"We have blacks, we have American Indians and even early Mexican Americans who have been living in the country for a long time and have not assimilated to the cultural mainstream as typified by white Americans," Richwine told the panel in 2008, four months before the first African-American president was elected.

Because white folks outnumber any given minority there is sort of a cultural mainstream, I guess, kinda, in a way. But this idea of "assimilation" is just racist crap.

My heart breaks that she is so narrow-minded that she doesn't realize that ignorant and bigoted Bible thumpers are the ones found the dividing, not those who simply want to marry the one they love.

Sure. Why do we even need democracy if Jesus is going around endorsing candidates?

Japanese politician says Sex Slaves are "necessary" for soldiers in times of war

(and Japan wonders why most of East Asia still hates them over WWII)

"I told him there are places that operate within the boundaries of the law which can be used for releasing sexual frustration, so they [the U.S. military] should fully utilize it or the marines won't be able to control their aggressive sexual desires."

This is not the first time this thought has been brought to the public. It shows a basic evil in the world, that men are viewed as rapists to be. Recently there has been a docu about women who have come forward to report rape and in one case the girl was seen by her commanding officer and he dismissed her as an attention getter out for headlines. Houses of il-repute have followed war since there has been war. <--my random thoughts.

    GOP Rep: "Democrats worship abortion".

The article even points out that Democrats were appalled by what that Kermit Gosnell guy did. He's just crazy.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that's because Kermit Gosnell is no better than Dr. Josef Mengele.

I'm sorry, the stories about that guy makes me squeamish.

Pat Robertson's advice to a woman whose husband cheated on her:

    Stop talking about the cheating!
He cheated on you, well, he’s a man.
So what you do is begin to focus on why you married him in the first place, on what he does good.
Does he provide a home for you to live in, does he provide food for you to eat, does he provide clothes for you to wear, is he nice to the children, do you have a happy family, does he take your kids to sporting events, does he go out and watch their Little League games, does he share with you stuff that’s going on
    …is he handsome?
Start focusing on those things and essentially fall in love with him all over again.
"I recommend you reach out and touch him, touch his face—touch his face—hold his hand, look into his eyes, talk to him,
you’re praying oh God, teach me to not hate him when he was with that stripper in that hotel room 10 years ago
and I’ll never forgive him kind of thing please –so what are you focusing on? You’re focusing on the thing that makes you mad.
    Stop that.
Start focusing on the good stuff. He must have something good or you wouldn’t have married him.
"So give him honor instead of worrying about it.
But recognize also, like it or not, males have a tendency to wander a little bit
and what you want to do is make a home so wonderful that he doesn’t want to wander.
Think of the temptations that are out there, the internet is FILLED with pornography,
the magazines are filled with salacious pictures of women
Anywhere you turn around there’s some solicitation to the senses to entice a man.
"What you have to do is say, ‘My husband was captured and I want to get him free.
But reach out and think of the good stuff. Begin to thank God that you have a marriage that is together
and that you live in America
    and good things are happening.”

I was just about to post that. I will say that the wife said she was trying to forgive him for cheating, but his response is that men will be men and they are th eprovider so just do better yourself.

Forgiveness is one thing, staying married to him is something else.

I wonder if ole' Pat would have had the same advice for a husband whose wife had had an affair/one night stand/etc.

    Somehow I doubt it.

so, ignore that his cheating made you unhappy, pat him on the back for all he's accomplished, and take the blame for not working hard enough to keep him faithful.

To be fair, it really is the classic, old school approach to the problem. Bob Hope's 69 year marriage worked so well because he paid his mistresses well to keep quiet, and his wife honored him for it.

Not exactly on the same lines but there's that quote that has floated around from Billy Graham's wife in which she said that she had never thought of separation or divorce in all their years of marriage but had occasionally thought of murder.

Mmmkay. Am I a terrible person for not thinking that's particularly admirable?

Old by a couple of weeks, but still derpy:

NRA Offical: 'Culture War' Not gun rights.

Why is it that when most people want something that makes sense (like expanded background checks for gun buying), somebody on the extreme right pulls the 'culture war' argument?
