I know poor Obi-Wan, he is going to have a difficult time following through with his convictions [face_worried] And some bonds are difficult to break, no matter what has transpired ;) Thanks for reading my paddy Neice! :D

    KOS

Xanatos and Qui-Gon had deep feelings for each other at one time :_| Some things go so wrong. And I think Obi-Wan's losing of his peace is a deep warning for him. :_|

Thanks for reading everyone! [face_love] Hope you enjoy the next chapter, though as I re-read it and I think about the next chapter, I'm thinking I should have a 'Warning: Dark!' sticker on it! :p

    ::Hidden Treasures::

Obi-Wan was soaked from head to toe, but then again so was Xanatos. It was still early evening on Pommeles and Obi-Wan could hear the birds overhead, squawking to each other in warning upon their arrival. And as he sat upon the sandy beach, gazing out at the slow moving waters that twisted its way to the sea, Obi-Wan felt for the first time in ages, that hollow spot within becoming filled.

Swimming was not Obi-Wan's strong suit, but Xanatos had reassured him it wasn't that deep and that usually by this time the creatures that bite had already eaten. But the water was deceptively warm, and as Xanatos dove into the water, Obi-Wan followed, at first, just wading at the shoreline. The water immersed him at first to his ankles and as he dunked his head under, he could feel that part of the Force that had eluded him for so long. As he moved his arms and legs propelling himself within the water, he was at that moment a part of something much larger than himself. Obi-Wan didn't ever want to reach the opposite shore. The water felt so good against his face as little waves splintered into his mouth. The swimming had come back to him as if he had done it every day. But Xanatos was far faster and had already reached the shore by the time he was ready to get out.

As he made his way to the beach, a deep chill struck Obi-Wan as he left the warmth of the encompassing water and the cool evening breeze hit his skin. He shivered and was thankful when Xanatos drew out his waterproof bag, and placed a warm blanket around his shoulders.

Xanatos had said they were going to spend the night here. Obi-Wan sat down in the still warm sand, drew up his legs and traced a pattern into the sand as his new mentor built the shelter. He could hear Xanatos muttering under his breath.

"If only Qui-Gon Jinn could see me now." Xanatos fiddled with a waterproof cloth, and had just changed into dry loose clothing while Obi-Wan sat huddled under a blanket in the fading sun.

Obi-Wan looked questioningly at him and the former Jedi chuckled. "You see, Qui-Gon would never guess that I would ever 'rough' it." Then the thought coursed through Obi-Wan. He is doing this for me... Obi-Wan smiled, his first true smile since coming to this world. He felt at home here, beneath the trees, with the birds calling out around them in the setting sun.

Xanatos had formed a circle with large river stones, and had started a fire with some branches. Obi-Wan instinctively drew near its warmth, watching the flames whip about in new found fury and life.

Gazing at the flames across from him, Xanatos sat quietly, tending the fire with a stick, and appearing to contemplate each spark and wisp of circling smoke before him. Finally he spoke. "You don't have to do this Obi-Wan." He looked at the boy through the crackling fire. "I told you before, this gives me an unfair advantage over you. A Force bond is forever."

Obi-Wan sat quietly, trying to think. "I feel as though this is meant to be, Xan. I can't explain why." Obi-Wan searched for his words. He wanted to tell him about the strange connection through the Force he already felt with Xanatos and the longing he had to show him once again the way of the light. But he couldn't place it into words. Instead, silence passed between them.

Xanatos nodded, and again fell into that contemplat

 I loved this chapter! What a powerful moment for not only those two, but Jinn as well.

It was only then that Obi-Wan realized that it had been a mental whisper. A bond that would never break. Terrified eyes gazed into Xanatos' revealing only the flames surrounding them.

"Do you see now, little one?" This time Xanatos spoke, a bemused smile covering his face. He turned away from Obi-Wan and began once again to tend the fire.

Obi-Wan could only nod. Yes, he could indeed see now.

I hope Obi means he sees that Xan still cares for Jinn and therefore can be brought back. The Darkside was strong though. [face_worried]

    So loving this story. :)

Awww I liked how you have Obi hoping that he can bring Xan back to the Light and even at the cost of doing the bond and the risk of himself falling to the darkness instead.

