Darth Vader should he have turned back ot the good side?

    His redemption is the climactic moment of the entire OT, so yeah. Maybe, the story could have gone in a different direction with him not turning good, but I like it the way it is.

    Originally, we and Luke were lead to believe that Vader had killed Anakin. Thus, we figured two things. Number one, the climax of the story would be Luke confronting Vader. And number two, Luke would kill him to avenge his father's death. Making Vader and Anakin one and the same added an interesting twist to their relationship, and created a big obstable for Luke, which, IMHO, makes it a much more satisfying end. Rather than kill Darth Vader, he has to realize that he has the potential to become Darth Vader, and he has to deal with the consequences of those temptations in his father. Rather than confront Vader with the evil he has done, he confronts him with the good man he once was. Having Vader redeemed proved two things. Number one, the heroes are not infallible, and two, villains who were once heroes are not without compassion.
