JCC Discussion Time: Let's Talk About Drafts - next draft?

Going back into "Mad Hatter of Drafts" mode for a moment here, I was thinking about a way to do a quick mini-draft.

Here's what I came up with

I call it the "Eliminator"

Comic Book (or whatever medium we want to use - but it seems Comic Books have the most interest)
7 GMs, 2 Judges + Commish
Team Drafting like with the current draft (PM the list, no matches = yours, match = no one gets him)
12 Characters
Rather than doing full "team" battles ...

For the first round, everyone picks one one "champion" from their team to face each of the other GMs
Judges (+Commish) judge the winners.
The champions that win go back to their teams, champions that lose are out of the game.

(i.e., DeePee says "Storm vs. BaSSiL, Superman vs. heels, Iron Man vs. cubby, Gladiator vs. RX, Wonder Woman vs. Punk, Despero vs. yak"

Storm, Superman, Iron Man, and Wonder Woman all win, so they return to DeePee's team. Despero loses to Batman and Gladiator loses to Aunt May, so they are out of the game, and DeePee now only has 10 champions to choose from)

We repeat the second round the same as the first and all additional rounds until at least one GM has less than six characters remaining.
From there, the Commish has to figure out who sends a champion against whom so that everyone sending a champion has a champion to go against.
We repeat this until only one team has a champion remaining.

Upsides:
Should be quicker
A new wrinkle
Different strategies

Downsides:
No Trumping
No Team Cohesion

Possible "Prep" strategy:

Everyone starts with one "prep" to use, and it will "refill" once everyone has used that prep

(i.e. - let's say the GMs are heels, cubby, yak, Punk, DeePee, Rx, and BaSSil. In the first round, cubby, BaSSiL, RX, and DeePee use prep. In the second round, only yak, heels, and Punk will have prep available to them. In that round, yak and heels use prep, so in the third round, only Punk will have prep available as an option to use. If he doesn't use it, he'll retain that option as the only GM who can use it until he does. If he does use it, then starting in the next round, everyone can use prep again)

(Could possibly due the same thing with trumps)

Thoughts?

 

I'd much prefer it if I could pit Superman against heels directly, but I'd be up for this too...

 

Sounds exciting. I like it.

 

I would love a draft that's basically "Steve Rogers Level" or lower.

Street level fictional (movie/tv/gaming) characters?

MCU Black Widow vs. John Wick
Jack Sparrow vs. James Bond
MCU Captain America vs. Arrow’s Deathstroke

 

So, basically, I'd modify it to this:

And I would advocate using the Prep and Trump strategy as sketched.

 

I really think street level is too low but do you.

 

Whatever cap it is, it needs to be a REALLY hard cap. Like, if it does end up being Street Level, then we maybe take a character, like, say, Spider-Man who's considered Street by some but can take way higher foes... And we just say anyone who stands a good chance against him is banned.
He may be a bad example bc true street levelers have beaten or come close to beating him, but that type of idea.

 

And then there’s characters who have street level strength but extra abilities, like Geralt and Ciri from The Witcher. Are they considered street level? We could go slightly above street level to include characters with powers.

 

I just need to know what the exact cap is so I know how to Rules Lawyer my drafting...

 

Veto all characters for dp4m that are higher level than Aunt May.
