Sorry, but this deserves its own thread.....

Person wearing Darth Vader mask robs Springfield theater
May 22, 2005 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) ? Authorities say they haven't made any arrests in last night's robbery of a Springfield movie theater.
Springfield police Lieutenant Dave Dodson says a man wearing a Darth Vader mask walked into the Showplace Eight theater around nine-15 p-m last night. He says the man shoved an employee out of the way and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash before running out of the theater and into a nearby wooded area.

    No weapons were displayed.

Dodson says no arrests have been made and police do not have any suspects.

Among the movies playing at Showplace Eight is "Star Wars: Episode Three-Revenge of the Sith."

Well, this is always unwelcomed news and this is the
    sort of thing was mentioned
    at C3 at a 501st presentation,
where Albin spoke of concerns over anyone in a
Star Wars outfit generating negative press.

I suggest this link for those who may have
any info/help to offer or co-ordinate, or wish to
    send words of encouragement.

These guys are in the Springfield, IL. area and are
just now trying to start up a fan club and a 501st club.......and this kind of bad news is the last
    thing they need.

Well, I'd doubt that it was a guy in a $3,500 custom Darth Vader costume...and probably a redneck in a T-Shirt and a $25.00 Target Vader voice changer mask.

Though this story doesn't seem to be have been made into a big deal nationally, I suppose something like this could end up making theaters and other venues refuse masked characters into their facilities.

When we were at C3, the Mall security would stop anyone travelling through to the convention wearing a mask and make them take it off. I know it's a felony in some states to wear a mask in public over the age of 13. I'm sure that this is more so they can slam an armed robber with another felony charge than to go chasing evil costumers around.
