I have no problem withholding children's movies from children. I just feel a responsibility to shield them from ****ty movies. Being a parent is a profound responsibility.

Edit: You don't know me well enough to know that my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek. But it is. :p

You're not withholding the movie from them. You're sparing them from the movie.

And that Machete Order is absolutely incredible. I really kind of want to do that now.

It's just really strange to realize that people are posting here that were seven when TPM came out. Of course, I was only seventeen. Feels weird to think about that too. It just honestly doesn't seem like that long ago. Vagaries of time, etc.

A friend and I have a deal that we're going to do an annual Machete Order Star Wars marathon in this fashion. I think this could be an awesome tradition!

I think it's weird that it's been 8 years since ROTS came out. Eight years after ROTJ is when Heir to the Empire came out.

    Amazing.

Insecurity... it can be a difficult concept.

But what did you think of the sequel? Canon?

The Hangover Part II doesn't exist. Actually, any sequel made to the decent but not great by any means original, does not exist.
Oh and that goes for any sequel that was made after the original Shrek.

Oh and Conan the Destroyer doesn't exist. Why they made a crap sequel to a really awesome movie is beyond me.

Almost 14 years since I and many others had the misfortune of seeing TPM for the first time. Not really a long stretch of time by any means but personally it feels like decades.

I was going to say Highlander or the Matrix but those are already taken. To me Alien 3 and everything that followed does not exist. Oh yeah, same goes for Spiderman 3.

People always seem to discount Superman 3 and 4, but I'm going to be the hipster and say that until I have seen the Richard Donner cut, I'm discounting 2 as well.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm the only person in the universe that actually likes Highlander 2. Rub it in why don't you?

^The scene with Connery choosing his new clothes is actually pretty enjoyable, but apart from that I find it unwatchable. Better than the later sequels you understand, but still not good at all.

The Donner cut is quite good, so long as you bypass the resolution.

Hint: Once Lois gives Supes a tearful goodbye on the balcony, chapter skip straight to the end Diner sequence.

In the case of sequels or any movie I don't like, I just figure I didn't like it and move on. No need to dwell on it. It's only in the really nagging cases that I'll switch to "Girl in Lover's Lane" mode and mentally re-edit the thing. And I'll stress that it's a fictional movie, not fact, and not get twisted up.

I just wish I could discount bad reality from canon.

There's no godawful Richard Lester slapstick in the Donner cut is there? I hated HATED his Three Musketeers movies with a passion, and the slapstick that was used in Superman II was completely unnecessary.

I agree, he seemed to have a "This is a comic book movie, well it should be funny!" mentality when he made those scenes, sorta like how the Burton/Schumacher Batman movies used that excuse in making Gotham City look like some kind of neon-lit day-glo nightmare, and not an actual metropolitan city that could exist in real life.

To be fair, Burton's Gotham was over-the-top too.

I liked the original Batman quite a bit, but Batman Returns has such a hilariously stupid climax that damages the rest of the movie.
