ST Disney drops Lucas' ideas!

This kind of changes things a lot. I can't imagine that many fans will be thrilled at this... And from Lucas' own mouth, to boot!

Can't they just make both films? ..and the one Arndt wrote aswell....and one based off of Lucas' ideas in the 80's! Just have multiple timelines going. After waiting so damn long after ROTS I don't feel like I could ever have too much Star Wars

It doesn't bother me in the least that Lucas' ideas weren't used. George set the foundation, now it's time for someone else to take the reins. No offense, but I think George lost sight of what Star Wars is really about. The fans know his creation better than he does.

 

I'd say this is the biggest news so far about the new trilogy. It's official - it's not based on George Lucas's outlines/ideas/treatment!



My guess is - and this was mentioned by Lucas at the time of the sale - he has a Star Wars type rule book - things that must appear or mustn't change, such as no conventional looking cars in the films, stuff like that, that must stick to the SW universe - but the plots are all new. In a way this could work to Lucas' advantage. If TFA is disliked by many, well, George can say

 

I kinda suspected this was the case all along when Arndt was turfed and Abrams brought in.
