflict. These plans all hinged on Cyrax slaying the Emperor and putting himself in command. With no leader the Empire would have to follow him if they wanted to stop the violence. The other unknown was Darth Nephros. What were the Sith Lord’s plans and when would he set those plans in motion?

The loss of the Tiber had enraged Cyrax but in the grand scheme of the attack it was a loss that he could take. He still maintained the upper hand in Coruscant’s orbit as he had more ships and Admiral Wam’kodo commanding them. Cyrax had commanded the Admiral to destroy the Tiber knowing that he still could take the naval battle in space. Lorn Nyeb was also on his way back to Coruscant and when his apprentice arrived, Cyrax would launch his attack on CSF headquarters. With his Fallen Jedi Knights and Nyeb’s power in the Dark Side growing daily, Cyrax was confident he could take the last bastion of hope from the Empire.

“My Lord?” A Blood Rock mercenary asked as he came into the room. “Lorn Nyeb has arrived.”
“Tell him to come to me.” Cyrax replied. After a few moments Lorn Nyeb walked through the door. “Welcome my apprentice.” Cyrax said as his words dripped with sarcasm.
“Master, why did you have the Tiber destroyed?” Nyeb asked. “I still needed more time. In one stroke I could have destroyed Vikka, her lover and Darth Nephros.”
“I saw the footage from the Tiber’s security recordings. Nephros has become compromised with your old apprentice I see. He is weak and she makes him vulnerable.”
“Exactly!” Nyeb responded. “I was using that.”
“What you didn’t know was that Wam’kodo was about to lose the bridge and the whole ship because you left him behind to hunt Nephros!” Cyrax yelled as he extended his arm and caught Nyeb by the throat with Force. “I would still have the Tiber if you hadn’t let your old scores dictate your actions!”
Cyrax’s rage was evident but he released Nyeb nevertheless. “I knew. Wam…”
“You know nothing Lord Nyeb.” Cyrax interrupted him. “You know what I tell you. What I say now is that we will take all of our Fallen Jedi Knights, a battalion of battle droids, mercenaries, and we will destroy Imperial Centre. Prepare yourself.”
“Of course Lord Cyrax.” Nyeb replied.

Nyeb rubbed his neck and looked into the changed eyes of Cyrax. His master seemed agitated and the calm demeanour that he usually exuded was gone and it was replaced by rabid anger. Perhaps the stress of the invasion was causing Cyrax to doubt himself but Nyeb sensed something more sinister at play. Cyrax’s complexion had been altered since the last time he saw his master. The Dark Side had started to take a more severe toll on Cyrax as his skin looked paler and tight. Nyeb guessed that It was not stress, it was Cyrax’s strength in the Dark Side growing. In those next few moments Nyeb began to realize that his half-hearted attempt to control the Dark Side and not falling to it completely was actually weakening him. He needed to either control the Dark Side or die. Following the path of the Jedi was not an option for him any longer, nor did he want to either. This was all about survival now.

Cyrax walked to a box of supplies and took his lightsabre, his armour and a hooded robe. He commed the leader of his fallen Jedi Knights and informed them that they would be invading the CSF headquarters. He would wait no longer and continue to press his advantage before events were out of his control. The Jedi remained complacent and he saw that as weakness. Nephros had yet to reveal his course of action and Cyrax had no intention of waiting for him either. He would take the CSF stronghold and kill the Emperor so he could take his place as the new ruler of the galaxy.

