    I asked him if he ever remembered his mother. He said he only has some impressions and he doesn't even know if those are wishful thinking of what she might be like, but he rather hoped she were a little like my own mother had been.

    that is a very sweet conversation.

    I think for all they have been willing to speak with me about on a private level, there are shadows in Master Dooku's eyes I have never seen there before.

    Shadows of the Dark Side perhaps? ;)

    but when he slung me over his shoulder and began walking around like that with my butt in the air I wasn't too thrilled. He of course found it hilariously funny.

    [face_laugh] As do I. :p

    That is of course until I goosed him.

    :eek:

    [face_shame_on_you]

    :p

    I guess I can't complain, sounds like he had it coming.

    Great update!

    I love granny being gone over Master Dooku. What a pair!

    I love her being a habit like brushing your teeth.

    Mere is so sweet especially pulling on Qui-Gons padawan braid.

    Blaster lessons sound like fun.

    Slowly catching up.

    Good work

    RK_Stryker: You know thanks for coming to take the time to save me from a fate worse than death! I appreciate the kindness given your busy schedule.@};-

    Deiana: Certainly. Thanks for reading!@};-

    Araxie: It was a good conversation huh? Thanks for coming by... don't let the little ones wear you out!@};-

    Ish-I figured that would be the sort of way he would help. It would mean a great deal more to Noela and the challenges she faces if he can do something to make things go easier to a degree. Thanks for reading hun.@};-

    BrentusofGath: I just KNEW.. I mean knew that you would catch that of anyone reading! I think I might have written it just for you..lol Thanks for reading. (yes he did have it coming!)@};-

    Lea-El- Yes we like Noela's grandmamma and Count Dooku being friends. The Ovorp family is the sort of people he wouldn't look down his patrician nose at!. Mostly that is. Mere is sweet and she grows up to be quite a handful. In the best sense of course. Thank you for the effort I know it is to catch up. I appreciate you are giving me time and attention. @};-

    ~~~
    It was so good to get home! I know that this little 'test' was just the beginning of my challenges and I was glad to have it and even more excited for what it portends for my future career. I felt like I had a month of grime under my nails and my skin was in need of some tender-loving care.
    I confess I spent a day just getting pampered and trying to find the girl underneath the capable person I figured out to be during my time away. Grandmamma was on Coruscant with Mere, who is so adorable walking around and getting into everything. That meant we were also able to kidnap my other sisters and head to the local markets for food so grandmother could cook some of our favorites.
    That led to the further adventure of baking our family cookies to send off to Qui-Gon. Being that this particular delicacy of my grandmother's was just that-delicate, I fully expect that when they arrive with the package of helioballs, toy speeders and the pretend Queen-of-Naboo crowns for any little girls Qui-Gon might come across, all that will be left will be crumbs.
    Right now I am back in classes for more understanding of how diplomacy should work. There is this myth that all you really need to do is get the different peoples to talk. I am not so convinced. That is going to assume that both sides see things in essentially the same way. A prime example of how that can be lethal to one side or the other, is the Jedi and the Sith.
    Talking was never going to make a spot of difference in the Sith need for power and rule of everything that moved.
    However I will take the classes. I will have to depend on what Qui-Gon always advises. Study the situation and then go with the option that seems the most correct.
    ~~~

    I know why they wanted me to take the classes. Mind you I am about to give a history lesson, the true history as opposed to the one that our sometimes faulty media portray. This is important because I believe that they are grooming me to work with this particular thorny problem of galactic history.

    There has long been an ugly situation of a people that had been enslaved and then dispersed through the galaxy. The other groups on their home world that worked with the conquerers for some unfathomable reason coveted the land held by the Sameneh, have of course took over and began to claim the sacred sites and history as their own.

    I don't really have time to go into the long and complex history of how abused this group has been. The worst part of it is that often they are their own worst enemy, not in the terms that popular opinion has about their 'sins' but the real truth that they have often colaborated with those that would have destroyed them. Still there was the faction determined to get back to their home. With that in mind and following the almost complete obliteration of this people a few decades ago in one of the places they thought they had

    That Tahl needs a smack in the face.

    Soon after Qui-Gon came back and blissfully ignorant of the feelings brewing underneath, looked 'happy' that we were seemingly getting on so well.

    And Mungo and his 'Living Force' can't figure out what's brewing right under the surface?

    He's hankerin for a butt-kicking.

    Araxie: I fear sometimes Noela will be in a perpetual state of frustrations! Thanks for reading.

    Brentus:As I said to you I figure that even being devastatingly talented in the force does not necessarily mean a man would be good at understanding women. That would make him too much of a superman!

    Lea-ElI am glad you managed to catch up and that you like this little diary. Thanks so much and indeed I will!

