    Newsarama Announcement

"The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe."

Famous (near) last words that Moff Tarkin said in Star Wars: A New Hope, and what he’s talking about is Darth Vader’s scouring of the Star Wars universe after Revenge of the Sith decimating the ranks of the fabled Jedi Order. But in a new series set between Episode III and Episode IV, long-time Star Wars creators Randy Stradley and Doug Wheatley show a last-ditch effort by a rag-tag group of Jedi to take down Darth Vader before the Empire’s grip fully strangled the Jedi once in for all.

Launching July 17, Star Wars: Dark Times: A Spark Remains shows one of the last “sparks” of Jedi – the insectoid Beyghor Sahdett and a lovesick Dass Jennir – attempting to mount an assassination of the right hand of the Empire, Darth Vader. The Jedi are used to long odds, but even these two know they need some back-up – it’s just a matter of finding the right Jedi for the job.

There are several pieces of art and covers in that article for the rest of the series as well. Below are the two cover pieces, follow the link for the 3 interior preview pages.

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Finally!

And now I have a new desktop background.

But I'm thinking Sahdett and Jennir need to get in line -- how many folks are trying to kill Vader at this point?

EDIT: Sahdett has a "cult following." This is why I love Star Wars fans.

We wanted to know who the Verpine Jedi was the minute we saw him. My attempts to ID him in a WTS entry were not successful. But that's ok, I'm more than willing to defer to Randy this time ;).

Obviously he was there for his Episode III promotional photo shoot.

    Don't worry,
    he makes it.[IMG]

I love the trio of lights in his silhouette in that first cover, though.

In the "speculation over" thread, Ive heard this is the last arc for Dass, but not for Dark Times. Does anyone have a link for the statement?

Oooooooh, I love, love, love that image.

It brings back such fond memories of one of my other favourite villains.

All we know is that Randy described this arc at C6 as being the story the series has been building to since the first arc. What that means for Dass or the series is only fan speculation at this point. This could be the finale, this could just be the end of the first chapter.

It's a Dorman piece, I believe. Forget the origin.

Can't wait for this one. Seems like it could bring many long running plot threads to a nice close.

Speaking of bringing plot threads to a close....

The Jedi are used to long odds, but even these two know they need some back-up – it’s just a matter of finding the right Jedi for the job.

Who's left of the Republic team? Zao and K'Kruhk?

    ...Quin?

I've been walking these streets so long
    Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Noua
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow in the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on meeeeeeeeeee
    LIKE A RHINESTONE JEDIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

I honestly cannot see them using Quin for the "culmination" to Dass's arc- the guest star would overshadow the main character. Plus, Quin hasn't appeared in DT at all (or the Republic prelude issues for DT)- or even the recent Purge and DVAT issues.

So unless Quin's re-emergence is the next big direction for DT after Dass (and with John and Jan on DOTJ, it would seem less likely for Randy to push the character at this time), I don't see that happening.

It has to be K'Kruhk or Zao- it would make sense for these two subplots to finally cross each other's paths in a DT "finale".

Surviving Jedi from the Republic comics are Traa Saa (spelling?), Tholme, Quinlan Vos, K'Kruhk, Zao (if he survives Fire Carrier), Chase Piru (although not sure if she qualifies as a Jedi since she is still a Padawan, and if she survives Fire Carrier), Kai Hudorra, and that unknown (at least to me) Jedi human female from Into the unknown issue (on the same page where we see post Order 66 Zao and Sahdett.

Awesome looking covers. Can't wait for this. I also can't believe we're getting two Dark Times arcs in the same year! [IMG]

Well, there are other Dark Times Jedi. Kai Hudorra and Noirah Na both come to mind.

If it's not K'Kruhk, then Hudorra would make the most sense- there's even a Toola connection they could tie into K'Kruhk with somehow. Na is still too young to be a valuable asset in an attack on Vader.

Dass knows that Hudorra lives, so he can suggest him. However I think it won't be that easy to convince him to join in. He seemed pretty determined to distance himself from everything Jedi for a while.

I could see Hudorra going along with things if he isn't given a choice (ie: his cover is blown, the Empire hot on his tracks, etc). It would also make for a fitting mirror to the events in Republic of that Jedi gunned down charging the Temple doors that Hudorra witnessed.

All right. If you're going to go out, go with a bang.

I'm guessing they would keep it in the Dark Times establishment. Which means it's probably K'Kruhk or Zao, assuming Zao survives his current arc. In any case, I can't wait to see.
