I would rather see Pirates of the Kessel Run. "Have ye not heard of the Black Pearl love?" "Why is the blue milk always gone?"
As I said on Lit, I am going to wait and see, since we still know virtually nothing about all of the implications of this development.
I wouldn't be too sure about continuity being ruined, or at least it being bad. George Lucas isn't directing it. Remember the last time a Star Wars movie was made without George Lucas in the director's chair? That was Empire Strikes Back. It's gonna be fine, especially considering Disney owned Marvel at the time The Avengers was made.
Real life made me slow to learn this news. I'm very concerned. We have nothing but unkonwns right now. I hope that the IC 2 rumors are true, and assuming that they are true, I hope this doesn't change anything to do with that.
George Lucas is still involved as creative consultant, and we all know what he thinks of post-ROTJ: Boba's really dead, Luke never marries, etc.
I hope that whatever is done is done with the graphics of the Old Republic and the Force Unleashed II game trailers. As it is I am a total mix of emotions. Hope, desperation, cynicism, etc. And hopefully they won't take George's advice too seriously then with the EU.
Surely there is Disney fanfic about, I've seen a category on fanfic.net. Also, my former flatmate was writing some and posting around... I wonder what will happen to the live-action TV series plan...
There will probably end up being a couple new shows on the Disney channel. Kid stuff of course. The movies will probably be big budget, family friendly affairs. Much like the recent crop of Marvel movies they may in fact be pretty good. The thing is though there still going to be big budget, safe, merchandise generating films. The fun and creativity that exists in the original trilogy and alot of the books and games will be gone. What we'll have is movies like Pirates of the Caribbean or the Avengers. Fun movies for sure, but not truly great movies.Just manufactured commercial summer films. That said the new one will definitely be better than the prequels but not by too much. I wish someone would make a truly gritty TV series based on the Darth Bane books on HBO or somewhere directors and writers are still allowed to be creative. That would be awesome. As long as Disney doesn't shut down all the great fan films out there I wont complain.
I am going to be optimistic about this until given a reason to not be. So far Disney has done very well with Marvel, I see no reason to panic about this.
I don't see a reason to panic either. I mean, even if it sucks (highly doubtful) we can stick with the good stuff.
