After finding out that Dr. Who was coming to SciFi, i went to their website and saw the trailer for Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? My brother says that it has a strong Lord of the Rings influence to it.

Yes it is based on a German myth titled the Nibelungenlied which influenced the LOTR and I think the movie is coming out on March 28. To find out more about the Nibelungenlied click the link below:

It's also coming out on DVD the same day it airs, as well as the Soundtrack.

I think the Sci-Fi channel is featuring the 180 min. version of the story which is the full version while the DVD is featuring the 132 Min. cut version.

that's kind of a reversal of normality. You usually get the extended cut with a dvd release. i wonder if the "sci fi" cut will ever make it to dvd?

I watched the first 20 minutes and turned it off. The love scene was so corny. They just fall in love somehow lol.

Well that makes up my decision. I was going to flip back and forth, but if the love story alone has no depth and rushed then I'll probably reconsider. I was somewhat looking forward to this.

Ah the film with the billion different titles! It's known as Sword of Xantern here in the UK, and it's pretty good overall.

I wish they did more stories like this, classic myths and legends.

Watched both parts replay on Sunday. I thought it was quite good. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, actually.

Tri, I know it was released on DVD the same day it premiered on SciFi. I'm not sure if it released in the UK.

EDIT: After reading the Wiki page, it turns out that the Brunhild/Siegfried relationship was not part of the original legend, and Kriemheld was apparently the major protagonist. The legend goes on to tell how Kriemheld marries Atilla the Hun and kills both her brother Gunther and Hagen in her search for the dragon's treasure. Crazy stuff...

BTW, I loved Alicia Witt in this. She's amazing.

EDIT 2: Tri, it appears that it aired on Channel 4 in the UK on December 23 of last year as "The Sword of Xanten."

I caught bits and pieces of it, but didn't have the willpower to watch the entire thing. It didn't hold my interest, but since I'm familiar with what the miniseries was based off, I had a fairly decent grasp of what was going on.