Uh oh... drugging the Count? [face_worried] So this was what you meant by the PM, eh? :_| Will I need kleenexes? :p

Good to see Thrak's disguise is working :) Let's hope the real Xan doesn't show up. Now that'd be scary reunion!!

Oooh, very nice. I was surprised to learn that Xan still felt such a powerful love for Qui-Gon. But that's good, right? There's still a chance that Obi-Wan will be able to bring him back. I'm very afraid that the brave boy is going to be swallowed by the darkness. It's just so strong, and he's so very young, and has already suffered too much. But the light is bright in him. Bright enough? I hope so. This "forever" bond makes me nervous.

The bit with Qui-Gon was cool, too. Definitely a night of revelations about our Xan. But I appreciate Qui's determination to find the boy. Atta boy, Qui-Gon! Keep your priorities where they ought to be!

Well written. I?m enjoying this story.

You write the details and descriptions very clearly. I like how you blend in characterization, emotions and what the characters are thinking to the themes about the Force.

I liked this section a lot??

Xanatos was reaching out with the Force, and Obi-Wan went willingly to meet him. And as his shields came slowly down, so did the former Jedi's. Obi-Wan could feel the remorse and anger welling up within Xanatos' most inner being. And with that, a power, he had only partly sensed the day he had killed in anger. Obi-Wan gasped.

So strong. Too strong. The Force that welled with power from the emotions he had learned were of the darkness, was incredible. It seemed to take that small place within him that held to the light, that place of wholeness and swallow it up in a tempest of energy. Obi-Wan felt like he was losing his breath, losing his grasp of himself.

And suddenly, he was Xanatos. Betrayed by his own beloved Master. He could feel the searing heat that formed the scar upon his own cheek. The memory that would live forever. And Obi-Wan felt something else too. Complete devotion to the man that had betrayed him. Love for Qui-Gon came pouring out in deep recesses that appeared to be decayed with dust. His breathing became easier, as the light came forth, only to be squelched immediately by the emotions of regret and anger. The power was coming back, the power that was suffocating and terrifying...and incredible.

Incredible power was at Obi-Wan's fingertips, waiting for him, beckoning him. If only he would enter, what could be his. What he could do for the universe.

I liked the way Qui-Gon and Thrak got into the compound.

Obi?s intentions to bonding with Xan are noble. I hope his confidence in the light is enough to save him. Good job showing the darkside power and its blanketing strength. Just when a little light appears it swoops in and stops any hope with tempting and deceiving dreams of helping. I think that help is singular.[face_devil] Obi-Wan can see but I wonder what, a need for the power or a hope for redemption. [face_worried]

Qui-Gon seems a little too late but again I wonder. The force works in mysterious ways. :p Qui entrance to Xan?s home would be a bit unnerving, his past to Xan?s is entwined deeply. With Obi-Wan?s revelation to Xan?s feelings and Qui?s discovery in Xan?s room I have to hope a little for all of them. I?m still a little unsure about Obi and Xan but it is definitely going to be interesting when they all meet up again. I lean toward Xan but much as I love the dark I don?t hope that for them. ;)

I was just looking at my notes, and only one or two more posts left. But o_e and Master Noi have inspired me to do another Obi/Xan, of course at a different age and different circumstances. And I've been working on it. [face_batting]

Kyn Paddy Sis! [:D] Yes, tissues might be good. [face_worried] Thank you so much for reading and ummm....oh....:_|

May Oh, yes, the darkness can have a stranglehold. Let's hope little Obi-Wan doesn't get swallowed up by it. [face_worried] But Obi-Wan is a bright light [face_love]

KOS Thanks for reading, my co-writer [:D] I always appreciate your encouragement :)

Katana [face_laugh] Back, back I say! *gets out a large stick* I will hit you if you come near them, Qui-Gon

Oh, someone after my own heart [face_love] Had to put down my coffee for that response :D

Altaira [face_love] Oh, its so good to see you!

blanketing strength Love that description. [face_love] Qui and Xanatos themselves don't understand how deeply intertwined they truly are.

*Takes a deep breath* Alright, here we go.... [face_batting]

    ::A Fatal Mistake::

Qui-Gon took one more look at the room that had drawn him inexorably inside and away from his mission. One thought moved through him, Xanatos had kept the little trinket from so long ago. Ages ago, when he had expressed affection for his young Padawan.

