As this has as much to do with Rey, the map, Lor San Tekka, and Luke's potential involvement in all three, I wasn't sure a pre-existing character thread would suffice. I'll let the Mods be the judge of that of course but I think it would get buried in the MVS thread. Anyway, onto the questions...

    1) Do you think Luke entrusted Lor San Tekka with not only a map fragment to the first Jedi Temple but also for him to keep an eye on Rey? Coinicidence/destiny are intertwined within Star Wars but it's interesting that a man who knew Ben Solo before he was Kylo Ren, and who viewed Leia as Royalty, also happens to live so close to Rey. Is it possible Luke asked him to act almost in the "Old Ben" role for Rey? We know that he has helped Luke in the past through the new EU visual dictionary. Isn't it possible his pure heart was trusted by Luke and that's how he came upon the final fragment? Why would the visual dictionary go through the trouble of pointing that out if it had no value? Perhaps Luke didn't want the two pieces being anywhere near each other but in places he trusted (R2 and this man) so that if he ever changed his mind or wanted that info shared he could explain there whereabouts?

    2) If the above is true, is it then Lor San Tekka essentially making the decision to override Luke's original instructions because of all of the info that has been shared by Poe via Leia and his new understanding of the threat that the Dark Side poses? Is that why he states, "This will begin to make things right." The line sounded like a man convincing himself that what he had been doing (holding this info for decades) is no longer the right thing to do given the situation. It sounded like a man with guilt happy to finally be rid of it and convincing himself that too much Darkness has crept in and that Luke needs to step back out of the shadows and rebuild the Jedi once more. Perhaps he's even wondering if Luke may have passed on and is simply giving the whereabouts because he feels that his family of all people deserve to have some resolution and some answers after so many years of searching.

    3) If Rey was under his supervision (but at a careful distance) by design we don't have many clues to go on. He doesn't attempt to protect her or mention her obviously to Poe as somebody that requires protection with the First Order looming. Maybe he felt she was far enough away to avoid being caught up in the mess? Wasn't there an early draft of Rey bringing the lightsaber to him? Or was that all just wild rumor with no merit? Wasn't there some original art shared with Rey bringing artififacts to him? Or was that morphed into the place where Rey lines up for rations?

Show the Lor San Tekka thread some love. This discussion is a great fit for it.
