JCC Discussion Time: Let's Talk About Drafts - next draft?

Yeah. Mini. 8 people with GMs doubling as judges might be the best way to go.

 

Probably a mini, unfortunately. But GM judges... Haven't worked well here in the past...

 

Yeah, not inclined to try that particular experiment again.

 

I'm not a huge fan of it either, but can you see us finding 11 able and willing participants?

 

I'll be out of the country for pretty much the entire year so you will have to count me out.

 

If we can't get 11 people, we don't deserve to have a draft.

I want to say I can get 1 or 2 who haven't done it before. If BaSSiL is still around which I don't know, he could as well. That'd be 2-3 that weren't here last draft.

Then I could judge. I'm in a judging mood, largely because comics is the easiest thing to judge. And, you know, I've done everything there is to do in the sport.

Maybe Zizz is still around?

I wonder if we can get the draft done before we 'move'. They announced it like 3 years ago but we still haven't, so that's pretty cool.

 

Yeah, it didn't seem to work very well.

It's worth a try to recruit some people from other forums. Or old players who haven't been around in a while, if anyone has contact info.

 

I'd be down for a good old C&G draft.

I'm good for comics. Not my first choice, but if it's good to go and can fix the itch, let's do it.


And, I suppose, if absolutely no body else is willing I can volunteer to run the darned thing. I'd prefer not to, but I certainly can.

Don't have time to comment right now, but I do have time to bump it to the top of the list.

I would say this offhand: Let's take the rings off Mongul and Cyborg Supes, they're top top tier without them. I can't recall the number they had last time, but it's take it down to 0.

What're we doing with Lanterns? Now Sinestro is a GL. I propose keeping him yellow for the draft, even though it seems DC is serious about this.

I would propose 2 Lanterns per color but that's ALOT of lanterns. No one cares about Indigo so I wouldn't use it. Blue is hard and that's excuse enough for me to not use it. Atrocitus is still the only red of note, but that's poised to change possibly before we get to the draft. Larfleeze is still too powerful, so I'd say no orange. And let's be honest, no one cares about a Arkillo. Is there a Sinestro Corps member anyone cares about? I'd say no. Fatality has a history, so that could justify 2 Star Sapphires but... It's only those 2. Not much choice, I'd just say have a pick 1 there as well.

Here's an idea. 2 GL picks, 1 red, 1 Sinestro, 1 Star Sapphire, and then 1 that's just any Lantern outside of orange for some spice. That's 6, and I'm all for making room for that by cutting down on Superman knockoffs.

 

Here's my thought:

Keep it ****ing simple. No need to worry about all the different colors and limiting colors and all that. Let's just keep it simple. The most popular Lanterns of any color? yes. The ones we just want to have a different color? Why? It might help with, you know, participation and getting new players if they look at the list, field a somewhat competitive (not gonna win it all, but not gonna get laughed out) team without having to worry about not knowing who someone is.

That list is mega-intimidating for someone who doesn't follow comics that closely. Especially for an 8 person draft, there must be some characters on there that are never going to get drafted.

 

Why can't there ever be a draft where we can take multiple green lanterns? That'd be sweet, you could have a team consisting of Hal, Kyle and Guy conceivably. But I'll participate in this for sure.