“My Lords!” A distressed Blood Rock operator yelled from outside Cyrax’s door.”
“What is it?” Nyeb asked as he opened the door and walked into the control room.
“It’s him, Darth Nephros. He’s at the Fobosi Medical Centre.” The operator said.
“What is he doing there?” Nyeb asked as he turned to Cyrax who was walking out of his room.”
“He’s undermining us Lord Nyeb.” Cyrax said darkly as he put his lightsabre on his belt. “He’s going to destroy the virus.”
“How my Lord?” The operator said as he became instantly sorry he said anything at all to Cyrax’s face.
    “Nephros is starting a purge.”
“Then let us end him Master.” Nyeb said.
Cyrax thought about the situation and finally replied, “You will confront Nephros with the fallen Knights Lord Nyeb. Surely twelve of you can defeat one man.”
    “What about you?” Nyeb asked.
“I will take a battalion of troops and finish CSF headquarters and destroy the Emperor. I need the visual confirmation so the populace understands that I rule here.” Cyrax explained. “Defeating Nephros and the Jedi is essential now.”
“The Jedi.” Nyeb said seeing the logic in his master’s plan. “They will certainly try to stop Nephros from killing innocents. They will fight each other.”
“Of course they will. That is why I am sending my remaining fallen Jedi with you. I have reports that Master Joy, my former apprentice and a handful of Knights remain with the Grand Master. The resulting confusion will be the perfect setting for you to finish the lot of them.”
“It is a sound plan master.” Nyeb conceded. “I require a droid battalion as well.”

“Granted.” Cyrax responded. “We have units positioned close to that area. You may use them as you see fit. Go now Lord Nyeb, finish them and then join me for our final victory.”

Enjoyed the talk between Dalporte and Joy. =D= Her strategy is a sensible one. On the other side, Cyrax seems very very confident of success. [face_nail_biting] Either way, I do feel this will be the final battle. [face_thinking] And that Marcus/Nephros will tip the scales.

Glad you enjoyed it early. Funny how you're looking at Nephros as the hero now. [face_thinking]

Thanks for the comments. I hope you're not disappointed when I tell you Nyota, that this won't be the final battle. There's more to this story yet. :D

I'll have something on Saturday hopfully.

A short update, but an important one. Thank You for reading. :D

    Chapter 20 Part 2 - CSF Headquarters – Coruscant

Trip walked through the hallway with a tray that held two beautiful nerf steaks, two sides of greens, and two cold protein drinks for him and Vikka. After they had landed at CSF headquarters Master Joy had ordered the two of them to recovery and to take a few hours for themselves before their re-deployments. Matters on the ground were worse than when they were in Coruscant’s orbit. The CSF and Jedi were constantly playing catch up and not making up any real ground on Cyrax’s ground forces. A little bit of quiet time would do Vikka and Trip a world of good. Trip wanted to resume talking to her about what he had seen when he walked in on Vikka and Nephros in the Tiber’s detention centre. Trip was not sure what to make of Nephros anymore. Either he believed Nyeb that Nephros wanted to make Vikka his apprentice or he believed his gut, which was telling him that there was something between Nephros and Vikka, something worse than evil.

There had been something different about Vikka ever since she and Nephros fought on Nar Shaddaa. Something had changed inside of her and getting Vikka to reveal anything was hard enough, now it was almost impossible. Trip simply wanted to hold her, crash his lips against hers and tell that he loved her. Vikka had simply made it incredibly difficult to do so in the past few months. Trip had even entertained the thought that perhaps their relationship had run its course and it was time to move on. Of course he would never propose such a thing to Vikka and if it was to end then she would have to be the one to do it. Trip loved her and everything she could be, but to him Vikka kept getting stuck in moments and never thought about the future or the consequences of her actions.

On more than occasion Trip had felt Vikka’s mind drop into a dark place. She was doing so more often since her duel with Darth Nephros. On that fateful day, Trip believed that a connection between the two of them was forged and Vikka was not telling him about. If there was such a connection, Trip would be devastated that the Force would allow such a bond between him and Vikka and also one between Nephros and Vikka. He loved her and would do anything for her, however, she did not see that anymore. Vikka had become fascinated with Darth Nephros since she met him and her unwillingness to leave that fascination behind made Trip begin to question her. He wished it was not the case, but Sith Lords were not meant to be partners, especially for Jedi. Whatever the outcome of the upcoming conversation, Trip wanted answers. He felt he deserved them and he felt he deserved better from Vikka. He wanted to love her but if she was not willing to love him then Trip knew what he had to do. He hoped it would not get to that though.

