Sometime ago some pastors got together and decided to put together a list of the sins most offensive to God according to the Bible. Apparently sex is massively heinous. I don't have a source other than the pastor of a church I sometimes attend said it. I want to say there were 4 total items on the list but I can't remember the rest cos I was making faces. In his defense I do believe him a pious and honest man who really does study not only the Bible but the times in which it was written to give it context.

No word on what version they read, but there has been some calling into question the actual definition of original language words used - ie, the "no laying with a man" verse that homophobes love to quote may be grossly mistranslated. But hey, fear mongering pays off so let's not kill a cash cow right?

 

I think the basic idea is that anything they think you might find more enjoyable than their authority, which they will claim is backed by God, should be removed.

And as far as them repressing people then getting caught themselves, it just adds credibility to the quote: To the common man religion is true, to the Wise it's false, and to the rulers it is useful.

 

Surely you're not suggesting that one type of politically leaning people incorporate religious beliefs into their sociopolitical philosophies are you? I was foolishly under the impression that legislation was based on life in the real world. What a fool I've been.
