Ehhh I'm pretty open minded but even I'm questioning showing that full content in theaters. There's something wrong with watching porn with a bunch of strangers you don't know. Hopefully the NC-17 version is just on dvd or something.

Just caught Good Morning America. They apparently are already starting filming on this.

 

But what about Showgirls?!

 

That's because you're not used to watching movies in theaters on 42nd Street in New York City of the 1970s.

 

I just watched Blue is the Warmest Color, which is the first NC-17 movie I've seen in a theater. It's hardly a porn; it's three hours long and the three really explicit sex scenes are all within about forty five minutes in the exact middle of the movie (though there are two R rated ones earlier in the movie). Still seven minutes of two completely nude lesbians performing oral sex on each other with *ahem* copious sound effects is awkward in a room full of strangers. The scissoring scene is mercifully shorter. I think it's supposed to be erotic and, in France, it probably is, but I'm an American. I may not be a prude, but I'm still an American and it was very awkward sitting through that. Still, I don't expect Grey to have the emotional and artistic value of Blue. But Blue definitely deserved it's NC-17. Easily the most graphic sex I've seen in a non-pornographic movie.

 

Maybe it'll be like Bad Lieutenant, or, hilariously, The Evil Dead? They have sex and then dismember themselves.





Oh good heavens it's the holidays. Why the hell am I saying these things?

 

Nobody went to see "Showgirls", except the pervs.

Imagine going in there with black lights replacing the normal lights. You'd get an eyeful.

 

Like it or not, Showgirls is the highest grossing NC17 film of all time.

It's also a universally loathed flop.

 

Was Showgirls not released to mainstream theaters? NC-17s typically aren't, but it seems to me that Showgirls was. I caught Blue is the Warmest Color at a local indie theater.

 

"Showgirls" was given a wide theatrical release in mainstream cinemas. It was the first one to do so. I grew up in a small town and had to travel ten miles to a larger town, which had two movie theaters. It played at the theater with four screens, which also showed "Seven" that same weekend.

 

Lead actress in the movie says she has no shame.

Sorta figured that out from the fact she accepted the casting.

 

Well, she is Melanie Griffith's and Don Johnson's daughter, they were sort of the king and queen of no shame back in their day.

I wasn't aware there was even enough of an actual plot for their to be a villain. I mean, antagonist? Let's get back to the spanking, wat?

I was actually kind of surprised to see that Dakota Johnson seems to be actually giving something like a real performance in the trailer. I mean, I gather the character is supposed to be naive and shy, but that so rarely actually gets communicated in movies like this. The guy . . . I was not impressed with his acting skills.

 

There is a villain, yeah. They had to put a horrible man in that story to make Gray look like a good guy so he "saves" the girl. That classic manipulative jive.

 

Yeah... I can't begin to imagine sitting in a packed theater watching this, and I'm very open minded. Sitting in the dark with a hundred strangers watching soft porn doesn't sound like a good time, to me.

I think you guys need to do a double feature of the Christian one and 50 Shades in one evening. That would be incredibly memorable, I would imagine.
