Not directly related, but kinda sorta maybe. We have a court case in MN right now with a 17 year old transgendered student who is beginning medical transition without parental consent. She is being treated as an emancipated child medically even though she is not legally emancipated. (I'm surprised there is a doctor willing to risk such action.) The mother is fighting it - she is actually supportive of her child transitioning, but she just wants her to wait until she's 18. Mother and child have a good relationship, just a disagreement over when the medical transition should start. I've been following this young person for a while now, beginning with controversy over school locker rooms.
