death star plans - so stupid...

The main point about showing the Death Star plans, was not to actually show them, but for Dooku to be handed something real that he could hide and take back to The Emperor, which is the real point that a lot of people missed. Sidious is controlling EVERYTHING, including getting the Sepratists to create the design and begin creating the Death Star.

 

If peeps stop thinking about the prequels as some kind of gimmick and consider it at the first parts of the story, it can be seen that the death star had always been a huge part of the plan for political domination of the galaxy. Having shown it's source early in the series is essential to show the audience that it is the cornerstone of the Emperor's plan.

Also this move in the script serves to make the 2nd death star something that was intended in the story and not some gimmick out of lack of originality.