    ***

Vikka had gone directly to the medical centre and had her wounds treated, cleaned, and sutured. It was incredible what bacta salve and kolto proteins could do to wounds. She almost had a full range of motion in her newly repaired left shoulder where Lorn Nyeb had plunged his lightsabre. Their mission was not a total success but it was not a total failure either. The destruction of the Tiber may have saved the remnants of the Imperial Fleet and from what she understood the Hapans were mobilizing a small attack group to eventually reinforce the Empire’s forces. The planet’s lone remaining orbital battle station was now more important than ever as it could prolong the space battle until the Hapans arrived with its weapons and shield generators. It also housed the few remaining star fight squadrons the empire possessed as well.

Vikka had gone back to her room and was taking a sani-steam while Trip had gone to see Master Joy and get some food. Vikka closed her eyes and soaked her head under the stream as the boiling water cleansed her skin. The back of her eye lids replayed the battle with Lorn Nyeb and of course her encounter with Darth Nephros, Marcus. The thought of him made her warm and then confused as her next thought was always about Trip. She debated within herself over what she felt for the Sith Lord. There was always an appreciation for his abilities but it was evident to her and now Nyeb as well, that Marcus cared for her in his own way. Vikka knew it in her heart that their relationship was not something normal, in that, it was not good versus evil anymore, and it was not curiosity driving her anymore. The lines of appropriateness were blurred. She simply was not sure even though Marcus had told her he could not give her what she sought.

Vikka felt a kinship with Marcus in which they both had early lives where they were both mistreated and their innocence had been taken advantage of. Lorn Nyeb had taken her at a tender age and honed her into a weapon. Vikka was shown an alternate path with the Jedi, the caring of Master Exas, and especially the influence of Trip. Marcus had fewer choices then Vikka did and as a result he honed himself into a warrior with Cor-Sec. He had finally found something good, in Arianna Dern, who was stripped away from him. What Vikka did not want to admit to herself was that she may have made her choice to stay a Jedi because she was an inherently good person, while Marcus may have always had a darkness within him that made it natural for him to follow the path of the hate to the Dark Side.

Physically he was an imposing man with the largest frame she had ever seen. His brute strength was the complete opposite to Master Joy’s graceful movements. She remembered being beside him and feeling so small beside his muscular body but attracted to it nonetheless. Then she recalled her hand gently placed inside of his. Vikka rubbed her eyes and saw the image of Marcus’s face. He had a perfectly cut jaw made of stone and piercing eyes that even though they were corrupted by the Dark Side, there was still an intensity and an understanding of pain within them. He was a beautiful man and she was attracted to him on that level as well. However, his statements were what made Vikka concluded that there was good inside of him or she wanted to believe it regardless if there was or not.

Vikka finished her sani-steam and started to dry herself off. She noticed that the temperature of the water had caused her skin to go a deep shade of red. She started to dress and suddenly she heard Trip enter the room and she tried to dress quicker but he had already burst into the room with her only wearing undergarments. “Trip! Wait outside please. I’m not dressed.” Vikka exclaimed while covering her chest with her arms.
“What’s the matter Vikka?” Trip questioned. “It’s not like I haven’t seen you na…”
“Get out.” Vikka yelled back as she watched Trip’s heart sink as he left and closed the door.

Vikka sat on the bed and put her head into her hands as tears began to run down her face. She was extremely confused and was not sure how to act around Trip. All he wanted to do was care for her and all she could think of was another man. She knew that Marcus was wrong for her and that Trip should be the perfect man for her. However, she felt attracted to Marcus because they both had pasts that had caused them tremendous pain. She did not have that commonality with Trip. He came from a wholesome family that cared for him until the Jedi came to recruit him. Vikka felt that she and Trip actually had little in common when she thought about it. His recent constant preaching was wearing on her and she had not realized it until that very moment. Where Marcus saw potential in her power, Trip saw something sinister even though Vikka did not feel the call to the Dark Side. She was a Jedi.