    ~~~~
    I have kept very busy.
    On top of the research and now the report the delegation wishes me to file, I am taking a class at a time towards an advanced degree. As I don't know that I will ever finish at the rate I am going, but at least some of what I am doing will be good practice. As it stand now all rough drafts I have turned in have been so mangled, it is unrecognizable as any work I have done.
    The hilarious part is that they always tell me I am doing a great job.
    The real part of diplomacy is understanding the ninety-nine percent of everything you need to leave out and remembering the critical one percent you have to leave in.
    The truth is I almost wish I had Master Dooku to fall back on, but he and Qui-Gon are off planet on a 'short' mission, whatever that means in Jedispeak. The man is brilliant at getting beings together on those times he isn't causing a civil war. Besides he and Qui-Gon were there. I got brave and sent him a message along with the one I sent Qui-Gon. Perhaps he will help me out with a few observations that might be helpful.
    Right now I have a very much needed break. I am heading out for another session with my personal care technician. Interesting name for the person that makes sure I am presentable at all times. I remember my mother and grandmother making visits like these when I was a child and how much I wanted to go with. Now I would give anything to avoid it, because it is frequently painful to be semi-presentable. Waxing is a word that forevermore will cause me to break out in a cold sweat. The one bright spot is that my sisters come with me on excuse that they will support me in the cause of being well-groomed.
    The other thing that is amazing is how much scuttlebutt you learn there! All the partners of all the really important people frequent such places and for some reason forget the technicians are all able to hear and transmit information. I can't begin to tell you how much I hear there from what place diplomat is selling information to what faction, to who is now forming relationships with whom.
    Most of the time, if you are smart you file such things away for later. It took a couple of mistakes for me to learn that discretion is by far the better part of valor. Fortunately all I managed to do was to get a couple of high-placed marriage into counseling and not cause a another war or something worse because of saying something I shouldn't.
    ~~~

    Qui-Gon and Master Dooku have returned home, and just in time for the Chancellor's New Year Ball. I was told I was expected to go as a guest this time and not and aide. Since I have had experience in my past as the blind date on a diplomatic event, I was perfect for this. In other words someone stamped 'sucker' on my head the first day I worked at the embassy and the reputation continues. My last blind date was a Jedi. This time it is one of the princes of the Antilles family.

    Fortunately they gave me a generous stipend for my gown and other preparations. I also have collected a personal handler. Sometimes I wonder if I am working towards politics or a career in the holoindustry. I don't think Ciel has to go through this and she is actually seen on vid screens.

    Still I had to love the result of what I looked like by the time the Prince's personal butler came to escort me to the speeder. I haven't yet been able to figure out how they got my hair into such an elaborate coil or find the particular gown I

    Yeah, women sure stick together when it's time to go the beauty parlor, lol!

    In other words someone stamped 'sucker' on my head the first day I worked at the embassy and the reputation continues.

    LOL, she shouldn't think like that, it's sad, lol, funny, but sad, lol!

    but the Master was more than willing to take me out to the dance floor. He was amazing at ballroom and he was at his most charming for the evening.

    Of course, Dooku is suave, sophisticated, debonare, etc. etc. If he wasn't so old, the chicks would go wild for him. ;)

    but Master Dooku is not in his sphere of influence.

    He's too cultured to stay a Jedi. Now the Sith, they have some smooth operators, lol!

    I had time to think about what it was that Master Dooku might have been saying to me.

    In his own stylish, cultured way he's been saying the same thing I've been saying, "Smack that Tahl right in the mouth!" LOL

    A grand update!

    Lea-El: You did get first post! I like to think there were a great many years when Dooku was a brave and good man for the Republic. Snobbery seemed to be his downfall, and who knows where the turning to that worst part of his nature began. Noela has a way of eventually landing on her feet. :) Thanks for reading

    BrentusofGath: yes girls do tend to like getting to feel .. well special. That is what all that sort of thing is about so the Ovorp sisters would be all over that. We often think sad and funny things about ourselves. At this point Dooku is.. probably as old as...... younger than 35 :) He just is rather intimidating for our girl. And yes in his cultured way what is probably exactly what he is saying! Thanks for reading despite all those other things. :)

    Araxie: Thanks sis :)

    Ish: Well I had do something while you were gone to entertain myself! Now of course I just bash you into writing things. :)

