Did Obi-Wan know that he would find Chewbacca at Mos Eisley?

Obi-Wan is the first one to mention the name of Chewbacca, and he seems to be familiar with him enough to communicate what he needs when he meets him in ANH.

Could it be Obi-Wan had met him before and Chewie knew of Jedi from past experience?

 

Ben didn't know who Chewie was in ANH. BoShek introduced Ben to Chewie. It's even there for you to see.
In the EU, the story is that Ben asks BoSkek for the flight but BoShek was too busy so BoShek introduces Ben to Chewie.
Even if you don't follow the EU, it's pretty obvious from the movie that BoShek introduces Ben with Chewie.
I guess Lucas did this to make the movie more realistic. It would have looked fake if the first pilot Ben walked up to was able to take Ben and company off planet.

 

I'll buy that, even though you're lucky that I like EU.

I don't know about that. The way Kenobi says to Luke. "Chewbacca here" like chewie is an old friend or person he's known about.

 

It is confirmed that Obi-Wan and Chewbacca did NOT know eachother before their meeting in the cantina...

I also thought it would be cool if they did...

 

I always thought there was some familiarity between the two of them. but I also got the sense that Han never met Obi.

 

I never thought about this but when I read your post, Obi-wan line to Luke hit me. something like
"Some of the best star pilots have been found here"
I believe he said HAVE, as in someone has meet a pilot there before.
hummm?

 

Ben seemed to know his way round Mos Eisley, especially where to find the best star pilots around the "seedy" bars, perchance Ben had met Chewie before? It's known that Yoda and Chewie have known each other since the Kashyyyk battles in Episode III so it seems logical Ben would try to find Chewie as he knew it could lead to him then finding an experienced pilot A.K.A Han Solo
