Disbanding of the senate.

It would have been interesting to see the scene where the Emperor dissolves the senate.

I know it's discussed briefly in "A New Hope", but I wonder if many Senate leaders were killed in the disbanding, or arrested?

 

Maybe like a Saddam Hussein sort of thing, what he did when he took power.

 

I think the Royal Guards and the Emperor walked in told everyone to go home. The ones that didn't want to leave were probably roughed up.

 

Or he did like Hitler and burned the building down, except instead of blaming the communists, he blammed the rebels.

 

DARTH_CONFEDERATE: Yes, perhaps. Did Hussein kill every member of his cabinet, or just a select few whom he didn't particularly like?

 

However many he wanted, and guess what happened. He got absolute controll of Iraq.

 

maybe that scene could be added to the ANH dvd if it ever comes out, hahaha

 

Actually that scene will be added along with a Bail Organa scene right before Alderaan is destroyed in the DVD.

 

I'm surprised he needed to disband it at all, it's like it still had some significance or power... if it did then he wouldn't have been able to disband it so easy. (Think Ancient Roman Imperial Senate)

 

It probably didn't take much to dispand the Senate. The Empire was anti-alien, so by the time of ANH all the worlds in the galaxy would have been represented by Imperial governers like Tarkin in the Senate. They would get their orders streight from the Emperor to dispand and they would do so without question.
