What's the next best thing other than destroying a world and it's resources? Sending them back into the stone age would be a good weapon, if you ask me. An EMP weapon on a new and huge Star Destroyer type of ship would be different - a ship reminiscent of the size and scope of the Emperor's flagship, the Eclipse. A weapon that would short out all technology on a planet with one blast isn't something that we've seen before in any other movie, either.

I don't know if I would like to see a weapon could destroy an entire star system with one hit. Something like the Star Forge was that could restore the former Imperial Fleet back to its former glory for a reconquest of the galaxy. I don't think another Death Star style super laser needs to be the center of the plot again.

I know I'm going to get flayed for this since it is EU, but this draws on the concept above by DARTHVENGERDARTHSEAR. The Yuuzhan Vong were so dedicated to non-robotics and non-metallics that they actually had Vongforming bacteria that would devour permacrete and such, taking that area back to a natural state. Their weapons were snakes that had been grown to be able to become rod-straight on command. Their body armor was similar to Darth Bane's Orbalisks. Their ships had as its propulsion a creature that could create a gravity well to pull it to its destination. That same creature could use that gravity well to suck in any detected weaponry, even energy-based. All living creatures designed and bred to serve them. That can be pretty formidable when a culture is not used to dealing with it.

What's wrong with the Sun Crusher is best summarized in this post:

    More interesting SW > bigger.

    That might work.

This conversation makes me think of George Carlin's idea for a roach spray that doesn't kill the roaches but instead fills them with self-doubt as to whether or not they're in the right house.

That was, more or less, the super weapon in Abram's first Star Trek.

"Destroys suns" (in various forms) is fairly common in sci-fi. The Sun Crusher was one EU weapon of this kind - but it wasn't the only one.

"turning suns into black holes" is a lot less common though.

I would like to see invasions with star destroyers then some WWII type internment camps. Huge ships that are huge flying concentration camps...that land and begin processing ....true evil

The Star Wars Empire comic arc "In the Shadow of their Fathers" ends with the rebellious people of Jabiim being loaded onto Imperial slave ships - and then the planet being scoured of life.

What about a weapon that breaks down the barriers between this world and the force ghost world? Ghosts invading this plane or, conversely, a weapon that "destroys" the entire galaxy, plunging everyone and everything into the netherworld of the ghosts...

I don't know. Is that what happened in GE? For the life of me, I don't remember what that one was about, or any of the others, for that matter. :)

The whole idea of an EMP weapon would have devastating consequences on Earth, nevermind on a planet that has millions of ships, droids, advanced city facilites, etc. Besides, why destroy a world when you can cripple their means of living?

an EMP of that magnitude would most likely interrupt the brain's electrical signals as well, killing the populace.

    Something like the Malevolence:

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Malevolence

but scaled up from "fleet scale" to "planet scale"

but without entering the "planet killer" levels of the Devastation, another ship in the same design series:

I liked the idea of the Galaxy Gun from the EU Dark Empire II. A weapon that could launch an attack from almost anywhere in the galaxy by firing projectiles with hyperspace capability.

Thinking about the rumours of the ST exploring the grey areas of what's right and wrong; a long range drone attack weapon would be akin to the weapons in today's society and allow film makers to explore the morality of these in the GFFA.

I have absolutely no idea what that means. :D If it is an EU reference, it went right over my head (the only EU I know are the old Marvel comics from when I was a kid.)