Vikka finished dressing herself and walked into the main area of their room. Trip was sitting at a table staring at a data pad while a tray with two covered plates sat in front of him. He looked at Vikka and said, “I’m sorry for barging in on you.”
“I’m sorry for snapping at you Trip.” Vikka said while looking at the floor.
“What’s happening to us Vikka?” Trip asked with what seemed like pain in his voice. “I feel like we’re losing what we have together.”
“I know Trip but things are complicated right now, for everyone.” Vikka replied. “The invasion, the war, and I feel like this battle is slipping through our fingers.”
“That isn’t what I’m talking about. Are you saying the invasion is to blame for our relationship problems?”
“Trip, don’t be so selfish.” Vikka answered more annoyed than ever. “There’s a bigger issue to think about. People are dying all over Coruscant and you’re worried about your love life?”
“It really bothers me that you’re not concerned by it Vikka. I feel like I’m losing you to a Sith!”
“Nephros?” Vikka asked. “He saved my life. He…”
“He wants you Vikka.” Trip interrupted. “He either wants you to be his apprentice or he wants you, wants you. Which disgusts me just thinking about it.”
“Trip, I’m not falling to the Dark Side and I’m not sure about anything else you’re talking about. I don’t love Darth Nephros. I do respect him though. He has amazing abilities, powers, but most of all I think he can be turned. I believe he can be turned back to the light with the right motivation.”
“If you truly believe that then just make sure you’re not the bait Vikka.” Trip countered. “I’m not convinced you’re right but if he can be turned I don’t want you to be the thing he latches on to. I’m not giving up on you regardless of your recent actions and the secrets you’re keeping from me.”
“What actions? Secrets? We’re in different places right now Trip. Our lives are moving forward and I want to know what the direction is.” Vikka said.
“Wherever our lives lead, as long as we go there together I’ll be happy.” Trip said as he took Vikka’s hands into his.
“I’m not sure anymore Trip.” Vikka finally admitted. “You’ve become so critical and I feel like I’m constantly failing you.”
“Vikka, please. What are you saying?”
“I’m saying. I’m saying I don’t know where I’m going and until I figure it out I need space. Time.” Vikka said with tears running down her face.
“I can’t believe this.” Trip said forcibly getting up and stomping around the room. “All this for a Sith.” He shouted. “You’ll destroy our love for a Dark Lord of the Sith! He’s evil Vikka and I don’t care that he loved a Jedi in the past. I don’t care if you think there’s good in him. He will burn everything around him to get what he wants and if you’re too close you’ll be burned up too.”
“What bothers you more Trip?” Vikka said with an edge in her voice. “That I’ve just broken up with you or that you think I love someone that isn’t you? If it’s the latter then you’re no different than him. I can’t do this anymore, I can’t keep living like this. Now, I know what I feel.”

Vikka got up and took her plate and then walked into her room closing the door behind her. She uncovered her plate and cut a piece off of the nerf steak and ate it. She was famished and now she was angry too. Trip seemed more upset about losing her to Marcus than he was losing her at all. Everything in her life was an uncertainty but at least she could now conduct her life without having to worry about what others thought. She needed a clear mind and no restrictions on her thought process no matter how much it hurt her by possibly losing Trip. It was not that she did not love him, she did, but she needed to follow her heart and that meant dealing with her feelings for Marcus. A Dark Lord of the Sith.

Darth_Furio - you weren't kidding! =D= I love this kind of thing, fraught with confusion and choices. [face_thinking] Vikka and Trip may not have much in common and she and Nephros may have too much :p but Trip is right about one thing whether she stays with him or not. [face_nail_biting] A Sith will chew you up and spit you out sooner than look at you, and anything else that they claim or pretend is just that. Unless she is right and there is something good that can be reached, but that's quite a hefty if and even larger risk to take.

Now that I am busy reading "The dark side of the mind", a fascinating STAR WARS psychology book, your story, which was already interesting, sucks me in even more. Vikka has truly the altruistic mind set of a Jedi. She believes in Nephros. Still.

Thank you so much for reading and the amazing comments Ladies. :D

That's one of the questions I was trying to address, can a Sith truly love? I was facinated by Darth Malgus in the novel Decieved. He was as fierce as any Sith we've seen. He loved, protected, and did not hide his love for his Twi'lek lover. In the end though, he found that she was a weakness and he felt that she was holding him back, in terms of his commitment to the Dark Side. He coveted the power of the Dark Side more than the love of a woman who adored him, regardless of what he did. I guess I want to see if Nephros can commit to the Dark Side or can he commit to Vikka? Also, will Vikka commit to him? There are still actions to come for Vikka to judge him on. Can she, can anyone, love despite a lover's actions?

