Did Palpatine Set up Padme with Anakin?

Think about it. Why did he want Kenobi protecting Padme? Why did he look after the well being of Padme so much. And in the Eu, during the clone wars, I think he sets up a mission that brings the two together. Perhaps Padme too, was a tool in Palpatine's plan for the fall of Anakin.

If so it would be ironic, since the fruit of that union (Luke) brings about the Emperor's downfall.

I love dramatic irony too, and that's why the ROTS ending irks me. It would've been much more ironic if Padmé'd died directly as a consequence of the force choke, none of that losing the will to live stuff which made her seem weak.

If Palps did set them up, that would be great dramatic irony though!

I don't believe this is one of them.

Palpatine probably did pick up on the fact there was something there in Anakin regarding her, and set up their reunion in AOTC with the specific hope of creating confrontation between Anakin and the Jedi, thus tightening his own grip and position in Anakin's life.
