The index has been updated once more.

I am considering making a little change in the index. My eyes sometimes have trouble focusing on seeing the titles of the diaries when I'm editing the index, mainly because the titles tend to be in different places on the line... some of them are even on a second line on the edit page. To make it easier to find, I was thinking of numbering the diaries 1 - ? for each era. So when you update, you also give the number in the era as well as a link to the diary (you won't be penalized for not giving the number... I'm not that anal :p ). I'm running it by all of you to see what you think.

You can also just put the title first and everything else behind that.;)
And 'accidenatally' kick some submissions out to shorten the lists. j/k[face_laugh]

The thing is, the hyperlinks are part of what makes it hard to do that. Some are much longer than others.

And 'accidenatally' kick some submissions out to shorten the lists. j/k
 Shame on you for even joking about that! [face_shame_on_you] :p

Truth to tell, I've already accidentally kicked some submissions into the "terminated" list (caught my error before anyone realized though... I hope)

I think you should just do what you need to do, to make indexing easier. I can imagine it's a rather complicated job.
Numbering sounds good to me. :)

Yep, if that makes it easier, go for it!

I like MsLanna's idea. I'd probably put it something like this:

[title] by [author] (last updated [date]) - [key words]

Master! You are here! I thought you were away... Mod colors during St. Patty's day confuse me.

I agree with whatever you need to do to make it eaiser on you, Alexis! Putting a number with our PM updates isn't that hard... it might take a few times to remember but I'm sure we'll get the hang of it! :)

I know this is a big job with a lot of work but you are doing awesome at it! [:D]

Instead of numbering diaries, I'd try a layout that I use on the Qui-Gon index. Put the part with the date on a separate line. So, instead of this:

    --------------------------------
    A Warrior without a cause, by CPL_Macja, updated 3/4/09

Diary of Kaagi Adin, by earlybird-obi-wan, updated 3/8/09

Diary this is, by earlybird-obi-wan, updated 3/8/09

Day to Day Adventures - The diary of Liam Nafeel by Jedi-Gon, updated 2/13/09

Forbidden Love: Obi-wan and Siri, by CrystalSaber_1, updated 2/23/09
    --------------------------------

    You would have this:

    --------------------------------
    A Warrior without a cause, by CPL_Macja
    updated 3/4/09

Diary of Kaagi Adin, by earlybird-obi-wan
    updated 3/8/09

    Diary this is, by earlybird-obi-wan
    updated 3/8/09

Day to Day Adventures - The diary of Liam Nafeel by Jedi-Gon
    updated 2/13/09

Forbidden Love: Obi-wan and Siri, by CrystalSaber_1
    updated 2/23/09
    --------------------------------

Putting the part that you need to change, the date, on a separate line makes it much easier to see. And if you number the diaries, that will make the diaries that may drop out over the year stand out more unless you re-number them.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unless I put the title first and just put the links separate from the title though, it doesn't matter if I put it first or not. I don't really like the look of having the link separate though. What I see right now when I'm trying to update in the edit screen is usually something like this:

    {link=http/garblediegookurlfortitleinoneoftheerathreads]Title of Diary Goes Here[/link], {color=green]by {b]Name of Author[/b], updated DATE[/color]

    {link=http/garblediegookofanimpossiblylongurlforadifferenttitleinyetanotherthreadthatleadstoarandompageforthatstory]]Title of Next Diary Here[/link], {color=green]by {b]Name of Author[/b], updated DATE[/color]

So, even without the keywords being first, it can be confusing. The numbering system just seems the easiest for me. I do like the idea of putting the date on a separate line though; great idea.

    Don't worry so much. Adfter half a year of daily updates, the index is ingrained in your memory and you just know. 8-}

Unfortunately, i have a very good memory for tiny and useless info. Doing the indexes for two years did probably not improve on the state of my head.[face_laugh]

    And I'm not scary.[face_not_talking]

Lazy made a website that lists fanfics by various different criteria, including author.

This is the 'Before' page for my fanfics. All the links are the same length and are quite short. Maybe I could go through the diaries and get the links from there for you?

The ingenious link machine Lazy made hasn't updated since October of last year, and I don't think Lazy's been on since December.

Okay, so they aren't so shiny. :p I had more time than I thought I would this morning, so I went ahead and numbered the index. Take note everyone, each era starts with 1; so, when you PM me with the link for your update, say which era and number. For example:

    Saga, 193

    Gee, I'm so glad there aren't 193 diaries in saga! [face_hypnotized] 8-}

Oh no! Now could I only find out about this when its 3 months in? Mind you, I only joined in Feb so I still wouldn't have been able to enter. Never mind, there's always next year. Besides, I can look them all up, read them, and get some good ideas. One question- are you allowed to write about characters who have had their destinies changed ?
(eg. a Luke Skywalker who is training under Darth Vader)
ie. simular to the format of the Star Wars infinities books

You can have your diary be about anything as long as it's tied to Star Wars (if it's in one of the SW fanfic forums, that is). Alternate universes have been done in diary format before, and there are some in progress now.

    IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

Okay, I'm putting this in full color so no one misses it. ;)

From now on, when you PM the sock with your updates, please use the numbering system I described in my last post, i.e. putting in era and number with your links... though there are those who still don't give links. [face_plain]