I'm adding a Dramatis Personae on the first page per a request that was made.

I'll try for this weekend for another update.

These are exactly the questions that bother me since years. [face_love] Are dark side users capable of love, friendship and parentage? Or does the dark side win above all. Like an addiction?

On that note Azure, here is the next section. I just wanted to say that this is something that took me some time to write as it is Darth Nephros at his worst. It's cold, dark, devastating, and personal to me. Some people try to justify their demons. I'm no different, but obviously not to this extent. Also, There is a mention to Darth Malgus' example in this chapter, which I wrote before I used his example in the previous post regarding Sith and Love. Thank You for reading all. :)

    Chapter 20 Part 3

    Fobosi District – Coruscant

Darth Nephros had cloaked the Furious Rancor during re-entry and berthed it in a docking bay that was abandoned during Coruscant’s evacuation. He quickly gathered his lightsabres and made his way down the loading ramp. He looked out of the massive hanger bay doors and Nephros could see in one direction the setting sun on the horizon and the beautiful red, orange and violet colours that it produced. In the other direction Nephros saw plumes of smoke rising from various spots and eerie looking abandoned streets. There were turned over and burning speeders everywhere. He started to walk casually in the shadows as if he was a normal citizen of Imperial City. He found the scene almost relaxing.

Cyrax had done well, Nephros thought to himself. His droids and mercenaries had brought about a chaos that had not been seen since the times of Darth Krayt. Cyrax was winning this war and it was time to change the tide. Nephros would weaken both sides before he determined a winner. He believed that by controlling the flow of the war he could fortify his destiny and control his fate. However, he knew that the Force never had a set future for anyone, including him, especially him. Never did he imagine that he would work in a nerf processing plant to being a Dark Lord of the Sith. Never did he imagine that he would be able to control the Dark Side the way he could only to fall in love with a Jedi. Perhaps twice. No nothing was certain.

Nephros hid his signature in the Force so that Cyrax and the Jedi could not find him, not until he wanted them to. This time to himself, gave him an opportunity to think about what he had to do and what had already happened, more specifically what had happened with Vikka. Nephros played the conversation over and over in his head and he could not come to another conclusion. She was wrong about him, he could not be turned and he did not want to turn either. The Dark Side was in his very nature and any goodness that used to be inside of him was gone long ago. Vikka’s persistence to the contrary was her looking to her Jedi teachings. She did not realize the full scope of the situation. Despite her allegiance to the Jedi’s blasphemy Vikka was powerful and Nephros respected her abilities. Her potential could be unlocked with the right teacher and she could become truly powerful.

Darth Nephros had never considered taking an apprentice as the thought of it made him cringe. All he could see at Darth Erebus’ academy was a place full of pretenders and fools. Lorn Nyeb and Cyrax were two fallen Jedi that had realized they were headed nowhere and so they sought out more power and purpose through the Dark Side. Regardless, they were pretenders as well in his opinion. As for Nephros himself he felt that he was a true student of the Sith. His time with Arianna, while amazing, only delayed the inevitable. Nephros knew in his soul that he would have never become a Jedi even with his beloved trying to steer him in that direction. That was the reason why he wanted to take her away and free her from the burden of carrying out the duties of her masters. At that time, Marcus Dal Colle wanted to leave the Force behind. Could he do that with Vikka?

Nephros started to reason with himself but he knew he did not want an apprentice, he wanted Vikka. Could he convince her like he tried to convince Arianna to leave behind galactic politics and start a life together with him? Could he leave the Dark Side for her? Could he let go of hate, vengeance, and open up to Vikka? There were too many questions and not enough answers. He had studied in Darth Erebus’ academy the history of Darth Malgus. Malgus was a power general in the Sith army during the times of the Old Republic and he had a Twi’lek woman that he loved until he had to kill her to realize his full power and potential. Malgus came to the conclusion that she had held him back. Nephros feared that Vikka would hold him back and then he would resent her.

