Lit Dark Empire comic trilogy - opinions

The sequels weren't even bad by usual standards. And I feel the audio drama did it a favor combining DEII with End

 

I love the art of DE. It really attributed to the dark atmosphere that was created by the authors.

For some reason, I loved DE2 more than DE1 or Empire's End.
It just made more sense to have Palpatine send out his Dark Jedi on missions across the Galaxy.
In DE1, Palpatine almost did everything himself. That did not seem right for an Emperor.
Executor Sedriss and commander Klev are some of my favourite EU characters.

A pity they had to wrap up Empire's End so fast. If they had just given Veitch another 6-part comic series, he would have come up with a plot that wrapped things up. Now, he just had to do with what was given. We will never know what happened to those captured (frozen in carbonite) Shamans on Ossus.

 

I shall chalk that up to being more in line with the movie, whilst Dark Empire 2 suddenly has Dark Side Minions falling over each other just to have more Dark Siders, same goes for Lost Jedi that show up out of nowhere.

 

I also really love the way Boba Fett is drawn and colored here. He looks very menacing.

 

Indeed! He still is the Boba Fett we know from the movies.
What I did not like from some other comics/novels is that they portrayed Fett as the good guy while in TESB he clearly was a villain.

 

You should see him in Agent of Doom and of course in Underworld

 

Really? I personally hated the artstyle in Underworld. The faces of the characters looked far too cutesey and childish.

 

I thought the art in Underworld really fit the kind of story being told(a fast-paced treasure hunt with quite a bit of humor)

As for Dark Empire: DE is great; DE2 is ok; EE is so bad it's hilarious!

 

Underworlds Art style actually works for what it wants to do, so if you like Dark Empire you are not allowed to dislike it and Boba does not look cute in Underworld

 

Hahah, fair enough.

I still think he looks cute though...

 

Anyone else think it also has some of the coolest looking ships out there in the EU?

 

I thought a lot of the ship and droid designs were well done. I liked the X-1 Viper droids from DE2 and the Eclipse.

What did the Emperor reveal?

I haven't read the comics, never been a comic guy.

I've read the plots on wookiepedia, it's a very good story. Perhaps one day they will novelize the story.

Okay, I admit, I DO like SIlver Surfer and the Incredible Hulk. But that's as far as I will go with your super heroes!

 

So I just finished reading Dark Empire II and I think people give it less credit than it deserves. Clearly part I is superior and more thought provoking, but the second part was also quite entertaining full of brilliant ideas and touches and great design and art.

 

Well, there is the ultimate in supervillain overcompensation - the Galaxy Gun! Size matters, y'know?

My first experience with Dark Empire was reading DARK EMPIRE 2. It was a great read for me, especially concidering how cenamatic it was, and how well the characters were captured from the movies. Looking back, it kinda sucks now.

Dark Empire is still great, IMO.

Never read Empires End. Mainly because of the "It Sucks" consensus, and I only like to spend my money on stuff that I have a high percentage of liking.

 

Man, the emperor/Palpatine is so incredibly creepy, scary and insane in the Dark Empire trilogy. Every face he makes is just unerving hah.
