Can anyone tell if this is the MRFX saber?

If you look at the coupling and the blades it suggests that it is, but I have to say that the scale SUCKS !!!!!!!

Those blades look as if someone used photoshop, but I'm not sure. The MRFX has a screw on coupler, that looks like snap together. I could easily be mistaken.

If you check http://sabers.btlinc.us/maul/maul.html it shows how when you put together the coupler it can be twisted or the way it should. Has anyone got theres yet? Any pics you can post?

I got my MR FX Maul Saber on Friday.

The coupler has the holes in it to let the sound out from the speakers which are in the ends of the hilt like all the other MR FX sabers.

It takes two sets of three AAA batteries - that's right, NOT AA batteries.

There is a bolt in the center of the coupler which you can loosen and then the two halves of the coupler can rotate - this is a great idea because it allows you to rotate one hilt to it lines up exactly with the other hilt. I found that I had to screw up the hilts fairly tightly to stop them coming undone when I was swinging the whole thing.

You also get the screw-on red crystal ends to the hilts so you can make up the separate 'battle damaged' versions.

The size and scale of it seems pretty accurate - I've got a MR LE maul hilt, and length wise its quite close - in terms of its diameter, it's thicker (like Luke's ROTJ and the new Obi-Wan ROTS) but they've made it black so it actually looks pretty good.

The red knobs nearest the emitter are the activation switches - you twist them. The blades are not linked to the switches, so they both come on separately (but that's the same as the film, after all).

Overall, it's about 7 feet long I think. I can just about swing it in my main bedroom. (I need a new light shade in there now but don't tell my girlfriend!)

I absolutely love it!! It's one of the best toys I have ever bought, and that's saying quite a lot!

The only drawbacks are obvious ones - firstly, it's huge! It's not the sort of thing that's very practical for a fancy dress party - now, if it had removably blades, that would be another story..

The other thing is, it's very heavy! Once I'd finished with it, I picked up my 6-AA Luke ROTJ FX saber, and it felt light as a feather! But I think I'm going to get used to that really quick with all the playing I'm doing with it!

I will post some pictures when I get a chance

So who is going to be the first person to bite the bullet and take the blades off? :)

Did you have to cut anything from the activation button?

    No cutting on anything.
If you look close, there is a small pin that pushes in and the red button pops off.

No joke that its a little heavier... I picked mines up yesterday, assembled it that night, went outside and started twirling it above my head and sideways - sheesh, its almost scary. With my regular wooden staff, no prob - if I drop it or it hits my head while Im spinning it, no big deal, this on the otherhand...[face_beatup]

Wow, this has been revived! And you guys already have it! I want one. But the next one I get's going to be Vader for the costume I'm working on. Then the Anakin for a Grievous I'll be working on. Then Mace so I'll have a purple. Then hopefully I can get the DM [face_praying].

The DarthMaul fx deffinatly looks worth the price. I have read a review and it described the saber to be excellent. I was wondering what anyone thought about the saber compared to the other fxs?

I've heard that unlike the Vader saber, this one's purely red. Not orange-red. I've also heard the sounds are much crisper.

With mines, the sound does sound louder - being that you're dealing with 2 speakers in the hilts (if you have the 2 joined that is). I also have the MR LE Maul replica, and the FX comes pretty close to it. I love it. Hehehe :D

There's only one real drawback I can think of: say you want to dress up as Darth Maul, and you want to wear the cloak. Well, you can have 1 saber, but it'd be cut in half. And with the cloak on, I doubt you want to have a 7ft. saber in your hands. Obviously the LE replica isn't the same exact size, so that wouldn't work (besides, it'd never join right). So what would one do?

I agree. But since Im only 5'6", I wouldn't have even 1 of his saber on me since it'll drag on the ground anyways...o_O

I guess that's when hasbro comes in. BTW, is there a Darth Maul electronic saber? I know they make the crappy ones that don't do anything.

I've got an electronic Maul saber, Fett-man. Just a regular plastic toy one.

Yeah, Hasbro made some ones around EP1. They were before they went all fat and short too, so they didn't suck nearly as much.

Yup, that's exactly the case. It's not too bad compared to the other plastic ones I've seen.

You know, now that I'm tapping into the early part of my memory, I think I recall owning one of those when I was like 9. Didn't last very long, but it was good while it lasted. The ones they make today just flat out suck. And I've noticed they're now making the same sabers, but with different colors.

Anakin in green? Qui-Gon in red? Heck, even saw a TPM Obi-wan in purple! It's just insane.

Well the reason is that hasbro released the "Basic hilts" with blades that retract all the way into the hilt is that its cheap easy and people will buy them. The best ones are the charecters sabers that light up have sounds and other options. The DarthMaul toy saber looks awsome but the ebay price keeps getting higher and higher..... Soon it will be cheaper to buy th fx saber LOL.

Boy, and that's when it gets really bad for the kids! [face_laugh] I guess those 'eletronic sabers' don't fully retract, do they? They're also probably over-sized.

Well now that Maul's FX saber is out, my Maul costume looks more complete.
