I'm sure some of you have caught the news that Disney has acquired LucasFilm and are planning a new series of films every few years with the first one planned to come out in 2015. Press Release: http://theforce.net/latestnews/story/Disney_Buying_Lucasfilm_Plans_New_Star_Wars_Film_148646.asp More official news: http://theforce.net/latestnews/story/SWcom_Posts_About_Disney_Acquisition_148648.asp How do you feel about this new future of Star Wars?
They are sitting down with writers to work out the stories... Where would they film? It would be great if they do return to Australia to film but with how our economy is stronger than theirs at the moment, I'm not sure if they will.
It is still early stages. What we know about the upcoming film: Release date is some time 2015... possibly May if they stick to tradition. Kathleen Kennedy is involved (For those that don't know her, she has been involved in almost all of Steven Spielberg productions and also co-produced the Bourne films and several others) George Lucas has his notebook and is working with a few writers regarding the stories. There isn't any real spoiler news at this point in time but when it does come to that... we'll return to the highlight to read/spoiler policy that we had with the Prequel Trilogy
This goes back to GL's original plans for a 9-12 episode story and this news marks the start of a new era for Star Wars. I am excited mixed with several other feelings... it's a lot to sink in but I'm looking forward to seeing how things turn out.
The way I see it, this could go two ways..... 1) This is the best thing that could ever happen to Star Wars. Uncle George has always maintained that HE will not be making any more Star Wars films after EP3. Under his guidance, new writers/directors/producers could take the franchise and saga interstellar (* bad pun - cough *) 2) We could end up with more like Phantom Menance or Clone Wars. Visually stunning, good (ish) but lacking the same "heart and substance" as the original trilogy had. I'm hoping for 1)
Norrad_Roff, if it does go along the path of The Clone Wars series then that is a very good thing. They work very closely with George and the series has a high production value and feels more connected to the Original Trilogy and plenty of influences by Ralph McQuarrie's artworks. It has come a looong way since Season 1 when they were just finding their feet. YouAgain, we've added a bit of Xenoforo to the polish
I too was completely into Clone Wars until they jumped the shark with bringing back Darth Maul. IMO it started taking a dark turn toward being EU. Why can't dead characters just stay dead...... I still stand by what I said. Visually stunning etc etc...
I wasn't too happy about Darth Maul returning at first but I'm willing to see what they have planned for him. From what I've seen, that Onderon arc in Season 5 is really well done. That's unfortunate, I guess the locations featured in the treatment might dictate where some of the location shoots might be held... if they do decide to do location filming instead of sound stages. It's also too soon to find out about directors but I would love to see what Spielberg can do.
Well.. they have confirmed the writer (or at least one of them) and now the media thinks they know who the director is: J.J. Abrams. So far no official word is out and this all feels like what happened a few weeks ago regarding Matthew Vaughn. On other news, Drew Struzan had been approached to produce the poster work for the new films. Whether he accepts or not, time will tell but it be great to see more art from him.
I'm so excited for this. I can't believe I have to wait for 2 years before the movie comes out! Going to be torture. Looks like the original cast will be returning and I'm SO excited.
Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly, they are still deep in preproduction at the moment. To tide us over we do have The Clone Wars.