Nephros saw so much of Arianna inside of Vikka. Powerful, beautiful, and perhaps his last chance at any kind of happiness. Except for his time with Arianna he had always been alone but Nephros had never felt lonely during his life. His anger drove him forward, it had always been there for him when everyone else around him had failed to be. His powers came from fury and were refined by combat and violence. Yet he started to wonder if he should allow his feelings for Vikka drive him forward? She seemed to think that there was something between them and perhaps she had allowed the Force to guide her to that point whereas he had fought the idea since they found out that they were bonded that fateful day on Nar Shaddaa.

Nephros’ thoughts were abruptly interrupted when he sensed multiple presences approaching him. He became angered with himself as he had allowed his thoughts about Vikka to cloud his mind and distract him from his objective. Nephros quickly hid against a building with cover and waited for whoever was approaching to come into view. He watched as two Blood Rock mercenaries and a battalion of battle droids walked past him. Nephros felt that this would be a good opportunity to reveal himself and so he began to gather the Force within him and with a powerful blast of energy he sent six to seven droids flying. As the others turned to face him they were met by Nephros’ ignited lightsabre. With Force enhanced speed a crimson blur detached the heads of the other droids and finished in front of the human and Weequay mercenaries.

Before they could reach for their weapons Nephros had thrown up his hands and grabbed each being by the throat. He watched them try to release themselves by grabbing at his hands but they were too late as Nephros had immersed himself in the Force and his enhanced strength finished both of his enemies. He dropped the bodies and once again hid his Force signature.

Nephros surveyed the area again to see if any other intruders were approaching. The human that Nephros had slain was carrying a backpack and he looked through the contents where he found a data-pad that had detailed information about the Fobosi Medical Centre. It stated that the CSF had been keeping the infected alive with an antidote that slowed the symptoms but could not eliminate the virus altogether. The strain seemed to evolve the longer it stayed in the host’s body and still, the end result was inevitably death. The Sith Lord saw the weakness in the CSF and Jedi’s plan by keeping the infected alive. They would never purge the virus by allowing it to thrive and evolve. A cleansing fire was required to stamp out the infection and take away the virus from Cyrax and with it, a psychological advantage as well.

Nephros believed himself to be correct in this instance as he knew that without a cure the virus could not be stopped in the near future. It was too contagious to allow the infected to live a little bit longer while experiencing excruciating pain. Ending the lives of the infected ceased their suffering and allowed the CSF to concentrate their resources on Cyrax, instead of spreading themselves thin here at a medical centre. Nephros would make the decision for them.

The Dark Lord found the medical centre and saw that the CSF and Jedi had set up camps outside of the actual medical centre buildings. The infected had been quarantined outside in temporary structures that housed equipment, physicians and the infected themselves. The camp was guarded by two Jedi Knights and numerous CSF soldiers. It was a significant defensive unit but not enough the stop the Dark Lord of the Sith. Darth Nephros approached the gate and three CSF soldiers intercepted him with their weapons drawn. Before they could fire a shot the Sith drew his lightsabre and cut all three of the attackers down with a few swift and graceful strokes.

Nephros crossed the threshold of the gate and the Jedi Knights quickly descended upon him. The Jedi Knights drew their own lightsabres and engaged the Sith Lord in a battle that did not last long as Nephros leaped into the air with Force enhanced speed and he used the Falling Leaf Technique to strike down one of the Jedi Knights. The other Jedi was cut down in the very next moment with a strike across his chest. More CSF soldiers approached as the camp was on high alert due to his attack. Nephros wasted no time and engaged them with a Force blast that put most of them on their backs. Those soldiers that found cover behind various things attacked the Sith but they were met by a crimson blur that picked them off one by one.

The Dark Lord found the camp’s portable power generator and with the Force he raised it into the air and moved it over one of the camp’s structures. Nephros then dropped it and watched as the generator tore through the structure’s roof and crashed inside creating a massive explosion that killed all inside. Nephros could feel the terror of those inside the remaining structures and that fear fed the Dark Side, which in turn fed the Sith Lord’s power. He basked in their panic and the look of dread on each being’s face as he cut down more and more physicians and patients. Nephros believed his actions to be a necessary tragedy to win the war on the pretenders. He knew the CSF and Jedi would not view the situation as he did but they were blinded by their codes and restricted by their oaths. Nephros had no such restrictions on him.