Reluctantly, Qui-Gon turned and left the room, expecting to see Thrak but instead only saw an empty corridor with light teasing in from the upper windows. Where did the changeling go? He shook his head as he tried to figure out where to go next. Thrak was definitely a loose cannon in all this, unpredictable and unreadable.

Feeling a strong call through the Force, he followed the corridor to the place of the call. A desperate call. But it was not the call of the young boy, or his wayward former Padawan. It was a call of pain, fear and uncertainty. Certainly it could not be the one whose singular Force presence called out to him with insistency. He felt a sense of urgency as he moved towards the call.

The smell of rancid imprisonment cells came to him long before he arrived. In the darkness, Qui-Gon knew what he would find, though he could not, would not, acknowledge it consciously. "Master?" Qui-Gon whispered. But there was no response.

He saw the still form lying on the ground. Qui-Gon's heart stopped. He was too late. Too late, once again. The prison door was blasted open. The guard that had escorted Thrak and himself moments before, lay dead and bleeding beside Dooku.

Qui-Gon knelt down and cradled his Master's lifeless head. "Master," he said quietly, trying to awaken the thin Force bond they once shared.

"Qui," came a soft and feeble voice, far from the deep commanding voice Qui was accustomed to from childhood.

Qui stroked his hair. "It's alright, I'm here." He tried to give the reassurance he did not feel.

Dooku reached up for his face with unseeing eyes. "My Padawan." He managed a smile even as blood escaped his lips. "I've done a lot of things I'm ashamed of..."

    "There's no need..."

"No, Qui, there is. But I've always cared for you. You must believe that." Dooku's voice faltered as Qui-Gon stroked his hair.

"There is no need," Qui-Gon repeated. "I have always known."

    "Xanatos..." Dooku whispered.

Qui-Gon looked down at him. "It was another who did this to you, my Master."

A look of surprise crossed Dooku's features. "W-who?"

The blood was too much, surrounding his hand, even as Qui-Gon applied more pressure on the chest wound. "It was the changeling."

Dooku tried to rise but his life-force was fading too fast. "Thrak....I should have known." His voice rose with anger. "He'll try to go after Xanatos next." Dooku reached up for Qui-Gon's tunic. "Listen to me..."

    "I'm listening," Qui-Gon said gently.

"Qui..." Dooku tried again. "Life is too short for regrets. I regret I never reclaimed you in my life...until it was too late. Do not make the same mistake with Xanatos." His voice became just a quiet breath, and Qui-Gon had to lean in close to make out the words. "Thrak's very nature and instinct is to kill, he will leave no one behind in his revenge for his family. Not even you in the end. He hates our species and what we have done to him."

Qui-Gon shook his head. "He has a family. I don't believe he would kill so indiscriminately." But Qui-Gon frowned, what did he really know of Thrak?

"Believe me, my Padawan." The words slipped out and Qui-Gon knew his former Master was remembering a happier time, a simpler time. Dooku tried to focus his eyes as he tried to get breath to speak. "His family is gone, destroyed. He wants nothing more than revenge. I tried to control him, to use his darkness for my own purposes, but it was my undoing."

Dooku coughed as more dark blood came from his mouth. "Remember me, my Padawan."

"I will Master." Qui-Gon once again ran his fingers down his former Master's hair, easing him through the transition th

    *blinks*

A Fatal Mistake, that?s an understatement. At least Qui-Gon made some peace with Dooku and showed him kindness at his end. I hope he heeds his dying advice. We have Jinn bringing Thrak, Dooku dying, Thrak/Qui dying and Obi... *eep* plenty of deadly mistakes in that one.

Obi still had me worried with his growing acceptance of the dark power. It is coming easy to him. :( I loved him protecting Xan and not being able to harm Qui. But now you have me hanging over the dark cliffie Obi just passed into.

Okay, I missed a post somehow. Yay - more Xan and Obi from you. I am quickly becoming obsessed with Xanatos. [face_love]

The scene with Obi-Wan and Xanatos forming a bond was quite dark - so much going on in Xan's mind and soul.

Okay, about the latest post. That was an evil, evil cliffie. To show that Obi-Wan was willing to sacrifice himself rather than kill. I wonder how powerful that will be with Xan or whether he will just be consumed with anger. And please say they can do something for Obi-Wan. [face_praying]
