I'm working on a story that takes place mostly on a world with some rather virulent anti-Jedi sentiment. What kinds of names would Jediphobics call the Jedi?

I've already used the mild "braid-boy" for "padawan," by boys outside the Temple who aren't precisely anti-Jedi, but are a bit resentful of the padawans.

I'm thinking the words could have something to do with dress styles (the robes), weapons, practices (stoicism, celibacy, etc), anything that the ignorant would think they could deride. What the people on this planet claim to be most scandalized by is the mind trick, and Jedi intrusiveness, but I don't know that those provide automatic slur-names.

    Anyway, ideas?

In Rennati's fic, she had her char call Luke Magic boy constantly. So, anything in that direction....sorry, I'm not much help.

I remember something from The Courtship of Princess Leia: someone called Jedi and Force-users "spoon benders".

Don't know of anything official other than that 'spoon bender' thing, but I would think something to the effect of 'spook' or 'magician.' Remember Owen Lars calling Old Ben (Obi-Wan) 'crazy old wizard?' I figure since Jedi deal with things of the mind and spirit (aka the Force) non-Force users might see them as using magic and the like. Who's to say they'd be wrong?

Hmm, I'd imagine if these people don't believe in the Jedi powers, they might refer to the Knights as tricksters or charlatans.

"You mind-manipulator, you! Saber-swinger! Hand-waver! Yes-master-man (instead of yes-man)! Uh..." *Jane runs out of ideas*

heh heh "Hand-waver!" wow, that would really make me cry :D

It depends on how vulgar and vicious you want these insults to be.

'Mind-raper' could be used, but that's pretty horrible in my opinion.

I actually like "spoon-bender," though it's so tied to Earth psychic experiments that I don't know if it fits in the GFFA. The problem on this particular world is that they believe in everything the Jedi can do, and more, and believe they use it nefariously (think "The Protocols of the Elders of Coruscant").

Good point about Uncle Owen's use of the word "wizard"--it's clearly not complimentary.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

"Protocols of the Elders of Coruscant!!!" Now THAT'S a good one! I like "saber swinger" and "thought thief" best so far.

    Force-freak?
    Eunuch in the tunic?
    Lightsaber loony?

What do you think of these?

    Pajama warriors
    Chancellor's toy boys
    Chancellor's toy soldiers
    or
Glow rod (refers to their lightsabers)

I like. "Eunuch in a tunic" is great -- the "eunuch" charge, I'd bet, would be common.

Well, I used "Force-fart," and a eunuch reference. And I've got to find an occasion to have someone say, "Hey, Glow-rod!"

If anyone's interested, the story is Family Portrait

I think "mind rape" is a good thing for someone to toss out in a serious conversation on the subject (one of the sorts that degenerates into a shouting match). Doesn't roll easily off the tongue as a slur, though. How 'bout "Brain-banger"?

    good one on 'baby-stealer'.
    I like Force-fart [face_laugh]
    how about;
    'light-side loonies'
    'starch pants'
'Force-powered droids' [b/c of their 'stoicness']
'calm to the point of constipation Jinn'
    'bland-boy' for Obi?
'having the Force isn't an excuse for being fasionless' or something along those terms...

    [I'm having a blast with this! 8-}]

    'force-freaks'
'oh look; a leash' on Obi's braid.
    'Jedi junkies' ?
    'half-Jedi' about Obi.
'clones' about all Jedi, attack on their individuality; or lack of it?
    'toy-swords' on their sabres
    'Jinny-boy'
'senate ******' [though that's a really bad one, to perhaps emphasise how 'unscrupleless they are in working for the senate'?]

that's all i can think of at the moment.
    My fav is 'braid-boy' :D

    edit; just in case...

In the vein of 'brain-banger,' how about 'brain-raper' or 'mind-mickier?' I still like the eunuch in a tunic one... Or how about... 'wannabe god' because of their dedication to the Force and their perceived objectivity and refusal to become really involved?

I like "Senate whores," TK -- that works really well in context in the story (Anakin is the padawan in question, and I think his opinion of the behavior of the Jedi and the Senate is not high)!

'having the Force isn't an excuse for being fasionless' or something along those terms...

Heh. There's a Jedi I can even think of saying something along these lines...
