    Obsidian Crisis

    Prologue

Richard Grayson, also known as Nightwing, stood in front of the main table in the JLA Watchtower, his fists seemingly embedding themselves into the fake wood of the table. The League he now led had managed to defeat the sea witch Gramaymeade and sever her control over Atlantis and the Earth's water supply. It was a huge victory but one that had come at a great personal cost.

They had not been able to save the Original Justice League.

They had given their life-forces and souls in the fight against the sea witch while Nightwing's League, handpicked by Batman, had gone back in time like the original League had. Only this time, more successful at putting things right in Atlantis' past, saving both Aquaman, and their present in the process. Nightwing had managed to return to the present just in time to see the 'ghost' forms of the original League fade away; their bodies turn to dust. Just like that, they were gone.

"I didn't even get a chance to say good - bye," Dick thought, the events of the last few weeks seemingly catching up to the young superhero, taunting and tormenting him. It was feeling more and more like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.

"Was this how Bruce felt? Like everything was up to him?"

I hate to interrupt your grief - induced brooding, Nightwing?" Jason Blood's voice pierced Dick's thoughts, "but decisions need to be made and soon."

"Do they have to be now?" Nightwing spoke for the first time in what seemed like days, his voice sounding strained and almost child - like from the effort of just that one sentence.

"Not all of them," Blood admitted, "but as it pertains to the League yes. There are some questions that need to be decided soon about where the Justice League goes from here. Or infact if there should even be a League. With the original League gone, there maybe some reluctance on the part of the various governments on this planet about leaving the safety of Earth in the hands of, in the public's view, at least, an untried group of heroes. Particularly given Aquaman's situation."

It took Dick all he had to avoid clenching his fists again at Jason's words. Truth of the matter was, Blood did have a point about the public's perceptions about the state of the superhero community with a majority of its legendary heroes now gone. It was made even more precarious by Atlantis' decision to try Aquaman for treason.

Dick was well aware that some hard decisions would have to be made soon. Not the least of which was what would become of Gotham City with Batman gone. But on the subject of the League, or a Justice League, Dick was firm. For the newly minted Leader, there was no other course.

"The League will live on," Nightwing said, his voice strong, his body straight and tall as he looked Blood in the eye. "It's what they would've wanted."

"It's what he would have wanted."

With that, both men stood facing out one of the windows of the watchtower that was while the sun set over the area where Gotham City was.

    End Prologue.

Seems we both enjoy killing Bruce and having Dick as a main character.:p
Very intrigued so far. Just who are the new members of the League?:)

    O:)

In the original Obsidian Age comic that this story is based on, it was Nightwing as the leader of the JL, Jason Blood/Etrigon, Green Arrow, Atom, Zatanna, Tempest, Hawkgirl, Major Disaster, and the mysterious Faith. This story is going to jump a few years ahead of the prologue beginning in the next chapter and as such I'll be making some of my own changes to the Justice League line up. But Nightwing will still be the head of the League.
