Filoni said tyey might or might not reveal Darth Maul's real name. However, according The Wrath of Darth Maul and Darth Plagueis, Maul IS his real name.
If they had stuck to his original origin story (kidnapped as child/orphan) he would indeed properly not have one, but since he must have had some name his fellow Zabraks from Dathomir () called him before he became a Sith Lord, he properly has one.
That's what you think now. Then Lucas will be like, "You know what was great? Happy Days. Let's name him Fonzie Opress." And then he'll be like, "So, I think I should give Palpatine a first name. Gilligan Palpatine. Make it happen. Maybe like an episode where his mom's calling him on the phone, and she's calling him Gilligan and he hates it. Yeah, that's funny. That's humor right there. The kids'll love that." And then you'll be longing for the days of Maul Opress.
Nah, the first episode of Detours is about Gilligan and his main man Pesty watching a pilot episode of this new holodoc thing called The Clone Wars that Gilligan hopes will be all the rage with the kids and paint him as the real People's Emp he knows he is.
I must be Frank, there are better names for His Imperial Majesty than Gilligan. But a PR-campaign for old HIM in Detours, that would be great. He worries so much about the common people his forehead is full of wrinkles.
Palpatine's first name is "Cos". His majesty, Emperor Cosinga II. Palpatine of Skyriver to Imperial Center.
I've always wondered what his real name is. Looks like they have that in mind in the near future cause he said they are not willing to share that info yet.
In Darth Plagueis, Palpatine asks Maul's mother what his name is and she replies, "Maul". I made this thread because I found it strange that Filoni ignored a book published in 2012.
I hope they will bring back Qui-Gon as a clone and then he will tell Anakin and Obi-Wan Darth Maul's real name.
Despite the show's track record leaving me with no logical reasoning to base it on, I have this feeling that Filoni's answer wasn't so much a bit of foreshadowing that a new name for Maul was on the horizon, but him dancing around the issue that Darth Plagueis had already covered his name and he wasn't really interested in contradicting that. I mean, considering the relationship the show has with the EU, I don't very well expect him to say "Oh, for that question, you can look no further than James Luceno's Darth Plagueis novel...", especially not when most of these questions seem to be coming from kids who probably wouldn't read Plagueis anyway. That's just my hope, though.
