Did Yoda HAVE to lose his lightsaber?

    After he fell off of the Chancellors center pod in ROTS, his lightsaber fell to the ground just before he fell. I found this to be unecessary and even then, why not just use the Force to call it back to you?

    He couldn't call it back to him because he was using all his strength trying to block Palpatine's force lightning. After he fell he had no strength left.