Oddly the doubt that Nephros felt when he was with Vikka had vanished and it had been replaced by his rage and the Dark Side. Nephros was in his element as he cleared the final three buildings and lit them all aflame. Fire response crews and more CSF soldiers came to the area but there was little they could do to help anyone as all they found was the Dark Lord standing in the middle of the chaos. The heat from the flames combined with his black robes caused Nephros to sweat and seethe as he watched the CSF reinforcement line up against him. With his double bladed lightsabre Nephros dove at them with a war cry that caused each man to hesitate a moment and in the very next moment they had been struck down one by one by a crimson semicircle. The Sith studied the area as he had unleashed a savageness that even surprised himself. Nephros’ vision was blurred and he could swear that there was a red mist that surrounded his vision. He roared into the sky as it had become darkened by the newly created plumes of smoke. In that moment Darth Nephros had accepted that he had nothing but his rage. He filled the Force with his anger and dared anyone to approach him.

Short entry this week. I'm hoping to sneak in another one soon. This was a good writing week as I was inspired by a playful dragon [face_love] .

    Chapter 20 part 4

Grand Master Joy prepared herself in the CSF garage as she collected supplies and organized her remaining forces. The Force reverberated with Darth Nephros’ ripples of anger and hate. The holo-images of the destruction that the Sith Lord wrought was horrifying to see firsthand. Joy had predicted that Nephros’ actions would determine the next crucial point in the war for Coruscant. However, the senseless murder of the infected quarantine zone patients was by far the worst atrocity of the war in Joy’s eyes. It was far worse than when the Sith had killed Erin and Brun. Joy understood that she could not let Darth Nephros roam around Coruscant freely. He was truly a beast in her eyes.

Master Joy had also received reports that Lorn Nyeb was leading the fallen Jedi Knights, a battalion of battle droids, and a mercenary group to the Fobosi Medical Centre as well. Joy was weary that Cyrax was absent from the battle and she feared where he would be while Lorn Nyeb attacked Darth Nephros. Unfortunately she had to concern herself with the immediate threats and those threats were Darth Nephros and Lorn Nyeb. The thought of allowing Lorn Nyeb to fight Darth Nephros had crossed her mind, however, she would not leave anything to chance. Her visions of the Dark Side clouding everything had finally come true. Joy simply had not envisioned that they would have lost so much, so fast.

“Master Joy we are ready when you are.” Darius Baron said while walking towards Joy. “Are you alright? You seemed like you were deep in thought.”
“I was thinking about your previous master Darius. Where would Cyrax go if he isn’t coming after us and Nephros?”
“That is a good question Master, but we must concern ourselves with Nephros and Lorn Nyeb for now. We cannot allow Nephros to continue his rampage of the Fobosi Medical site. Lorn Nyeb and the Jedi traitors being there is a bonus I feel.” Darius said with conviction.
“Traitors? Is that how you see them” Joy asked
“They are fighting to take over Coruscant and they are fighting their Order. The Jedi Order, to which they made scared vows. So yes Master, I believe they are traitors to their own cause.”
“Are you certain we are not the ones that are traitors to the cause of Force users?” Joy countered in a low tone.
“No Master. I believe the system that you helped build works and those that use the Dark Side like I once did, are selfish and short sided. I admit I did not believe in every Jedi tenant but now I believe we will do what we must to save the galaxy.” Darius said while moving closer to Joy. “You must have faith in the Force and in your Jedi. We all respect you and care for you.”
Joy looked into Darius’ eyes and she believed in what the Sword of the Jedi was saying. She always believed it but it seemed she needed to hear someone else say it. “
You’re right Master Baron. We will do this together and save our Order and the galaxy.
“Of course Master Joy, of course. I wanted to say…” Darius began saying.
    “Yes?” Joy asked.
“I wanted to say…We will prevail.”
“Oh, yes we will.” Joy said smiling but not knowing what Darius wanted to say originally. She then decided that perhaps it was best left unsaid.

