JCC Discussion Time: Let's Talk About Drafts - next draft?

So someone somewhere suggested a salary cap in the NBA draft. While I'm not a fan of that idea... What if we did it here? Then those popular but weak picks could actually be... Picked?

 

But we're not signing free agents; the salary cap's to prevent teams like the Lakers from signing Lebron, Kobe, Dwight Howard all to the same team.

I don't see how that same concept works in a draft system unless I'm missing something.

 

Basically another thing in my obsession with being able to functionally draft bottom-tier guys.

 

Have an affinity for cellar dwellers do we?

Hey, Booster Gold is actually good.

 

I mean. At this point, I feel like if you want to draft those people you have to just do it and give up hopes for a championship. They're just not competitive unless you put some kind of restriction on the list, and then some people are disappointed because they wanted to see someone from the powerful end on it.

As soon as I get those names, I'm ready to go. Just waiting on the Admins now, unless I happen to be able to find another post somewhere that has them not cut off. I'll look tonight.

 

What if you cut the list into two?

Have an upper tier, pick 5 from there. Then have a lower tier, pick 5 from there. Play 4 from each tier, bench 1 from each tier.The 4 upper tier characters from each team fight each other, and the 4 lower tier characters from each team fight each other.

There wouldn't seem to be a need to change any of the other rules.

If there is a tie all 10 picks from each team go to battle.

That seems to make lower picks a viable option in a draft because they still contribute to the overall team effort, but aren't being put up against people they have no chance against in a fight. MandaloreYak makes a great point about some great characters being on the list that really aren't viable against the upper 1/3 of the list in regards to power.

 

That would take some retooling of the list. Hm.

Of course we first need that part of the list which was considered not powerful enough.

 

Okay, I was able to gather some of the team lists, but I'm not sure at what point the X-men list was cut off(or the Titans list, which is a little weird). Changing the New X-men to the regular X-men list as well; there are, of course, more mutants than are on this list, if you don't see one you like just remind me and I'll see about adding them. Are we missing any other teams that anyone can remember?

I gotta run really fast but I'll keep digging. I'm pretty sure that was it. I'm going to keep all of those guys open for discussion as blue on the list. Still need to retool some of the team lists. Otherwise this should be pretty close to how we roll.

 

Since I was bored I just went and put a few people in blue that would be considered in the upper half of the power levels, really rough draft. The hardest part seems to be finding where a cut off would be. There are a lot of people that should be in the upper half if they have preparation time, but really do need it to be considered on that level.

I really like the idea of tiers for the reason of being able to utilize lower power people, but splitting the list is harder than I thought it would be.

I'm going to go ahead and work on the opening post and get it up tonight, because I'm not going to be able to do that this week. Continue to discuss the list if you want, since that won't be finalized until everyone has signed up anyway, but right now I'm not going to segregate it; if we want a free-for-all, we'll have a free-for-all. For now the last list I posted is what I'll be using. If you see someone you want on there that's not on there just be sure to say something before the last person signs up for the game and I'll get them on it(or not, depending).

EDIT: Looks like Nightwing and Starfire got left off the list somehow, so I've added them back(pretty sure they were a team pick, so I'm leaving them like that unless anyone has any objections--I don't think they were on teen titans.

How about movies and television?

 

I would rather see movies and television than animated. I can play an animated, but won't know what I am doing.

 

Animated needs serious help with regards to the list, the sources, and the rules. MTV would be easier, but it still needs some updating.