    ~~~~
    I am sneaking moment here and there to write this. It is more than likely a ridiculous thing that will get me killed.
    I am in the hands of the insurgents, but it is by my choice.
    Elis and I could hear them going from room to room saying something to the effect that they knew there was at least one woman, and so 'she' must be in hiding. Elis and I were working to find something even just a old rusty dumbwaiter to climb into when we hit exactly the answer. In a forgotten closet there was a small passageway we assumed was used by workers and droids to take care of the ventilation and electrical systems in the building.
    I helped Elis in first as her getting up into the crawl space was a little more tricky due to her age. She is a fine woman just not athletically inclined and a little attached to her desserts. I can't blame her, as I love those too, it just put me in the strange position of being the fit one of the pairing. Just as she was moving further into the shaft I heard people in the next room. I didn't dare move, afraid I would so something to call attention to where we were. It was imperative that one of us make it out of here to get some help.
    I was sure that they would soon come to find me in the closet and so I placed something in front of the small crawl space. I stayed huddled there in the dark praying that Elis would not come back when she noticed I was not right behind her.
    I heard the footsteps fade away and thought that would be my moment to finally follow Elis, when I heard a horrendous crash in another room. I honestly worried that somehow Elis had taken a wrong turn. When footsteps came closer I made a snap decision and burst out of the closet.
    Rough hands grabbed my arms and pulled me further into the hallway. "One is here, my lord."
    Another figure came and stood before me. Oddly he wasn't a very large man and even with the beard he didn't have the prepossessing sort of authority that even Master Yoda has. On the other hand there was something very menacing.
    "Ah, I see the one we found is the little flower. Where is the other woman and where is Senator Antilles?"
    I could only answer what was truth, from that certain point of view. I had no idea. I prayed my face would not give me away. I prayed further they would remain stupid and not look further than me for an answer as to the mysterious noises that brought me from my hiding place.
    The man, Dinijad if I remember my facts correctly, looked amused, as if he knew there was more to the story.
    The amusement was stripped from his face when one of his men slapped me across the face.
    I remember thinking at that moment that in all of my life I had never been treated in such a way. The shock of the moment brought tears to my face, but I honestly didn't feel any pain, just a certain amount of rage!
    My blessing was that in that instance there was the stray thought that my Qui-Gon had been trained to deal with this. He had dealt with far worse than a stinging cheek. If he could deal with all of that, then I could deal with this and keep my acerbic tongue in cheek.
    Amazing
    As to the rest you will see. ;) Thanks for reading!
    ~~~~

    That man is so infuriating.

    On the other hand the speed with which my courageous show crashed and burned to ignominy is astounding.

    After my wonderfully dramatic declaration, Dinijad nodded to his henchmen which included Mr. Slap-me-across-the-Face, and they gagged my mouth and popped a blindfold over my eyes, and I was tosssed over some big shoulder like that sack of laundry and out I went.

    Seeing that I had practice in this position previously and also seeing that it was the only power I had, I am sure you can guess what I did.

    I managed to time it well enough that as they were handing me over to my rescuers with the hordes of holoshill just waiting for picture of some sort of massacre, I goosed a proud man of a very patriarchal society.

    Of course they explained later that if there had not already been a very serious diplomatic situation that could have really made things difficult. Of course I had to point out that I wouldn't have been in that position without the diplomatic situation that Dinijad and his force had put us in.

    It played well with the public. It seems that they are often tired of people playing lip service to getting things done.

    It also seems that their play to make me seem in more of a fragile position with the gag and the blindfold made them look even less well with the public at hand.

    As well as that seemed to be going I was still worried about the other members of my team left in the hotel. I had seen what Dinijad thought of as mercy.

    At some point after this I am going to have to find a counselor to talk with, but if I stop to think about what I saw I will be very ill.

    ~~~~
    After I had a little to drink, and was offered and refused anything to eat, the security forces sent by the republic stopped to debrief me. The captain was serious and professional, and more than a little frustrated that it was a mere girl he had to work with. I did my best to pay attention to what he was asking and answer with only the most pertinent information.
    They brought out the maps of the building and we went over where I thought we were when Elis was in the shaft, and where she might have managed to leave the building. I realized of course that they had been over this with her and the Senator, but I guess they were double and triple checking their facts for some sort of plan.
    They seemed to be waiting for something and when another group came in by speeder I realized it was because they were waiting for Jedi.
    There was the tiniest hope that it might be someone I knew. Even Tahl might have been a welcome sight, but it was a group of two Masters and a Padawan. I do have to say that it is a relief to see them no matter which set of knights show up. Somehow you just have to believe the best for everyone is possible.
    Someone finally took pity on me and took me to somewhere that I could wash up and get a nap. Part of me feels guilty about that there are people I care about on some level that are still in trouble, but there doesn't seem to be a great deal I can do now so I better take some time to relax while I can.
    ~~~~

    I don't think I was asleep more than about a few hours when someone was shaking me awake.

    Apparently the Jedi managed to sneak in, and get the prisoners out. I believe someone said something about "aggressive negotiations." I won

    Apparently the Jedi managed to sneak in, and get the prisoners out. I believe someone said something about "aggressive negotiations." I wonder if that is taught as Strategy 101 at the temple?

    I love how this phrase shows up in stories. I find it rather humorous, particularly from a diplomats point of view.

    She said now is the time to read all those trashy holonovels instead of trying to live one. I told her not to quit her day job to be a comedian.

    Maybe a copy of Dawn of Desire? Or just some really good not so trashy Lynn Kurland?

    I suppose that a girl with a red nose, watery eyes and a constant hacking cough is just not someone you worry can seduce your Padawan.
