So, it seems that Vader's legacy is a pretty big deal in the new trilogy of Star Wars. Given Ren's obsessiveness with Vader, it seems that Vader, at least as he is seen by the heroes' enemies, may still be causing trouble for the Galaxy Far Far Away. It also seems that if the PT was the Rise of Darth Vader and the OT his Fall, then the ST may be something like the Legacy of Darth Vader. A big point of the ST might be the galaxy that Darth Vader created, for while Palps was the Emperor, Darth Vader was the enforcer conquering planets from afar, leading the assault, and striking fear into the hearts of many. Palps was the head, but Vader made things run in the Empire.

Knowing this, Vader seems to have become a symbol. What he did and didn't do, who he was, may have been exaggerated or twisted. Either way, Vader seems to be a diety as far as at least Kylo Ren is concerned. It is interesting that Kylo Ren is wearing monk-like robes, which could mean that he's something of a warrior monk like the Knights Templar. A religious crusader. It should also be noted that during the Dark Ages, prophets started their own cults and people declared themselves to be the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Perhaps this is at least partly what Kylo Ren is inspired by. It may very well be the case as we live in an age where people are more than familiar with religious extremism.

Please give your thoughts on the topic.

Edit: Locking since as pointed out below there is already a thread on this topic.

My guess is that Vader's genocide of the Jedi will likely be what he is most remembered for. That's what Ren means when he says he is going to finish what Vader started -- he will kill the remainder of the Jedi. It was Vader, after all, who led the March on the Jedi Temple and it was Vader who killed Obi-Wan on the Death Star.

It doesn't seem like Palpatine's powers were very well known in the galaxy at large (based on what Yoda and Obi-Wan tell Luke) so I imagine that Vader was primarily seen as the enemy of the Sith.

Ren's going to have a major conflict with Luke, that's for sure. He may even be hunting Luke down to kill off the Jedi once and for all and destroy the man who he believes killed his idol.

Or Vader's legacy could be, topple the corrupt leader of an Empire by hurling him down a reactor shaft. Perhaps we are viewing it all from the wrong angle and Ren has a different agenda.
