JCC Discussion Time: Let's Talk About Drafts - next draft?

Oh... Oh my... I am decidedly disgusted with the new New Mutants arc, specifically with what has happened to one Nate Grey, losing all his power. Just give it up, Marvel. You won't get as bad as DC, even though you're trying very hard.

In honor of C M Punk being amazing, and to get one of Durrons (at least) 3 titles off his waist, I propose a 2nd wrestling draft.

You're lame. I need a comics break. What if we just discuss rules changes on different drafts for awhile, if Vid games and wrestling haven't done anything for anyone?

Animated list needs a major overhaul. Pokemon rules do, and team battles in general.

I had a very long list of suggestions, cuts, additions, and team reorganizations...which I lost when my last computer died. I'll see about rethinking up a few of them and posting them tomorrow.

 

So here's something I was thinking about. What if we did a fantasy draft of like comics, ongoing series', etc... But instead of battles and judging, we tracked it more like a stock market, and based it on how the characters were doing "IRL." As in, if Wolverine won a fight, his stock would go up, and by how much would depend on who he fought. Or perhaps public opinion (in comics) of him goes up, or he gains influence, or whatever. We could have several categories... Maybe Fights, Influence, Relevance...

So a team could look like this:

etc.

And so yeah, maybe they all start out at 0 and move up or down depending on what happens to them. Then at the end of, iono, 6 months, who knows, we declare a winner by who has the most "money" or to prevent people from just bowing out when they know they're not gonna win, we have playoffs where the top however many ppl can draft X more guys and go for another 3 months or whatever. Or maybe have 4 months of reg season, 2 months of playoffs. I know it'd require some subjectivity still, but it would be more of a "real" fantasy feel. And maybe people could come in while the months are still going on (though they might have a hard time catching up with the good teams).
Plus this makes your favorite characters relevant, since, fighting power really has pretty little to do with it as opposed to what happens to the char from start on out. The only thing we'd really have to discuss is if a particular battle victory or prestige increase or whatever (think... Drafting Norman Osbourne during the Secret Invasion) would be worth.

 

So, animated draft. Here's what I've got so far, off the top of my head: update FMA to Brotherhood, reshuffle the teams accordingly. Drop mechs? I know we've discussed it before, but I still think it's worth a shot sometime. Remove guys like Kizaru, too, who we don't know how to harm yet. I had a bunch of team ideas to shrink the Naruto section considerably (plus, they're not all that great individually), but recent arcs may be upping the power level to a point where that may not be such a good idea after all. To save space, maybe trim all the non-Espada Arrancar from Bleach (and Luppi): the creator's going through another bout of character creation again, so we'll eventually need more room there. Add: maybe some of the more recent action series? Regios, Lost Canvas (too powerful, maybe?), Fairy Tail (just typing that pun pains me...)? HxH is getting a remake, too, which might offer a good opportunity to add it to the list (and gives me some hope that some of those great old action series might finally get the treatment they deserve).

Still working on an actual overhauled list, but that's what I've got for now. I'll post up more when it's closer to being done.

I can't really add anything because I'm not hugely familiar with a lot of series here, which is how I let a few god tier beings slip into the drafts I ran, but thinking along those lines, perhaps you should think about cutting anyone who does not have a clearly defined upper limit. People who have never been pushed to their limit can make judging pretty difficult.

 

Good idea. Dropping the representation for series down to the core characters has been helping with that, and the nice thing about all these dedicated battle series is that everybody tends to lose to somebody at some point.

 

So ... who's up for another round of the pro wrestling draft?

 

At this point I'm up for anything, but it seems we just can't muster enough support.
