I'll take my bootleg version any day -- you can bet the licensed release won't have the Muppets or Donnie Osmond.

Actually, I was just thinking that we should have a Christmas party at our house so we can make everyone see this on a 10' screen. Think of the awesomeness of the music numbers in all of their glory enlarged to 10 feet...

It looks like it isn't actually scheduled for release. The Target website has almost zilch on it, just a short mention of Amazon.com. The Amazon page has the following to say:

The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)

Availability: NOT YET RELEASED: The studio is currently not producing this title on DVD, but to be notified when it is available, enter your e-mail address at right. You'll also be voting for this release; we'll let the studio know how many customers are waiting for this title.

I would recommend heading over to the amazon webpage, though, for the entertainment of the reviews and opinions submitted thus far.
