That's just not true, Luke wasn't trusted in TESB as being rightly deemed not ready and Luke wasn't even a jedi when going to the final confrontation, where Ole Ben was advising him he must destroy Vader, Luke saying he can't KILL his own father hearing that then Sidious has already won. If he had actually killed Anakin, rather than killing Vader, Sidious would have won in that Luke probably would be Sith material. Sidious was certain that Luke would turn himself in and that Vader would turn him over to him, but he did say only together could he be turned, so not such a sure bet after all as he was relying on Vader who ultimately let him down. What Sidious was really confident about was himself and his visions, he didn't know Luke would turn but he thought if he didn't then Luke would be killed by him and Vader.

Obi got a lot wrong, right to the end when it came to Anakin, although it was probably in there just to keep the suspense also as i think the OT was alot more utilitarian than the prequel. I'm not saying it's all Obi's fault, ala Anakin, but the material he had to work with wasn't all bad and an more experienced Obi of the OT would have been able to build on Anakin's jedi characteristics more.

In all three OT films, Obi-wan believes that Luke can become a Jedi and destroy the Sith. Yoda has doubts about Luke, but his doubts are laid to rest in ROTJ, because Luke did not turn on Bespin. That is why he tells Luke that if he is to become a Jedi, he must confront his father. Obi-wan confirms this. Both Jedi state that he must face his father to become a Jedi and Ben says that he cannot escape his destiny, which is to face his father. Palpatine tells Luke that it is his destiny to take his father's place at his side. So Luke has two separate groups telling Luke where his destiny lies. But it came down to Luke. He had to choose which path he would take. Thus his future is in motion.

Both Jedi Masters and the Dark Lord were wrong about Anakin being able to come back from the dark side. But the Jedi were right, Anakin has to die.
