My only problem with it is that it looks uncomfortable (head like that, hands there and legs like this... Now stand on your toes).

Vader's crotch-shots at least look natural.

It'd maybe be slightly more forgivable if that actually was C-3PO, but it's a "new" character. And a new kind of lazy.

Ehhhhh, it's a Larroca thing. I'd never tell someone they were wrong for disliking it, but after reading dozens and dozens of his comics you get used to it. I mean, it could be worse--he could be Greg Land.

True, you don't want to imagine this cover re-done Land-style.

(Sad to say before he adopted his infamous style of the last few years, Land was a very good artist.)

Infrequent comics readers don't really get the full effect of this, but you get to the top tier of artists, and you've basically got three options--consistent but idiosyncratic, heavy photo-reference, or interminable slowness.

Or the Franco-Belgian option - 1 album of 48-72 pages a year, but the pages look good!

I'd categorize that under "interminable slowness". :p

Given that protocol droids literally roll off an assembly line and are frequently indistinguishable from each other save color, I'm going to call that one forgivable.

Yeah, it's not really a new phenomenon.

It's ironic, since C-3PO definitely didn't. And an in-universe explanation doesn't excuse lazy tracing. This isn't fan art.

That seems to be quite common in American comics nowadays, but it really isn't the kind of thing you see in Europe. As far as I'm concerned, I prefer artists who sometimes go off model rather than those who depend too much on photographic evidence to render a satisfying likeness... In some of the DH comics (most notably Star Wars Purge and the Republic issue drawn by Luke Ross), Palpatine was often the most traced character ever... Sometimes, it's really jarring, because the artists traces pictures from both ROTS and ROTJ in the same issue; ironically, the consequence is that the character looks off model half the time.

You'd be hard pressed to tell that simply by looking at him. Episodes 1 and 2 excluded, obviously.
I'm not offering an explanation, in-universe or out. Simply saying it's forgivable under the circumstances.

In any case, I'm not going to waste time frowning at the cover. I'm looking forward to seeing what's inside the book. The art's fine, but the writing is where this series is cooking on all burners right now.

So far, this series seems to be making a considerable effort to connect the OT and PT eras. Not just in regards to Darth Vader's past, but also in regards to the Separatists, etc. juding by the cover of issue #4, which portrays battle droids, and the last issue, which had modified Droidekas.

I'm hopeful that we'll see some IG-88 in this series, seeing as we know nothing about him in the NU. I'd rather they not go with the Droid Revolution for his motivation, though.

Indeed. A droid deciding to be a bounty hunter was an interesting and unique concept and then Therefore I Am ruined it with, "Nope, just another robot revolt story."

I liked the search for an identity/existential contemplation aspect of it, but I think that it would probably work just as well with him just being a bounty hunter.

I liked him in Marvel Star Wars (which had him and Bossk working together before and after ROTJ).

Didn't they have another Protocol Droid right behind C-3PO and R2 on the Tantive 4? And one on Cloud City? I really don't see the problem with an Imperial C-3PO.

Sometimes a not-very-evil voice can be even more creepy in the context of the actions:

Yes can be creepy, but funny too. Imagining C3-PO in killer assassin mode.
I am not saying it would be bad though. Palpatine as a Senator had a kind voice and was evil.
The not so obvious villains are dangerous.