The Jedi Temple’s hanger bay door opened before Master Joy who was standing right behind the massive durasteel doors. She enjoyed that she had the ability to forget the stress of what was happening behind her. Beings and droids danced back and forth within the docking bay causing a mass confusion. Master Joy had been able to push out all distractions and focus on the tasks at hand. The enormity of the moment had not been lost on her and Master Joy had prepared weapons and supplies for the Fobosi Medical Centre. She sensed great danger in fighting Darth Nephros. Unfortunately there was no other choice.

Through the Force, Joy felt a familiar presence. Her newest apprentice Forge was approaching. He stood beside her. “I’ll never get used to how big Coruscant is. It’s very pretty at dusk. Even Dromund Kaas had a beauty to it. It’s too bad that we did not know about the evil growing there.”
“Darth Nephros is a product of many things Forge. Don’t dismiss him merely as an evil being.” Joy replied surprising Forge.”
    “Master?” Forge asked.
“I wanted to believe her Forge. I wanted to believe Vikka. I know that we were wrong now after tonight’s events. He killed dozens of innocent beings. We must defeat him now.”
“Not everyone is Master Baron.” Forge said. “He’s the bravest man I’ve ever met.”
“There is another man I can think of.” Joy said with a smile. “You Forge. You came back from the Dark Side and became a Jedi. Look within your own actions. Take heart Forge, you’re braver than most.”

    Imperial Centre

Cyrax slammed a fist onto his desk as he watched holo vids of Darth Nephros devastating the Fobosi Medical Centre. A mercenary that had been assigned to be his aide cowered into the corner while the Sith rattled off so many obscenities that she could not keep count. The loss of his virus would loosen his grip on the population of Coruscant. It was one less thing he could use against the Jedi as well. The options it gave Cyrax were too numerous to count and now he had lost those options. Years of research and testing with that fool Dr. Silas had been lost due to Nephros. Cyrax knew the true Sith would figure heavily into this conflict, however, he never guessed Nephros would do some so rash and atrocious considering the reported softening that was occurring to him. Nyeb had told Cyrax that Nephros had been compromised by his former apprentice Vikka. It seemed that the situation had changed.

Cyrax was forced to implement the next phase of his plan sooner than expected. He needed to dethrone the Emperor in a public spectacle that would leave no doubt that Cyrax was the new leader of the Empire. The Emperor was the final figure head left in the hierarchy of the empire. The heads of the military had all been killed or captured and so all that was left was the Jedi and the Emperor himself. This was where that Darth Nephros become helpful. There was no way that the Jedi would allow Nephros to continue and so they had to be organizing a counter attack. At the same time he had sent Lorn Nyeb after all of their enemies.

After the thought of a beautiful battle between Nephros, the Jedi, and Lorn Nyeb, Cyrax smiled at his masterful moves. He had managed to stay ahead of them all and despite the loss of his virus, Cyrax’s plan was still progressing. He was aware that he might lose his apprentice in the battle, however, when Cyrax killed the Emperor he would have access to all of Coruscant’s Military installations and those forces would be worth the possible loss of Lorn Nyeb. Cyrax required that Nyeb take as many Jedi with him as possible to the grave before he eventually met his match against Darth Nephros. He was convinced that a final battle with either his former apprentice or Nephros was inevitable. Cyrax simply did not know which warrior he wanted to face, Either man posed a great risk. Nephros would no doubt kill him, Darius would attempt to arrest him per the Jedi way.

Cyrax sat back on his chair and his thoughts turned to the farmer who had beaten and raped him for years before Cyrax finally gutted the swine. If he had not endured such brutal treatment he never would have become who was or attained as much as he was going to have when he became emperor. Cyrax was convinced that he was destined to bring about a new generation that would be led by armies of Force users and he would be at their head as the most powerful user in the galaxy. However, he had to defeat two of the most powerful Force users that had ever been known in Darth Nephros and Grand Master Joy. Not to mention his former apprentice Darius Baron who was also a formidable opponent. Cyrax felt he could manipulate Darius with taunts from his past, and that psychological edge would give him the advantage in any battle with the Sword of the Jedi.

A picture of the end was beginning to form. Now Cyrax had to make certain that he was at the centre piece of that picture.

Great contrast: Cyrax and his confidence but Joy also has hope. [face_thinking]
